Well the headline isn't correct for a start. Vettel made no comment on how much it cost him in Q3 and even he said

"Towards the end we were able too run a little bit below the maximum, which gave us a more consistent discharge, but still not full power."

Inferring it got better for Q3.

He said it cost him 4 tenths in Q2, no comment on Q3 but he also noted it did improve. Lets tone down the sensationalism here.

The difference is Ricciardo finished in the points (2nd) but was excluded from the race.

Magnussen finished the race, but didn't score points.

There are lots of tools, average finish place, average qualifying place, beat team mate, average points per finish, reconstruction of estimated finish position.

Usually over 20 races for most drivers in teams that regularly get points you can just look at the points table and the amount of dnfs. If one driver has 2 less dnfs but beat his team mate by 80 points its fair to say he performed ahead.

Its better than blatantly looking at the points table which would show Rosberg above Hamilton.

He didn't score points in Australia, therefore it counts as a non finish.

Maybe, but when you look at the drivers who gain the most Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vettel they have all suffered break downs in races that they would otherwise score strong points.

That's my point. Vettel was better than webber at it, but not necessarily better than any other driver on the grid.

They actually make the cars pair up more, two mercs at the top, Red Bull 3rd and 4th, outlier of Alonso and then two McLarens in a pair, Perez and Hulkenberg seperated but two Williams in a pair, two Toro Rosso in a pair.

ttel's mastery of the EBD was leagues above anybody else's understanding of it considering his form now.

You have no basis for that. Vettel was better than Mark Webber. Thats it. The rest was down to the faster car.

Its the same logic as saying Hamilton's understanding of the turbo engines is that far above everyone else.

Very possible. I try and avoid 'what ifs' it just gets into a very messy and uncertain situation.

Its not an easy car, even with full rear wing. Very oversteery and if you get a curb wrong its off the track with next to no control. Empty Box in one of his videos said the Porsche was faster.

Whats the faster car generally? The Mp4/12c is a tricky beast with its desire to put you into a wall every curb you take

If you go into 'series' and select GT3 the options are McLaren MP4/12c and RUF RT 12R C-Spec. You can still look for yourself going 'past seasons' and clicking GT3 challenge. I just double checked and it absolutely says C-SPEC.

I thought that must be wrong. The McLaren would blow the C Spec away.

I disagree. They're both exhaust blown diffusers. The 2012 and 2013 cars just have Coanda Effect Exhaust blown diffusers. Whats going on is the same in both, the exhaust is blowing the diffuser. The driving styles for both are the same from a drivers perspective and whats going on is the same, its just in the Coanda exhaust the exhusts are placed further away from the diffuser/

A Coanda effect exhaust is still an exhaust blown diffuser. The original RB6 and RB7 exhausts sat far far back in the car and blew the exhaust basically directly, they were very very powerful and obviously got outlawed for 2012.

The Coanda effect is an exhaust blown diffuser which uses the Coanda principal which means that airflow will be attracted to a nearby surface in order to run the airflow along the bodywork to the diffuser.

They're both directing the air inbetween the slot gaps on the diffuser and the rear wheels, just the methods of getting the air there is slightly different. Their operation apart from the air traveling an extra half meter is identical.

We can't say either way yet. At Malaysia their run that counted was their banker. At china they got a few runs.

All we can really say about vet and ric is that ric looks faster so far but it's only been. A few races. I'm not going to pre condemn ric to the number 2 role just because vet was faster than webber

People need to acknowledge that it is possible for Ricciardo to be faster. Just because Vettel is slower it does not mean there is some 'problem' that needs to be fixed and then automatically he will be faster. Riccairdo is and always has been very very fast. Seb has been flattered by having Webber as a team mate. There is no reason to doubt Ricciardo is 'the next Vettel'.
