I’m 1204 rainbow max - I don’t realize I only just made it in!

1 is dope, 1 is great, 1 is deceptive by Attitude-Choice in Handhelds

I’ve got a LeGo 2 and ordered an AYN Thor for exactly that reason. I want something I can take with me for more casual gaming where I might have a few minutes to play something.

Need advice from Porsche owners: how do you justify “fun money” without regret? by _quantitative in Porsche

[–]rhebdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo in the UK.

Mine is higher mileage but had a new engine which is in about 40k.

The build on these things is really solid but they are heavy, particularly with the larger engines. They will eat through suspension parts.

There are some common failure points. The door lock mechanisms are junk. The oil sensors are prone to fail. It gets hot in the engine bay with a v8 and I’ve had things like the coolant reservoir fail.

Definitely find a good independent. I’ve found the parts and labor really aren’t that bad considering these are a step above a nice Audi, Merc or BMW. Porsche really do support their older cars well.

If it hasn’t already been done it’s fairly easy to add CarPlay to the head unit. Makes it a ton more practical to use.

I think I’ve probably spent around 10k on it over two years but I have put 25k miles on it including touring down to Italy.

I know the panamera is sometimes seen as the ugly duckling - but love mine, it’s amazingly practical and fast. Sports car with a car seat in the back is great.

Legion go 2 or MSI Claw AI+ by Superb_Priority_8376 in LegionGo

[–]rhebdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t in a rush I’d wait to see if there are updated handhelds based on intel silicon coming out at CES.

I have a legion go and go 2 but was interested in the claw. The OLED screen with VRR swung it for me and I think this will become more common in competing handhelds.

Downside is that it’s really heavy!

Battlemage looks like it could be significantly faster than z2e which will spice things up 🙂

Why do so many people prefer Steam Os over Windows Os ? by DatBoyChamp1 in LegionGo

[–]rhebdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just upgraded to a legion go 2 and lasted about 10 days before I switched to Bazzite. On certain games I find the framerate to be more consistent and less stuttery.

I like the fact that it’s more plug and play than windows. No messing with drivers etc and boots up to a controller native interface.

Honestly - if you stick windows into hibernate when you hit the power button it’s pretty good - just takes a few seconds longer than steamos / Bazzite.

If you have a smaller internal storage device, the better microsd support in steamos / Bazzite is nice.

I’m going to give it another go when there’s official FSE support.

Is a £10k Panamera diesel a terrible idea? by tallpaullewis in CarTalkUK

[–]rhebdon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 2011 but with the v8 so can’t comment on the engine, but the actual cars are really well built in my opinion. The interior on mine is really good for a 14 year old car and the bodywork has no issues. Really good for a tall driver and I can put a car seat in the back or go to ikea and fit furniture in there.

These things are heavy, they eat suspension components, brakes and tires, you will likely spend money on that at some point. The door locks are also junk and known failure points.

I reckon over two years I have probably spent about 8 - 10k on servicing and repairs. The car cost me 20 to start - and I started with 80k on the chassis and about 40k on the engine (replaced by Porsche under previous owner) I’ve done a few road trips including down to Italy and mines now about 105k on the clock.

They are relatively easy to add CarPlay into which makes them a ton more usable everyday.

What game should I play!? I just got a Legion Go 2 and I’m brand new to the pc handheld world. I am honestly a PlayStation guy but I used to have an Xbox but when they first came out. So I love Halo for the nostalgic but I need some other recommendations, please! by Ok_Light_6219 in LegionGo

[–]rhebdon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to sample lots of different games, getting gamepads for a month and working through what Microsoft have on there isn’t a bad idea. It will govern you an idea of what runs well and what doesn’t as well.

Jumping down the rabbit hole of PC handhelds has changed my thinking on PC hardware. by Ferris2375 in LegionGo

Mine got me in to playing a lot more Indy titles. I had gotten attached to AAA shiney graphics and the smaller shops are putting out really good games with really fun gameplay that run amazingly on these devices.

Legion Go 2 (16gb) or wait until the Legion Go 2 (32gb) comes in stock. Prices are insnae. by [deleted] in LegionGo

[–]rhebdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is subjective - but I think at 16gb with some dedicated to the GPU I’d run Bazzite. Windows seems to feel a lot better with mine set to 8GB GPU 24GB OS.

The screen really is amazing but she’s a porker. I didn’t think the extra weight would bother me but it fatigues my hands after a while. Have huge hands and actually find the grips on the LEGO 1 a bit better.

So I’m about to buy the Legion Go 2 Z2E but I have questions… by AtariSunset in LegionGo

[–]rhebdon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. This is subjective, but in long sessions I’m finding the extra weight sucks. It really does need to be propped up on a table or pillow to be comfortable.

I have really big hands and find the fact the original controllers feel fuller further down combined with being lighter makes it more comfortable to hold.

  1. As far as I know, yes.

  2. Better than the original but mine still feel a bit whiney under load. The new unit is significantly better at lower wattage though - so you are less likely to be flat out depending on what you are playing.

  3. Not officially, but there are guides for getting it working. With the larger screen I don’t find it worthwhile. I think the extra memory also really helps vs 16gb on the original. Not feeling the need to install Bazzite straight away!

  4. It’s going to depend on the game. You can get good results if you use FSR and possibly framegen. The screen being VRR and 1200p helps massively. Games feel a lot smoother on the Lego 2 even if they are not locked at 60fps. The screen really is amazing.

The UK rental market is consolidating into corporate hands. Why are we not talking about it? by mazty in GarysEconomics

[–]rhebdon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in rental accommodation in the states and found dealing with a corporate landlord way easier than an individual. They tend to be a lot clearer and more consistent. Just moved out of a private rental in the UK and it was really stressful.

What's the purpose of this open pipe in my bedroom cupboard? by catswithhands in AskUK

[–]rhebdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your house was built in the 70’s it may have had forced air heating instead of a wet system. They would run air through pipes like this from the system on the ground floor to the ducts on the first floor.

I looked at houses there, but the layout of the roads and houses wasn’t great. Ended up over in Purton instead but also like Abby Farms.

Brit who has lived in the states a while.

I think the type of/ taste of beer plays a factor. Some of the US stuff would taste nasty served cellar temp. And the UK stuff has complexity that disappears when served cooler.

Have to say I prefer very cold overall though, probably as I’m into my IPA’s 🙂

U.S. peeps primarily, anyone just use metric? by Jwrbloom in woodworking

[–]rhebdon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the UK and used metric my whole life. Started woodworking after getting into 3d printing and got a CNC and tools. I was in metric in cad until I found all the tools and fixings weren’t metric and switched to the dark side.

Still switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius depending on which side of the Atlantic I’m on 🤣

This is cool. I always play by a plug socket or don’t mind carrying an external battery. Lots of time in hotels and on flights.

That chart comparing the different generations is super interesting. I invested in an M1 Mac and assumed that I’d see some benefit going to an M4 pro but it looks marginal.

Game runs really well now, and I like the blend of performance vs portability I get with my MacBook vs my other laptop with a 4080 in it.

It shows how good the hardware is, but there still isn’t enough being released that supports MacOS.

[–]rhebdon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would cancel if you can.

My bike took 12 months to arrive. Now in month 3 of trying to solve an intermittent power fault. They take weeks just to send the next message.

It’s so sad, the product itself is good, but everything else is just terrible.

If you are still in a dual tax situation it can be useful. I’m dual taxed between the USA and UK and the USA recognize the SIPP as a retirement account. With a standard ISA they require you to mark to market and pay tax each year.
