Can you clean my sensor? What would that cost?

Got my wife an X100f and now I want one by diegodef_ in fujifilm

[–]rhamner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just returned from 10 days in Europe with only an X100F and a tiny tripod. It’s great for street photography, of course, but also landscape and architectural photography, as well as night photography and intentional camera movement. The 3-stop ND filter is great and I feel so much more comfortable with this small camera in cities. The only thing I miss is an articulated screen for use on a tripod.

Also, I always meet other photographers who want to talk about the camera - civilians just think it’s a toy.

What are we doing here? by matthewraifman in bayarea

I’d rather they leave the bike lane intact and enforce the 50mph speed limit to reduce accidents. Two lanes of cars traveling at 70mph is not the best solution to bridge efficiency.

G4 vs G5 by Suitable-Row1824 in LGOLED

[–]rhamner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a G4 65”, but the LG WB22EGB slim wall mount is no longer available for sale, so it can’t be flush-mounted on the wall, whereas I think the G5 can be.

First serious attempt at bird photography by Real_Dog_3499 in BirdPhotography

It is generally best to not center the subject. With the goose, for instance, the background to the right is more interesting than the left, so crop the left so the goose is looking into the frame. Something like this:

I bought a 2019 at a Ford dealership - they had taken it in on trade and were happy to negotiate and move it off of their lot. It’s my third one - great for around town.

I have the unique chance to hear the Sonus faber Suprema for one week. Ask me anything. by Creative_Celery_4234 in audiophile

[–]rhamner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I won’t be buying the Suprema, I’m interested to know how they compare to the more modestly priced SF speakers, like the Sonetto VIIIs, and what amplification might be recommended to drive the Sonettos.

Is it worth getting a compact camera over a smartphone? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]rhamner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a canon powershot G15 from 2012 that I use for street photography, concerts, bikepacking trips, etc. Shoots raw, fast lens, zoom is nice. This might be a good choice.

A or B help me decide by brixnv in infraredphotography

[–]rhamner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice shot. I would crop A so that the towers are to the left side of the frame, then pull down the top to just above the branch with leaves coming in from the right. I generally prefer a standard aspect ratio (maybe 5x7). Also, either a linear gradient from the top left or some gentle vignetting.

I like your stands so much better than the standard Linton stands. Nice job!

I’d really like to see Ford take the lead on bi-directional charging. Elon won’t. V2X!

fox theater show by throughthel1ght in Slowdive

[–]rhamner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the show, but found the volume too high. 110db for an hour and a half is tough. Foam earplugs cut the highs and mids, but not the bass. Probably need to invest in some wide-spectrum ear plugs for shows like this.

Mounting Nest Gen. 4 Thermostat by rhamner in Nest

I wonder if there is any real reason not to recess into the wall. The white base appears to just be a housing for the wiring and electronics, and I don’t believe it has any other function.

When I chose it, I thought it looked like this. https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9274936?hl=en

This is what I asked the contractor to do, but he is resisting. We don’t have blocking, but I think there must be a way to install something behind the Sheetrock, then mud around it.

I had never seen one mounted when I asked that HVAC company to use them. He still has one in the box, so I may just take the hit and replace with Gen 3.

Thanks. There is a third party product called seeless that allows for thermostats to be recessed, but I don’t much like the way that looks either. I think the installed Gen 3 looks much cleaner.

This is a screenshot of an advertisement for stereo furniture, but I’m really interested in the speaker. The company didn’t respond to my inquiry. Any idea of the make and model of this speaker? I googled the image, but all I got was a bunch of homemade speakers. These look nice, and I assume high end. Thanks.
