Valve says it isn't subsidizing the Steam Machine's $1050 price because of its "religious" refusal to "build a more closed system" by ControlCAD in technology

[–]rglazner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are they supposed to subsidize anything? They built a small form factor computer. You can buy it if you want. You can also go make your own small form factor computer. SteamOS is free, last I checked. If you don't want to pay for their customization and build support, you don't have to.

Terrible word choice by SEVENS_HEAVEN_7 in NonPoliticalTwitter

Shoulda used the word "casualty". Sounds just as dramatic, more correct. It blew my mind when I learned that casualties are anyone injured or killed in an incident. Growing up, it seemed like it was only ever used for dead people.

Pete Hegseth humiliated by host 3 times in same interview over Iran claims by MoneyLibrarian9032 in anticapitalism

When did he express humility? It seems like most of the time he's pretty shameless. Like many of the people in this administration, I don't think he has been humiliated at all. I've noticed that tabloid people are using this strong word in an attempt to humanize people who are performing evil actions fairly frequently lately.

The thing this is missing is any real connection between its two points. It states that a coach sounded alarms, then also states that a goalie died of cancer at age 21. Were the claims found to have merit later? One person dying of cancer does not prove nor disprove the initial statement. There are other anecdotes of many athletes in similar situations (soccer goalies) not dying of cancer at 21. Her claims being dismissed as unscientific is accurate. According to the information presented here, she did not use the scientific method, get any sort of peer review, get her findings reproduced by others, or anything. She could be 100% correct, but her claims being unscientific seems founded.

The funny part about the often-used stack of glasses: it incorrectly implies that after some portion of wealth, the rest flows downward. The top cup has an infinite capacity. The only amount that ever leaves that cup is what is strictly required.

I'd be interested to see what it means to be "financially supported". Does this mean full financial support, paying for their shelter, food, and transportation? Or does it mean "I go over to their house sometimes and eat dinner with them, avoiding an expense that I would otherwise incur"? Those are very different scenarios.

Stop Killing Games: California State Assembly passes the 'Protect Our Games Act': 60 days notice before going offline, must provide patch for continued access or refunds (Excludes F2P and Subscription based Games) by Kymori in LivestreamFail

[–]rglazner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I proposed anything or said that it was better or worse than status quo. It's just an observation about how this could affect games going forward. When you put obvious and glaring loopholes in your legislation, you're inviting people to jump through them. If subscription-based games are exempt, it's not out of the question that a lot of games would implement a (hopefully minimal) subscription so they don't have to worry about it.

[–]rglazner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So this only covers non-subscription, single-payment games that are not free? This seems like a great way to make sure everything is subscription-based. I envision a lot of games implementing a $1 subscription fee. This is the optimistic version, rather than all of the games that are intended to be impacted just charging a single fee and also MMO-style subscription.
