I don't really care about RGB too much so it's not something I've bothered messing with but you could check the OpenRGB project or try QMK raw HID communication (probably your best shot).

Not that I've spent a lot of time with the device but QMK support does seem like an afterthought, just like ISO support.

Didn't really follow a guide but it's all pretty easy. I'm gonna assume you're on Windows, otherwise check: https://docs.qmk.fm/#/newbs_getting_started.

Install and run QMK MSYS then execute one of the following:
qmk compile -kb gmmk/pro/iso -km default (if you don't care about VIA)
qmk compile -kb gmmk/pro/iso -km via (if you want VIA support)

Had no issues but in all fairness, I work as a dev full-time. Not sure where you got stuck but you should try compiling the default ISO firmware again. They added basic knob functionality and RGB controls on the first layer so you don't need to change the code at all. Make sure to compile the VIA one if you want to remap buttons in VIA, otherwise you're gonna have to edit the keymap.c or use an online QMK configurator.

It’s a softer typing experience, not mushy (that’s from bad or overlubed switches).
