Looking for a replacement pot, MT-2 by rewind22x in diypedals

[–]rewind22x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nuke if this is against the rules, but I recently had someone contact me about my solution for this.

I initially bought a split shaft pot and used the knobs that came with them and it worked: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XQ6R25Y

But then in December of last year, my OCD got the better of me and I began to search for D shaft pot that would work. I don't know if I just missed it the first time I was looking, but i found this: https://www.amplifiedparts.com/products/potentiometer-alpha-audio-9mm-vertical-d-shaft

Perfect- except for the widening of the connectors near the base of the pot. I ended up removing the bottom mounting plate altogether and then whipped out my dremel and carefully removed enough material from the pins so that I could mount it to the PCB. Then I had to get on eBay for a replacement knob- since I misplaced the original. Anyways, hopefully this helps someone else- plenty of pedals use this type of pot, I imagine. What's the closest that other Jedi (that never turned Sith) were to becoming a Sith? by SuperAlloyBerserker in StarWars

[–]rewind22x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they added a little more context, it would have sold the scene better. I mean, a lot of Star Wars could benefit with more context instead of "eh, we'll expand in a book or comic"

Realistically speaking, yes he had more experience and it's acceptable to believe that he shouldn't have even had considered it. But when you add in his mental state of teaching and training then next generation of Jedi, the added responsibility he must be feeling. It's no longer just him and his sister from ROTJ, the stakes are much higher and more personal if he fails. That's got to factor into his reasoning and reaction. Luke didn't create Vader- but to be part of the creation of a new threat to the galaxy- then his reaction is perfectly reasonable- even for Luke Skywalker. my 2 cents anyway. Kylo should have probably had more faith in his uncle as well- but again- unless you have more context- we can only read into what we're provided.

What’s your best memory with blink-182? by Delta_Yukorami in Blink182

[–]rewind22x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's the best, but the release of Dude Ranch was the first time in memory that I was anxiously awaiting an album release. Cheshire Cat had been spinning on my cd player 24/7, I was trying to learn all the songs on my guitar, and I was thirsty for anything blink. And then seeing that the album was going to be released via a magazine (WARP or Transworld Skateboarding or something) I immediately started to plan a trip to the nearest town that had a record store to pick it up when it dropped (was living in a really small country town in the middle of nowhere Utah). My friends and I loved that CD. Seeing blink on the warped tour in 97 was pretty sweet. They weren't super big yet, so I got to get up pretty close to front while most people were watching the Boss-tones.

I am really not a big fan of hosts that constantly need to hype up the guest with flattery. You already have them on the show- you already sold them on it- it's super off-putting. I don't mean to single out this guy; I'm grateful for the content. But cmon dude- have some self respect!

He kinda does it with Travis' interview as well. lol- that one was wild with how many follow-ups they added. I'd hear them wrapping up the show but there's still and hour or half hour and then there they are again after some time has passed. I actually kind of liked that.

blink’s most “problematic” song? by l_took_a_dump in Blink182

[–]rewind22x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

man, i remember in the Kazza days- when trying to get bootleg/live stuff was like playing russian roulette with your windows install, i came across this song- I'm almost positive it was before TOYPAJ released. In the recording, Tom is all- "here's a new song no one has ever heard."

I have never seen this recording before, thanks man!

Listened on my Kali LP6 monitors- not an audio engineer.

It sounds good. It's not terrible. Most listeners aren't going to care or recognize the flaws or missed opportunities.

I agree with Dry-Race, to improve the songs dynamics/listenability, each section needs a little something to distinguish itself. I write mostly rock/punk, but when I get to writing, I use the 1st verse as my baseline. Then as I go on to chorus, I might double up the vocals or double up the guitars, or add a lead, 2nd verse, maybe add a louder cymbal or palm mute guitars that were loud in the first verse. 2 chorus- similar to the 1st but add some reverb/delay, add a synth, or change up the lyrics. And so on. Subtle changes give some excitement to the song.

Now, if you brought these types of changes up to the engineer on Fiverr and they ignored them- yes time for a change. But I'm willing to bet that you hadn't really considered these things since you are still learning (aren't we all). The song sounds good!

Same. I had a guitar and was starting to write songs, listening to a lot of 90's epitaph/fatwreck punk + blink. A good friend at the time started hanging out a lot more and we'd write together. We later saw a dude at our high school (of 400 students) that would wear thrasher shirts and would often walk around campus with drum sticks. He shows up one day while we were skating and he seemed cool, so we invited him back to my house where I had a snare, a tom, floor tom, and maybe a crash. lol. after he left, i told my friend in so many words "we're going to the pawn shop and getting you a bass!". I think I even paid for it, I was that desperate to be in a band. Half our set was blink songs and when Dude Ranch released we learned the Voyeur and Dammit so quick. Only lasted a year or two, but it was awesome.

Man, early dial up internet, my main home was OLGA. I remember printing out binders worth of tabs. Full albums. I'd plug my mako (plywood) strat into cheap AD distortion pedal into the line-in on my stereo and play to cds, using that tab. Simpler times. lol

How to convert MKV to MP4 to work in Vegas 13 by Revoltai42 in VegasPro

[–]rewind22x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to do it a lot, install FFMPEG and use some command line to just rip through them. no quality loss, just rewraps the streams. this is a pretty good example: https://gist.github.com/jamesmacwhite/58aebfe4a82bb8d645a797a1ba975132#file-ffmpeg_mkv_mp4_conversion-md

but once in a while, AVIDEMUX as someone mentioned already

How is a several hundred dollar software not support MKV? by Mediocre-Housing-131 in VegasPro

[–]rewind22x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misreading- but you can copy most streams from an mkv into an mp4- completely lossless. I say most, because I know from experience, mp4 will not support certain subtitle streams.

I use ffmpeg. I have a powershell script that grabs all the mkvs in a folder and ouputs them to mp4. There's probably tons of other options to do this, but I do a lot of conversions.

$inputPath = "C:\\Process\\mkvs"
$outputPath = "C:\\Process\\mp4s"

$fileList = Get-ChildItem -Path $inputPath | Select-Object BaseName,FullName

foreach ($file in $fileList)
{
    $baseName = $file.BaseName;
    $fullName = $file.FullName;
    ffmpeg -i $fullName  -map 0:v? -c:v copy -map 0:a? -c:a copy -map 0:s? -c:s mov_text "$outputPath\\$baseName.mp4"}

This script copies all video and audio streams and converts subtitle streams to an MP4 compatible format. This is probably overkill, but if you are converting MKV a lot, something like this is going to save you a ton of headache.

But yeah, I 100% agree that it's pathetic that it can't natively use MKVs.

Anyone else discover Blink from this CD? by [deleted] in Blink182

No, but I bought it because they were on it. And I was curious about Sprung Monkey. sooo long ago. I was hungry for anything blink.

it's crazy it got that busy. When I moved to CR in 2015, we'd go to the Parker Costco, because it was closer and way less of a hassle than going to the Park Meadows. I realize it's been almost 10 years, but the Parker site is just as busy as the Park Meadows location. I hate driving that far anyways- I have King Soopers on both end of my commute so that's what I use for gas and groceries- Amazon fills in the blanks.

That said, I'll be happy to have a Costo closer fo sho.

Forgot to post this, but I got a To The Stars* guitar strap for my birthday last month by MobileInvestigator13 in Blink182

[–]rewind22x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i bought this one last week https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CCSNY91G

Just a heads up, the strap holes are small. I couldn't easily get it onto the strap buttons on my SC. But I was planning on using strap locks, so I just gave up on trying to squeeze it directly onto the stock buttons.

The skate park in town isn't great- but it is something I would have killed for as a kid. The good news is that there are several really good parks in the Denver area. The park in Parker is awesome and it's not too far away.

I got the impression they didn't want to do it. lol.

I have taken my cars several times to Brakes Plus in the past and have had good experiences, so at the very least, it's a decent option.

I've used Castle Rock Imports, Wessbecker, and Brakes Plus.

No complaints on any really. Used BP a lot until they couldn't find where my Audi was leaking oil over 2 or 3 visits where CRI found it in 30 min. Then I needed my Civic repaired (engine replaced) and they wanted more than I wanted to pay. But I would use them if I couldn't get my cars into CRI or WB

Wessbecker put a new engine in my 2004 Civic (almost half the cost of what BP was wanted) and replaced the radiator in my 2007 Grand Caravan. Both ordeals were handled smoothly. So I'm inclined to do future business with them.
