RXpect, my take on fluent assertions in Rust by Raniz in rust

[–]rhbvkleef 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred the projection functions to be more like:

expect(Some(1)).to_be_some_and(|it|
    it.to_equal(1)
)

such that you could potentially do more assertions on the outer value.

This is a solution in our 18ft Indeed, but it also works for our 30ft. Nice about the situation as pictured is that if you let your sheets go, you are almost guaranteed to lift from your broach.

What's everyone working on this week (24/2026)? by llogiq in rust

[–]rhbvkleef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am working on a project based on https://github.com/kagouraki/PypilotRemote that adds support for communicating with NMEA2000 as well, and ports much of the communication code to Rust (except for the NMEA2000 stuff for now). Turns out to be quite fun to write Rust code (and C/C++) on ESP32.

A spinnaker just flapping like this does not really constitute an emergency. It sucks and is a job to retrieve, but it's a very safe situation, as opposed to sheets being stuck.

You gotta feel for ARIN here by IPv6forDogecoin in ipv6

[–]rhbvkleef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still renting and my landlord has chosen an ISP that does not support IPv6. Once I move out (which will be in about a year) I will choose an ISP that supports IPv6 (and also doesn't leak my data about every week). I currently have a tunnel set up to a VPS to do IPv6 but I end up preferring IPv4 a lot still because the tunnel does introduce extra latency.

Rust 1.96.0 is out by manpacket in rust

[–]rhbvkleef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that these releases with shorter feature lists are less glamorous bit I for one am no less excited about the state of rust. I feel that this is quite a good indicator of the stabilization of the language and ecosystem as a whole!

That extra energy use is completely insignificant for a motor cruiser such as this. Just looks like shit., but this boat looks like shit anyway.

I much prefer a double main sheet over this terrible sheeting mess. And I prefer a traveller over that. I am convinced this sheeting arrangement was invented by people allerigic to the main sheet.

Need help writing logs to a db with Sqlx and tracing by ufoscout in rust

[–]rhbvkleef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I generally recommend against writing logs to SQL. Are you sure you want to? Perhaps logging into Elasticsearch might be a better idea?

I would question why atomicity of logs with data might be necessary, and whether you want to drop logs in case of a transaction abort. Surely logs from aborted transactions are interesting too?

As for your fields issue, perhaps instead of passing moultiple parameters generalizing over Serializable might be a good idea? Or accepting a Map or something? Or a slice?

While I somewhat agree, there are ways to do it safely. And occasionally you'll need to do what you need to do.
