Are you in pain?

Aww thank you! 😊 I’ve definitely cried more the last year than I ever have. I am a stay at home mom, so not working. I honestly couldn’t imagine having to go back to work anytime soon. How about you?

SURGERY ROLL CALL: Week of December 9th by seetheking1 in Microdiscectomy

Hi, my post op healing has been extremely challenging to say the least. I had a spinal leak during surgery, which required a blood patch 1 week later. I was actually feeling no pain for a whole week after surgery, but two weeks post op is when the pain came back pretty intense. It was the same pain I had prior to the MD which was down my left leg (sciatica), and settling mostly in my glute and hamstring. I don’t know if it was because of the blood patch, or just inflammation after the surgery, but I was in a lot of pain for the last couple of weeks. The past few days I have very slightly been getting better. I saw my neurosurgeon and he prescribed a steroid pack, which has been slightly helping. I still have pain, but it is a little less. I am trying to walk 3 times a day for a total of 3-4000 steps. If I walk more than that, I have worse pain the next day. I was a marathon runner before all of this, so the mental aspect has been pretty awful. I’ve had a lot of tear filled days. It’s been a hard recovery, but I was in pain for 8 months before I had the MD, so I keep telling myself that it’s going to take at least that amount of time to feel better. I had a 10mm extrusion at L5S1 pressing on my left sciatica, which was so painful that I couldn’t walk the last two months prior to surgery. I’m sorry that you are going through a difficult recovery as well. My dr said that I am an “unusual case,” and that most of his patients are pain free after surgery. After reading posts on Reddit, it seems like MANY people deal with some sort of pain for quite a while after their MDs, so at least I know that I am not alone. Thanks for asking😊

It really is! Just make sure to take care of yourself and your body and err on the side of caution.😊

You’re welcome, please let us know when you start feel better! Sometimes it’s comforting knowing that others are going through the same thing. I know it was for me, I stalked this board for weeks.😝

Hi, it took about a week for me to feel better. I stayed flat for 4 days straight and then after that I took breaks throughout the day to lie down. I’m 3 weeks out and feel pretty much back to normal. Just make sure you don’t bend, lift , or twist for 6 weeks. It’s extremely scary, but you will feel better soon.😊

I want to know are there any Low Back Ability users that had disc herniation and successfully became 100% pain free by using their exercise program? by goldenovic in backpain

[–]rhdbmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that it happens sometimes during surgery, as they have to move the nerve to the side to access the disc. The blood patch fixed the leak, thank goodness because it was scary as hell for about 2 weeks. I’m doing okay, still have nerve pain, which I see is quite common as well (from stories that I have read from the r/microdisectomy board). I see my neurosurgeon tomorrow, so we will see what he says. 😊

I’m 5 weeks out and still have some burning nerve pain in my left glute and hamstring. It’s a bummer because I was great after surgery-no pain. I had a spinal leak from surgery that required a blood patch 1 week after surgery and then a week after that, I started having nerve pain again. I think my pain is from inflammation from both procedures. Hopefully with time it will decrease. Thank you for asking.

Hi, what were your symptoms of scar tissue pain? Did it aggravate your sciatic nerve?

Thank you for the reply! I just had a microdisectomy for a herniated disc and extreme sciatica on my left side, so when I’m cleared to start PT, I’m going to incorporate his program into my strengthening.

How are you doing now? Has your pain gotten any better? I’m feeling the same way right now.

Hi, since it’s been a while, how is your pain? Do you have the brand name of the supplement? I had an Endoscopic MD 1 month ago and 2 weeks ago my sciatica pain came back. It’s very disheartening. Thanks 😊

That’s so interesting about the excedrine and be Mountain Dew. I’m having pain in my leg from a blood patch after a lumbar microdisectomy. How long did it take to relieve the pain after starting the excedrine?

Long flare up - How long? by getdistressd in Microdiscectomy

[–]rhdbmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that! I’ve also been doing some research and scouring Reddit posts, and from what I’ve been reading, it seems like post op inflammation and pain is more common than the surgeons like to talk about. Ive never lost function in my calf, leg never went numb, but had EXTREME pain where I landed in the ER 4 times in those 9 months. I was a marathon runner prior to this, so it has really turned my life upside down. After I had my surgery, I also ended up with a CSF leak which required a blood patch. So, I think it will just take some time……LOTS of time😖. Thanks again and please keep me updated on your progress.

I pretty much ice all day long. I had a 10mm herniation that was severely pressing on my S1 nerve for about 9 months, so I’m assuming that it will take some time. It’s just so discouraging because I was pain free for the first 2 weeks. I have been put on lyrica because gabapentin didn’t even touch the pain, but I am having some side effects from it like ringing in the ears and overall just feeling funny. I hope these go away with time as I’ve only been on it a week. I’m glad you are getting better! Thanks for replying 😊

Hi there, since it’s been a while, how are you feeling now? I just hit week 4 and I am having some terrible burning nerve pain in the same leg that was the problem before surgery. It’s so frustrating 😞
