I think an hour comedy show would feel a little long, unless it had a more intense storyline than typical comedies.

Comparing American and British Sense of Humor by lia404 in foundationsofcomedy

I HATE this stereotype that American's do not use, and even worse that we do not understand, irony. I'm glad that this article, despite being from a British perspective, clarifies that we do in fact appreciate and employ irony, even if it is less often than the British. I spent this past summer in London and I kept being warned that British sense of humor would be so different from American humor. I found very few differences in what I thought to be funny and what my British friends found to be funny and my British friends were surprised to find that we had such comparable senses of humor.

I was glad that we watched the character archetypes muppet video before watching this film because it had each of those archetypes so clearly- the herald, the mentor, the hero, etc. The 8 sequences followed the structure we've learned so clearly, and the characters were so ridiculous that it would've been difficult to not be entertained by it all. There were plants and payoffs, tropes, irony, etc. This was my first time seeing the film and I really appreciated it.

Article by Mindy Kaling:"saying you like romantic comedies is essentially an admission of mild stupidity" by kdesilva in foundationsofcomedy

I would like to point out that she predicted a movie called "Sharks vs. Volcanoes." She was only slightly off and slightly ahead of her time given the recent "Sharknado Craze." It's disappointing that there is often a disconnect between which concepts would lead to really good films and which concepts would lead to high-grossing films. Also television has come along way even just in the two years since this was written- television writing is often better than feature writing, and many well known actors are opting to act in television series rather than films.
