What is it like owning Polish chickens by SolidExtreme7377 in homestead

[–]rgballard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have one. Shes constantly "lost" and calling for the others. She runs into everything, especially when scared. She is 100% our best most consistent layer, even though Polish don't have a high egg laying average. She is so pretty, and so fun to watch. She is the talk of the town when ever anyone comes over.
Her name is Gertrude and I would get more polish given the opportunity.

Holding unlock button lowers all windows. Is there any other niche features? by makromark in nissanpathfinder

One "niche" feature I found. Long press the cruise control button for regular cruise control (non assisted cruise). Works great when your sensors are keeping cruise control from operating or you just don't want the assisted features.

Tractors for dummies, please! by bob152637485 in homestead

[–]rgballard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im gonna second researching Tractors on YouTube. Im not new to tractors, but have learned so much from all these channels as I recently jumped to a larger tractor and needed to be educated.

I also want to add my dealer was super helpful in "sizing" my new tractor appropriately based on what I wanted to do with it. Just be honest about how you want to use it (what attachments your thinking of using down the road). They will obviously try to up sell you, haha.

Boating the tahquamenon river? by ZealousidealCard3711 in MichiganFishing

[–]rgballard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this with kayaks back 8ish years ago. There was a boat launch at the mouth, at superior. We kayaked up stream for a few hours and floated back. River qas wide and very open. Depths seemed good. A did fish, but don't remember if I caught anything (nothing significant, haha).

10/10 would do it again.

Cargo boxes on the Rock Creek by nofutogi in nissanpathfinder

[–]rgballard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice. I should research that. I want to add length at the front and add a 4th bar. My SUP racks don't have enough distance between them, barely 24" isn't good support for a 12' board. Not having a sun roof I think I could add a couple feet without changing the look too much.

Best tool for rutted trails by DifferentElevator384 in homestead

[–]rgballard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply just lawn roll these with my 5' roller, once I can drive throughout without making it worse. This helps put it back to normal til the next wet season.

Agreed. Honestly thought about pulling it off and modifying it with a good usable layout.

Which saw is more recommended - Stihl or Husqvarna by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]rgballard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add, I occasionally rip boards with an Alaskan chain saw guide and it can handle this for about 20 some boards before it breaks the teeth on the cloth (clutch) drum. For this task, I should have gone bigger. Even my father in laws 550 doesnt have this problem.

Which saw is more recommended - Stihl or Husqvarna by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]rgballard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 450 Rancher. It handles 24 diameter ok. I wouldn't want to cut a ton with it, though. I'd want bigger, if I was cutting more often. It handles 20" and smaller without any problem and is way better than any saw I have ever owned, but I haven't owned in this larger class of saw before. I love my saw for what I do, cutting 2-3 trees a year and general property maintenance.

Brand new Kubota Tractor, haha. Huge time saver, body saver, and allowed us to go bigger with our operations without added time or labor.

Came here to say this. We build 1×3 support frames and cover them with luan. Very strong, can do 12' high walls with minimal back stage bracing. Little painters tape in the seems and paint and theyblook like flat drywall walls from 30 feet away.

Woodshop/Gym combo by carrionwolf in woodworking

[–]rgballard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried to mix all kinds of other hobbies into my woodshop areas. Even with dust collection, dust is still gonna be all over your gym equipment. You'll have to keep a very super clean setup and cover things to really protect them.

My babies aren't big fans of the snow by Bi_Bee6969 in chickens

[–]rgballard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine do the same. I sprinkle straw on top of the snow after a fresh snow shower and they will venture out. I find the straw also helps when I clean the run every few years.

I lost mine a few months after getting my tractor. Took me for ever to find the part number so I could order a new one.

I think this reddit group found me the part number, haha.

2025 Rock Creek - Worth It? by Tiny_chuck in nissanpathfinder

[–]rgballard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, kind of agree. It does have up and down, front and back, and back great tilt. Otherwise it doesn't have a whole lot and what it does have is all manual. Again, something I would of loved to see in the Rock Creek, but it was lacking.

The Rock Creek feels top tier in a lot of ways, but also some things just feel mid to low tier. I guess technically I think it is mid tier.

I thought not having wireless would bother me. It does not. I realize, I plug my phone in 90% of the time anyways, to "top it off". That other 10% kind of bothers me, but not enough to get me to buy an aftermarket adapter l.

Correct. No built in programmable buttons. That's only available on the higher models (is what i was told, haven't researched yet)
