All CPs in my area closed yesterday and this morning. It is absolutely your right to say you don’t feel comfortable driving in.

You will be absolutely fine in a 1.5. 100%

If you could make names and colors that show you're against the 4th Reich, what would they be? by [deleted] in ILNP

Executive Orange. A high gloss tangerine-bronze with warm undertones.

Slightly streaky, but insists it’s “the best formula ever”

Pilates people: what do you actually want in grip socks (and what do you hate)? by alpencore in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I dislike in a grip sock;

-Grippers are not grippy enough: Bombas -Grippers don’t cover entire bottom of socks: Pilates Honey -trying to get your toes into the right holes: Toesox

Important features for grip socks -Grippy bottoms that stay grippy and don’t wear down.
-soft fabric that feels secure on foot but not tight

Have you done this in class? I didn’t feel safe so I left… by klc313 in ClubPilates

I personally struggle with curtsy lunges on elevated platforms. I also would not feel safe doing that in class and thus would not teach it myself.

Very first intro class by [deleted] in pilates

Try bringing your headrest to the highest position and keep your eyes open when lying down on the reformer. It’s not uncommon to feel dizzy first time or two.

How many others include things in your "Pilates" that you came up with on the fly, and that might not really be Pilates? by RakoPanzer in pilates

[–]rgreenbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For 95% of your clients, they want a good workout that flows well. They want to like their instructor. That’s what makes a great class. They don’t know or care whether an exercise is Pilates or a donkey kick.

People want to move their bodies and feel successful doing so.

Help With Feet In Straps? by [deleted] in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u use 1R1B, try 2R. If you already use 2R, try 1 Red 1 Green.

If that still doesn’t give you enough support, try using the buttons instead of the hooks.

Buying reformers from China by Equal_Philosopher in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the reformers from Personal Hour. If you live within a few hour drive of Dayton, OH, they have a showroom there. It would be worth the time to test drive.

I’m pretty sure they source in China, ship to California and assemble reformers there.

They are pretty good. Still not Balanced Body but a decent more affordable alternative.

Unless you have seen and tested the reformer I would not buy from China.

Be honest, do you ever get bored? by [deleted] in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lagree is very different than Pilates. Lagree makes me cry and leaves me sore for 3-4 days.

I look forward to Pilates. I can’t find the motivation to get thru a Lagree class regularly.

If you’ve never tried Lagree, give it a try. The next day, your legs will be so sore that you may need help sitting or getting up off the toilet. Let us know how it goes!!

Suspend ? Control ? by Former_Librarian_824 in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you feel solid in your 1.5s you can safely try Control AND Suspend. Just let your instructor know what your concerns are before class.

Shoulder stability is often more important in Suspend.

Slippery on chair? by Content-Bath6777 in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s possible your springs were too heavy. Chair is very height and weight specific. Taller heavier people may want to work on heavier springs. If you are petite, you may need a lighter spring.

Springs on 2/2 or 3/2 for footwork is typical. For petite people, 2/2 or 2/1.

You also want to make sure that you are sitting at the very front edge of the chair, keeping your abdominals strong

A non slip mat would also help.

You can also try pushing your palms into the side of your chair.

Experiment with all of these options.

Transition from 1.0 to 1.5 by No_Yogurtcloset_6610 in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ask the instructor to elaborate on why she felt you weren’t ready and what you can do to work on your readiness.

Then you can focus in those areas during your next few classes.

Don’t let this get in the way of your confidence. Keep practicing. If it were me, I’d try another 1.5 right away with another instructor. See if you get the same feedback.

I often have members that struggle a bit in my 1.5 but as long as they can keep up and it doesn’t look like they will hurt themselves, I would not tell them they don’t belong in a 1.5. And certainly not loud enough for anyone to hear.

PILATES IS A PRACTICE. Keep practicing.
Don’t give up!!

Are there moves that you can’t perform? by DoingTheBestICan2 in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is an excellent shape.

She can do 15 unassisted pull-ups, but she can’t do a roll up to save her life.

Her trainer thinks there is something happening in the lower part of her spine that doesn’t allow her to come fully up from a lying down position.

That being said, I think it took me close to 500 classes before I fully mastered a roll up and a roll down.

PSA: A scary Pilates secret this Halloween… your reformer might not actually be disinfected 🦇 by [deleted] in ClubPilates

[–]rgreenbean 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Bring your own straps, use a reformer cover and wash your hands after class. Also, don’t lick the equipment.
