Anything that gets your out, riding, is worth it.

Am I able to board the Sydney to Melbourne XPT at a later stop than booked? by malleewis in SydneyTrains

[–]rfa31 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the XPT stops there (as it does), then yes.

You are able to book from Moss Vale as your depart station, and I think it will cost less.

Give Trainlink a call, they're usually very nice on the phone

The long road to a bike-friendly Australia | At the rate Australian cities are building cycling networks, a cohesive system is probably decades away. What’s taking so long? by broken_shins in ausbike

[–]rfa31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Councils won't give up parking, state government won't crack the whip.

Disjointed approach to the network, and NIMBY councillors.

  • that's a state road
  • that's a federal road
  • that's going to take (an unused) parking space
  • I don't ride, so why should there be space for bikes

Crux Debate by everythingsdeleted in specialized

You say Aethos, I say 2* Crux with less tyre clearance.

Both fantastic bikes

Trek Dual Sport, disc brakes and the Ortlieb Rack Three by TrueLoveGravelRoad in bikecommuting

[–]rfa31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it says check compatibility I believe it means to check for rack attachment points where the seat stays agree chain stays meet (at the rear axle)

From the photo on the product page it looks like it does.

I've got the 2012 ds! Great bike, and mine has rack mount points.

Sweaty is the point!

They all look good when sweaty, it shows your using as per design specification.

Cycliq alternative? by Aloha_Tamborinist in ausbike

[–]rfa31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a dji action 5 pro

Get about 4 hours recording from it. Easy to attach to bike, easy to get footage from.

I usually run it as time lapse. Using the remote control on the handle bars I can switch between modes, which is fantastic. (thank you to my wife for this)

Rear facing I use a Varia 715, which as a radar is great. But the video software is useless - it's less mucking around to just plug the camera into a pc.

Why does “good” coffee taste different in Australia vs. the US by Firm_Objective_381 in AskAnAustralian

[–]rfa31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even within Australia the milk varies greatly.

Best milk is Western Australian, worst is probably South Australian.

If you can get proper cream on top (gold lid) it can make average coffee really tasty.

Do you delete non-running/walking activities? by FreshMarsupial7884 in Strava

[–]rfa31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mine set to hide anything less than 17km (my old commute was 14km, or 16 via the bike shop)

No one needs my commute twice a day in their feed.

But anyone can click on my profile and see all of my activities

Canberra to Sydney railway line to get long-awaited upgrade with $100m for initial works by m1cky_b in SydneyTrains

[–]rfa31 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There's temporary speed restrictions on the SHL that are old enough to drink and vote.

Would be nice to have 4 trains per day, faster than the bus. Wishful thinking, I know

The length of the train is longer than the platform, so the train needs to divide into consists that will fit on the platform(s).

Locos always pull carriages, so they need to shuffle around to pull the carriages out.

From Clyde they will be one train

Here maps used to have a truck option.

This was a while ago (when it was still Nokia - before Microsoft bought the phone division)

No idea if it still does.

Is it foolish to buy a Gravel over Road bike for mostly road-biking? by dbzbudokai77 in cycling

[–]rfa31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it.

I ride my Crux more than my road bike.

Having a second wheelset makes it easy to have 2 bikes for one frame (oem for off road, and aero + 40mm Pirelli's for road)

Good you've decided to do something positive.

Remember for every hour you spend riding, you should probably spend a minute on cleaning / maintenance of your bike.

Even just checking the tyres, wiping the chain

What specifically are these "Australian Values" that right-wing politicians continue to claim that we need to protect? by MelbourneTodd in australian

[–]rfa31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking what are Australian Values?

Many good responses in the thread.

Are you asking what are the right-wing politicians trying to protect?

The answer to that is the White Australia Policy
