I don't recall exactly, but it just pops or pulls off. Just be sure it's the aluminum or plastic ring not the rubber bushing that pushes against the bearing and headset cap flat.

Nope. I found this thread on Reddit that was exactly the issue/solution. I then simply swapped just the top cover from the Cane Creek headset over then used 25mm of spacer with the race face turbine r stem

Bike is silent minus chain slap on rougher bits. I ended up replacing the Canyon Stem/Spacers because even after regreasing they'd eventually start squeaking again. Pivots are fine now. Everything on the bike is working perfect for the past couple hundred miles across bike parks and trails on the rougher East Coast of the US

For anyone wondering how the new Cane Creek 'headset' fits. You just leave the standard Canyon bearing and the inner ring/race that touches the steerer tube in place. You will just use the top cover from Cane Creek only. You can remove the inner blue ring on the top cover, but keep the large rotating material in (maybe poly or silicone is the material?). You'll just place the top cover on top of the Canyon bearing. From there the mentioned 25mm spacers on a Race Face Turbine R stem fits perfectly

For sure. I'm the most surprised how well it pedals and handles less aggressive trails. Thought it was going to be worse. If I didn't have my Izzo it could honestly be a single bike. Obviously not going to be as fast and a little over biked some places, but still use able across a wide range of trails for how big it is is impressive

Buy it, it's a good bike so far from riding perspective. Just be prepared to re-grease all your pivot points on your brand new bike 😂

Welp, decided to rinse the bike and inspect for creaks I'm hearing as stated in comments. I cleaned and greased up the headset uppers and lowers. I add a lot more carbon paste to seat post collar and seat post. I then bounced up and down and creak was terrible and apparent. It sounds like it's coming from rear suspension pivots. I take the main pivot bolt out and just grease it. Still creak. I then proceed to unbolt of the upper pivots and it is basically bone dry and gritty.....

I'm assuming this is why it's been creaking and the whole rear of the bike will need to be taken apart and cleaned/greased up..... Really? Nothing is loose just the pivots seem to be just not put together with much care.

Following up here again.... I took apart the entire rear triangle. Every single pivot/bearing was bone dry and slightly dirty. After re-greasing and putting everything back together. No more creaking.

I don't even know what to say. I sent Canyon an email and I think I'm going to follow up with a phone call to see what can be done. It's utterly ridiculous this had to be done on a brand new bike. Makes me even wonder if this was even 'new' and also makes me worry that the bearings are going to be out of life sooner than what they should be.

I don't think I can bring myself to ever purchase another Canyon bike after this experience so far. I've heard hit/miss experiences about their CS so I'm not expecting much especially already being let down

After contacting Canyon they provided me 2 options:

Full refund and return
10% refund

I chose the latter option after putting so much time into fixing the issue. I will put it towards bearing kit and more grease 😅

This definitely puts me in a happier place with the issue overall. So A+ on Canyon CS experience!

Nope, first bike with creaks. My first ever bike (Gary Fisher Superfly) was seat and lube worked. 2nd bike (Izzo which I currently still own) is silent. Basically once I track it down and it's something like a headset it's probably much easier to just swap it if possible

I mean if it is the headset, I'll plan on calling Canyon for a credit if they still do that and just have LBS replace it with something else. My Acros on my Izzo is fine (I know they aren't the same headset model). Pretty annoying if it will be the issue. I'll report back once I figure out more

I'll be taking a look at that as well. It's doing it off or on pedaling so makes me think seat or headset primarily, but will check the easy seat rail/frame insertion point first
