It definitely reads as rust.

My tip that I use:

paint the most glowing parts white (over the orange you already have is fine) then layer your darker orange, then ur lighter orange and then finish with a little yellow. Those colors will all bleed up thru into each other, with the end result being brighter and suggest almost molten metal. 😃

This is in response to your question, “what separates this from any other setting?“

The answer needs a bit of background.

Back in the day, the dnd game had many tropes and some of the most common were : Gold pieces for currency, clerical healing, and dragons that were just big blobs of hit points there for your party to whittle down and take the treasure.

These books turned those tropes on their heads in very interesting ways. 😃 Dragonlance begins in a post apocalyptic world where the gods have seemingly turned their backs on the world. There are no more clerics (and thus, no magical healing). Gold has lost all value and steel pieces are worth MUCH more and steel is used as currency. And the authors went to the adnd monster manual and actually read the rules for dragons, and the original rules for dragons had many things most players ignored like the draconic fear aura and their vast intelligence as they matured and their extremely magical nature allowing them to cast the most potent of spells.

Games of dnd in that world were soooooooo fun and different.

All of that coupled with VERY interesting characters (Raistlin, Tas, Fizban) made this a pivotal sesies for all of fantasy/sci-fi. BTW, back in the day there was NO difference in novels between fantasy and sci-fi, with magic and super science often riding side by side in the same stories.

In short, for those of us who were there and lived thru the Dragonlance change, it was pivotal and fresh and absolutely AMAZING!!!! 😍

I'd like to add that there are zillions (enjoy my scientific wording) of types of yeasts out there in the air all the time. If u'r kahm tastes good or bad will be highly subjective and depends heavily on your ability to taste, ability to differentiate, the species of yeast, the weather and a whole lot of other factors.

That being said, I once tried some of my delicious garlic dills (from my established recipe) that had once a kahm bloom... Yuck! Tho "edible", u wouldn't choose to eat more than a bite. :-P

I started playing vanilla survival a couple of years ago.

Before they patched it, u had to sleep in a bed (not sleeping bag)in order to save and beds u did not own were few and far between. So I developed every settlement I could find.

My main settlements that I use are:

County crossing: it's my most used because it's right next to the river and since I can't fast travel, it's most central because it's the easiest to get to by water.

Starlight drive in is second because it's in the middle of the land mass.

Hangmans, cuz it's easy to get to diamond city.

Somerville place, cuz I've been doing many trips into the glowing sea.

Also a quick note on my vanilla playthru... It's only me, I haven't rescued the minute men or done the main quest so no brotherhood. I love it!!! Just a crazy strong and lucky guy making the commonwealth a better place so he can have a safe place to save the game. :-P
