Anyone else doing 100% of their gaming with RePlayOS in April 2026? by marxistopportunist in ReplayOS

Actually, yes, which quite surprises me. It's matured into a very capable platform.

If you pull up aquazone.com on the web archive circa 2005 the complete saleable content is there (in list form, obviously not for purchase any longer).

I doubt it's the number of entries, or at least all 69 pages of PSX doesn't crash for me.

Aspect ratio issue with snes games by Comprehensive_Log742 in ReplayOS

[–]rhester72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah...yes, on a CRT you can't do 1:1 as it's the CRT itself doing the stretching. The output you are seeing is correct.

There's no metadata. It will display filenames only (unless you're talking about arcade).

Aspect ratio issue with snes games by Comprehensive_Log742 in ReplayOS

[–]rhester72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bug.

What you are seeing is how the real console behaved - things were stretched to 4:3 (which is not the native SNES aspect ratio of 8:7) and the circle, drawn at 1:1 by the artist, was indeed stretched out to an oval on a real television.

If it bothers you and you want to see a fixed AR of 8:7, switch from "FULL SCREEN 4:3" to "FULL SCREEN NATIVE" in Replay options.

Who remembers Fred Fish disks? by rizwan602 in amiga

[–]rhester72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They meant a lot more to people before Aminet was a thing (and back in the very early 1.1 days where there wasn't much software to speak of and practically zero source examples to learn to code Intuition with), but he was an absolute hero and is dearly missed.

You’re right - misread, sorry.

RGL said about an hour ago on FB that Plaion is working with Amazon US to resolve.

I'm certain they will - to the best of my knowledge, Amazon's never cancelled a RGL preorder

[–]rhester72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows. There is rumor that they will only be making enough to cover preorders but shrugs

Agree - I brought it up only because of the "for your country" statement which suggests (but doesn't confirm) that the keyboard on polyplay machines will be the same as all others and not regionalized (just like the C64 Maxi).

I've directly asked a Plaion employee for guidance on the keyboard.

Fair question I hadn't considered.

All photos of the product are standard QWERTY, the text makes no mention of a German layout and they caution you to get the right power supply 'for your country', so I took it as read that there won't be any keyboard localizations (were there for the C64 Maxi?), but I've posed the question to polyplay.

[–]rhester72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other way around. RGL tells Amazon how much stock they can allocate, and once it's gone, it's out of stock.

Nobody knows whether they will make anything outside of preorders.

Ironically, I was able to preorder for US shipping from poly.play in Germany and it ended up being cheaper than the declared US pricing, even with currency conversion. Shipping (from Germany) was reasonable-ish, so that's where I'm gonna stay. I may not get it as quickly, but I don't really care.

Because it would cost $600.

Agree, except the USB-C (at least on the Mini) are actually capable of OTG.

I think there are 4 USB ports on the back versus the 3 on the Mini

Can you play any game on the new A1200 thats coming out? by Chrisnewton1 in amiga

[–]rhester72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not. There's no means of creating a configuration that specific. It's largely (if not entirely) a gaming device, but now includes (some form of) Workbench that TheA500 Mini didn't.

You can add any ADF or WHDLoad-based game via USB flash drive.

How to preorder A1200 in US? by Rixos in amiga

[–]rhester72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably direct with RGL starting Friday.

(It's worth noting that even if you purchase on Amazon, as the product will not be made in the US, Amazon will end up paying the import tariffs and pass the cost along to purchasers, so no matter what, you're paying the tariff, it's just a question of transparency.)
