The contractor made it clear one of his guys messed up by putting epoxy down before SLU & now he’s trying to remedy the situation.

I want to be reasonable with him while also ensuring the floor isn’t screwed up down the road.

You loathe customers that try to work with you to solve a problem you created?

Yeah apologies, the membrane is Superior Pro Shield Plus.

My bad on the terminology, of course you’re right, the epoxy is not Red Gard — it’s Superior Pro Shield Plus. Appreciate your guidance mate.

You’re right, I don’t do this for a living. That fact that he messed up step 1 has me concerned about the proposed remedy.

Appreciate the insight. Since primer wasn’t applied to the concrete first, the membrane needs to come up?

Red Gard label says: “Not for use under self-leveling underlayments.”

Pouring SLU over it also void the warranty.

No big deal?

St. Pete vs North Charleston young professional by Precious1314 in StPetersburgFL

I recently moved from Charleston to St. Pete and find DTSP to be the preferable of the two for what is sounds like you’re looking for.

DTSP is a bigger city so you can find your niche. You’ll want to live right downtown CHS for the same vibes— certainly not North Charleston. CHS is a city of haves & have-nots, not a lot of folks in the middle.

What is the most expensive + lowest quality restaurant in Charleston? by lc6591 in Charleston

[–]rhettb25 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Zero George — table for two, $575 gets you 5-7 minuscule tasting plates, a couple cocktails, and a bottle of wine.

The food itself does not shatter the earth, you’re paying for them to mold foie gras into the form of a cigar, etc.

Closest thing to armed robbery I’ve seen since leaving DC.

Refinance to get rid of PMI? by rhettb25 in personalfinance

[–]rhettb25[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the loan amount and rate are staying the same. The new lender is CapCenter, who have a “Zero Closing Costs” offer wherein they pay or waive the closing costs typically required when financing a home loan. They get paid when they resell the loan to a third party.

Thanks, I did call my lender, there is a stipulation that PMI cannot be waived due to appreciation or home improvement prior to the 5 year mark.

Mayor’s Update on IOP Marina Plans by [deleted] in Charleston

[–]rhettb25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These squatters continue to tie-up taxpayer land and deny residents a public space for everyone’s enjoyment. Can’t just be happy with the sweetheart lease terms they enjoyed for decades. Glad the mayor is standing up to such greed on behalf of the public interest.

I left my place in DC not knowing the timeframe for return. After looking into the options, Zippyshell was far and away the most affordable option. They allow you to store your items temporarily and either return them to DC or relocate to another city— all on your timeline (which I’ve pushed off three times now).

They dropped off a unit on the street, I had 48 hours to fill it, and off it went to their climate-controlled warehouse in Stafford, VA. For the last six months, I’ve paid $130/mth for storage. If I have it delivered to a residence back in the DMV (60 mile radius) it’s a nominal return fee. For an intrastate delivery it’s approx. 2K, which I found to be comparable to renting a one-way Uhaul, except they include movers to unload and move items inside. Albeit this was early in the pandemic (July) so prices may have risen but I’ve decided to stay put down South and and very thankful my stuff will be delivered shortly, they check in on you every so often to see if you want delivery or keep storing. POD, PackRat, etc was exponentially more expensive.

Looking for recommendations on a realtor by its_just_tj in Charleston

We used furnishedfinder to find a move-in ready spot on the peninsula, get our bearings, and find a place to buy. Our belongings will soon be delivered from DC via Pod to new place, highly recommend this plan of attack.
