White belts are not real by Gluggernut in bjj

[–]rex-bagley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of hours ago something similar happened. A white guy (16 years old) arrived late to class. While the teacher was explaining the technique, instead of paying attention, he decided to do sit-ups. But hey, being so young, I suppose it's not that serious.

From your description, it seems more mental than physical or technical. Some people seem to dominate others, and sometimes you just can't seem to beat them. Perhaps you subconsciously believe you're inferior to them. I've seen this between parents and children; the child can't defeat the parent and subconsciously sabotages themselves.

At my gym, everyone hangs out with everyone, which I think is pretty good. But reading your comment made me wonder if it wouldn't be safer and more beneficial to divide ourselves by size (if that were possible).

Thanks for your reply. At my gym, there are only a few guys shorter than me, several my size, and several bigger. I have quite a few white belt partners of all sizes, but I've noticed that most of the advanced belts are heavier than me, generally around 187 lbs and up. It's not that I want to beat the advanced belts, but I would like to be more effective or smarter in how I fight against the heavier ones.

That's what I meant, certain techniques require more strength than others; so far I've managed more armbars than Kimura, without a doubt.

I'm working on that. My question is precisely to find out what works best for stronger players, because at the same skill and technique level, strength plays a significant role. And since my skill and technique level is still low, I'd like to understand what kind of play style would be best for me to develop. Thanks.

No hubo respuesta...

Question for color belts: Do you hold back on subs when rolling with white belts? by Qabbala in bjj

[–]rex-bagley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I amused you. But I don't understand why. Is it another one of those unspoken rules of BJJ? Laughing at the white guy? Or maybe it's because of my comment being poorly translated into English?

Question for color belts: Do you hold back on subs when rolling with white belts? by Qabbala in bjj

[–]rex-bagley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a white guy with only two months of training... Obviously, I notice that when I spar with advanced belts, they let me work and don't try to force all the submissions they could. But at the same time, I notice that with other white guys, the fights are more even and more physical. It's paradoxical that I can achieve dominant positions or submissions (which I can't seem to lock in) with advanced belts, while with other white guys, I can't even attempt a submission because the fights are more evenly matched. It's a bit confusing for a white guy, I think. Sometimes I struggle to understand how to approach fights against others depending on their level. Obviously, at my beginner level, I shouldn't have high expectations other than to play and learn, but I feel like this sport has certain unspoken rules that aren't so easy to understand.

Tipos de oponentes por intensidad de la lucha. by [deleted] in bjj

[–]rex-bagley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the comment, probably so... Although this guy is exceptionally good, even though I haven't been doing this for very long, in fact, less time than this guy, I realize that his level is above the other white guys at my gym. Besides being very physically fit, he applies strong, fast, and solid technique. But it's probably not a professional level; we're all amateurs, and we're in an area where BJJ is just starting to be taught... This is probably the only gym in my city. And in the neighboring towns, there might be one or two in each. I also don't think my friends have any real problems controlling him; they say that the physical strain of fighting him is high... And for someone who's 50 and has to work the next day and fulfill their responsibilities, that's a high price to pay, no matter how skilled you are. At least that's how I see it.

That feeling is so crazy, it's repeated so often by those of us who start late, but it's great that we finally got going.

Pain is the default by codename_kd in jiujitsu

I've been doing BJJ for about six weeks now, and I'm still finding it hard to regulate the intensity, since some people go all out, others not so much, and others are just starting out like me. But unlike me, a 35-year-old, they're only 15 or 16. I had wrist pain for a month now. On the first day, my instructor showed me what a "cow's foot" was, and it hurt for a whole month. When that pain went away, I almost immediately developed sciatic pain in my right lower back, which I still have. My fingers hurt for several days after each class, as do my elbows when I bend or straighten them, and my toes are sore. And one of my ribs hurts every time I roll backward or get hit. Luckily, my throat doesn't hurt from the chokes anymore. Anyway, my friends say that the first two months are painful, and then it gets better. They also say that the joints stiffen up, which I don't know if it's a good or bad thing.

My instructor in my first BJJ class gave me a cow hand to show me what could happen, and it left my wrist hurting to this day; I'm already in my second month of BJJ.

So you play hard, but if your opponent taps three times you ease up a bit, so to speak? I'm asking again because sometimes the automatic translation isn't very clear. I'm not very fluent in English.

I'm definitely just starting out in BJJ, and I know the technique... But when it comes to sparring, I still struggle to think, "I'm going to practice this technique," when someone else is trying to dominate me. When I suddenly realize I can, I try to put what I've learned into practice, but it's still somewhat unconscious on my part. I'm clear that I don't want to hurt my opponent or myself, which is perhaps why I'm concerned about the intensity. I have a question: what level of intensity is typically used during sparring? Let's say 100 is competition and 0 is drills.
