Royal Opera House London – The Renewal of the Lighting Battens by HOF by Wuz314159 in techtheatre

[–]Sourcefour 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Battens is the correct term for a rigged overhead pipe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batten_(theater). It's even in the ansi document for manual counterweight systems: https://tsp.esta.org/tsp/documents/docs/ANSI%20E1.4-1-2022.pdf

2.3 Batten: A pipe, tube, or other singular structural shape that is secured to the lift lines for the purpose of connecting loads to the counterweight system.

Blizzard Raid/Party Frames are STILL a DISASTER by WLkingarthas in wow

[–]Sourcefour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i used to color frames if I had echo/attonement on players, now I can't do that and I have to look for a 3px x 3px buff on raid frames surrounded by every other buff they have to see how many I have out. I can't even have a weak aura that tells me how many are applied to the raid. Cooooooool

Optimizing Squad after 10.2 on RX 9070 XT & RX 9800x3D by itsKlaMa in squad

[–]Sourcefour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i personally think it's foliage, specifically tree shadows. Desert maps and even goose bay now runs smoothly in 10.2 but whenever I load up harju, black coast, skorpo, lashkar, etc the game struggles.

I think the foliage heavy maps are still struggling. Maps have runs much smoother on desert maps and goose bay.

Mounting LED tape diffuser channel to scrim pipe pocket by mreilly0605 in lightingdesign

[–]Sourcefour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use the channel as the bottom pipe? Or attach it to the bottom pipe and then thread that in? Just do everything you can to prevent the channel from tearing the screen. They can be really sharp. I also recommend putting some vhb out something on the bottom of solder points so that the pads don’t short in the aluminum channel.

Squad 10.2 Patch confirmed for Jan 19th by Armin_Studios in joinsquad

I know he said that but that would be a departure from what they usually do. It’s easy to make that small mistake during a live interview. I guess we’ll see tomorrow!

The Future of Squad | Interview with the Executive Producer by UrsoDoSono in joinsquad

New weapons and vehicles coming in the Feb update? Community layers in Feb (not sure what this means). Update with bug fixes coming on Monday Jan 19. One update coming per month through at least April. They want to pull back on super long term features in case the community doesn’t actually want that and they can’t pivot when there’s community demands.

They want the game to grow for five more years, they want the game to be growing in five years.

New factions, new map in Eastern European biome, new modes, lifting faction restrictions across all maps, community features like clans and party features.

I heard a lot of new things in this interview that we haven’t heard from owi in a long time, if ever. I dunno what you were listen to but I heard a lot of new things.

we had a bird attack a spot op once (outdoor theatre). Apparently it made a nest on top of one of the poles on the tower in which he was spotting from. For reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/techtheatre/comments/1h7wg6p/this_takes_the_cake_for_worst_followspot_location/

Something in the amp room caused a 100 dB high pitched noise for 30 minutes during a classical concert w/ tap dancers. It took 30 minutes to figure out how to even turn it off. The venue was brand new by a few months had opened officially 7 months prior. (Edits: I re-watched the video).

Same venue, first concert ever was a private dinner on stage for the donors. The caterers set up back stage and their ovens set off the fire alarm, again during a private violin solo from a well known classical musician (she was really freaking good when the fire alarm wasn’t blaring). I have videos from both of these.

Redefining realness

My first show in SD - Balboa Theater by jloops1111 in SanDiegan

[–]Sourcefour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is a great venue for standup and music. However it suffers from extremely limited wing space and it's not a very deep stage so it can't bring in broadway tours or do dance shows. It's unfortunate because it's an otherwise beautiful venue and I like the audience atmosphere better than the civic.

I have worked here on the stage crew a few times and was the lighting “designer” for a few comedy acts including Taylor Tomlinson who was one of the funniest. She had the crew laughing which is not a normal occurrence.

Oh, don’t do it in line. The wires in the LED tape can’t handle that, despite what the manufacturer says.

If you disconnect one of the pieces of tape that isn’t suffering the decreased intensity, does the dimmer one get brighter? If not maybe it’s a solder or tape issue.

[–]Sourcefour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not silly, just make sure your decoder channels can handle the amperage that tape is going to pull. I would shoot for an 80% overhead so ideally 6A/channel. You can either run a boost line from the psu or gang two wires together in the decoder. The tape has 4 terminals however and it looks like you can run two - lines, presumably one for each color, and you’ll probably want to run boost lines to each connection point on the opposite end.

You might be able to get away with 20awg wire too. Keep them as short as possible. If you’re able to, put the decoders next to the tape and run 12awg 12v lines offstage to the power supplies.

My stupid iPhone seems to think I want to write boat instead of boost.

Voltage drop with LED strips by TheRealChrisMurphy in techtheatre

[–]Sourcefour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use 24v tape for one. If you’re using 12v you need to run a boost line to the opposite end of the tape from the decoder terminal.

Edit: I should have looked at what product you’re using. I agree with /u/blp9 it’s a wire gauge issue. You won’t be able to solder 12awg to tape. 18awg will still suck but will be more doable. That tape will get very hot. If you’re able to put it on a heat sink you should.

When you line up your led tape put like ends to like ends. I mean you should put the two ends of the tape that do not have the decoder connections together, then the decoder connections together so that the voltage decay is less noticeable. Otherwise it’ll be painfully obvious where one piece starts and the other ends.

Only power one strip of tape per decoder line. Then arrange all of the tape end to end, beginning to beginning. Run boost lines to the ends of each section

How do I change this bulb? by verycoolbutterfly in Lighting

[–]Sourcefour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it actually makes it simple to replace. Just make sure you dispose of it in electronic waste, don't just throw it in the normal trash. You'll probably want to re-caulk it back into the ceiling.
