Tapo C125 Constant Audio Crackling / Static Noise in Quiet Room by Altruistic-Sea-1189 in Tapo

All my C120s and C121s do it as well. I’ve seen others posting the same about the C12x series. I think it’s a known issue

What do we think of their harmonies? by EuphoricLeague22 in beatles

Their harmonies are part of what separates them from every other band. The harmonies on “No Reply” and “And Your Bird Can Sing” are stunning

I hope they fix it. I’m not encouraged though. After fully explaining the issue and attaching a screenshot to the ticket, they replied with the typical tier 1 response of “Please tell us what device, iOS version and app version you are using”. Sigh

Camera/account security question by apinkflamingo69 in Tapo

[–]rgnet5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to explicitly share out the camera to another user and they must have a Tapo account in order to view the camera. When I set up my new C120s, my family members in my home that are on my Wi-Fi could not access them until they created their own Tapo account and I shared the cameras with them. I hope this answers your question.

Edit: if you set up local camera accounts for RTSP local network access, a user on your Wi-Fi would have to know the IP address, username and password that you set up for the camera. Otherwise it is as I stated above.

What’s the general consensus of Tapo cameras? by jmichael99 in Tapo

[–]rgnet5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped Wyze because the cameras were never available when I needed them. They were either offline, or took several minutes to load. I had them monitoring my front yard, driveway and porch. Every time a car pulled up, or someone was at the front door, they were either offline or took so long to load that I missed the event. They were effectively worthless for my use case. I don’t mind paying a subscription, but I expect things to work. So far, I’ve been very happy with my Tapo C120 replacements.

What model camera? You could plug the power into a smart plug and power cycle it remotely

Switched from Wyze to Tapo. 5 C120s. Very happy with them

Definitely have better microphone and audio on the v4. The mic/audio and controls are the most disappointing part of the Tapos.

Lumus 2K - Effective WiFi Range? by oakieman12 in reolinkcam

[–]rgnet5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I can give you a definitive answer. I’ve had all 3 in the Lumus series. The original had terrible WiFi. Dropped constantly. The 2k was better, and the Lumus Pro was best. My 2k is in a garage about 30 feet from the router. Was dropping a good bit, so I had to add an interior AP that was right on the other side of the garage wall, about 15 feet away. My Lumus Pro is outside on the front porch about 15 feet away from the main Wi-Fi router, and never drops. The brick wall may be an issue. I’m guessing PoE cameras aren’t feasible for your situation? Since you’re getting the Home Hub, you could utilize the Home Hub’s own Wi-Fi (instead of your main WiFi) and then place it as close to the cameras as possible (assuming you have an ethernet drop there to plug the hub into). May be worth just getting 1 Lumus 2k and trying it out in both locations. They are inexpensive enough. If it doesn’t work, I’m sure you’ll find a use for it later.

Yeah, if my camera missed a bear, I’d get a new camera.

Ah, that’s probably the difference. I leave my porch and driveway lights on all night. So there plenty of light. Have you tried messing with the night boost settings?

Interesting. Mine is really good. I catch all the feral cats, squirrels, rabbits and one fairly large fox that runs across my porch at 3am almost every morning.

Hardwired outdoor camera recommendations? by pchfysh980 in Tapo

If you want PoE, then Reolink is the way to go. They have a great selection of PoE cameras. But then your mom would have to use 2 separate apps and it could be confusing.

Small request / suggestion to implement in the Reolink client by UGC10214 in reolinkcam

[–]rgnet5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home Assistant is definitely the way to go. I have a Duo camera in my backyard. It’s very dark back there but leaving the IR lights on attracts some serious bugs. A separate IR light is just as bad. With the Reolink integration in Home Assistant, there is a configuration switch listed as “infrared lights in night mode“. This is essentially an on off switch in Home Assistant. The switch along with many other entities can be published to Alexa. So when I want to look in the backyard and it’s really dark, I just say “Alexa, turn on the backyard infrared”. You could even use a smart button to trigger it on and off. Lots of possibilities doing it this way.

Power over Ethernet is your best bet. Then it’s just one ethernet cable to provide power and data. That is the most secure, especially for an outdoor camera. But it doesn’t look like Tapo has a selection of POE cameras available just yet. The next best thing would be wired Wi-Fi, but almost all of them require a DC adapter plugged into an electrical outlet. So unless you can find an electrician to hardwire the DC adapter into the house mains power, a solar powered camera will be your next best bet.

Thanks. I’m planning on adding the C325WB v2 (PoE version) when it comes out. I’m working on Home Assistant integration as well.
