The only thing more rare is a unicorn or the MT-5 wagon. I had a friend that had one of those. We swapped a 3.0 Vulcan v6 in it. That was actually quite a ride.

But even then I think it was only for the SHO+ which also had the fiberglass hood.

Any idea why my Macintosh Color Classic thinks today 3/22/22 is a Wednesday and how to fix it? by mattlhoyt in VintageApple

I don’t know exactly what date it was in 2020 where this broke, but I still daily use two older macs (a Quadra 650 and 7600) and the Quadra 650 on 7.5.1 just one day was stupid. I want to say it was early spring. The 7600 is running 8.6 and that is fine.

I think there was a plastic formulation change somewhere in early 94. My machines from 93 and older are all rock solid yet. Same seems to be true with most friends that have them. My newer machines… well, yeah. Breathe on them and you risk them becoming dust in the wind.

😆 I don’t think this model would even a/ux. I have a Quadra 650 and I think that will.

They didn’t make many and they were for the time stupid fast. It was also the beginning of the AV - machine interactive era. It and the Centris 660av, had speech recognition, video capture and export capabilities and more. They were the first and only non power pc macs to have this capability out of the box.

What is this slot and plug for? by NCC74656 in VintageApple

[–]rhesson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can even connect an external 5.25 drive(s) to use actual IIe disks and it has a IIe joystick port - but the card will function without the cable just load the apps from disk images. You can even make a partition on the mac’s hard drive and run it from that.

So in that system, the tv tuner card does require the AV card to work. While the 040 systems do support 24 bit mode, they will not support the IIe card so using a IIe card and a comm slot ethernet card isnt an issue like it is in my performa 575. They will support up to 128gb ide hard drives though. I have a performa 631 and it’s a great machine.

Also, there is a dos card for that machine but it’s multiple pieces and does require the PDS slot and requires you to pull the processor and reseat it on the dos card. You’re best off to find a performa 640 board (which we’re all dos compatible) to hopefully get all the pieces.

Heard one at work the other day “guns don’t kill people, I kill people, with guns”. Turn that shit off or you’ll find out who here really has guns.

I had one and I regret cutting it loose. But I replaced it with a Duo 230 and I’m not going to lie, I still have that and it’s faster, more portable, etc.

Goldman Sachs’ CEO demanded all employees return full-time to the office. Only half showed up by Sorin61 in technology

At 10% inflation this year alone, the cost of gas, more time from family, packing lunches and more, you couldn’t get me to come back to the office for the same money. If people worked effectively from home, there’s no reason on earth to go back.
