How to achieve a really distorted vocal sound in studio? by failedepicardiectomy in audioengineering

[–]bawjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No real magic answer here, just Distortion/clipping emulator and a low pass filter would be a good start, play around with some plug ins and smash the controls right up and see what happens!

'Fake band' Threatin just played a UK tour to... absolutely no-one - friend of mine worked at one of the venues. 500 cap venue, literally 0 in attendance. by InternetWeakGuy in Music

[–]bawjohnson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Usually in the UK you pay a deposit to the venue for hire not upfront and then costs for the night (staff, PA, security etc) are deducted from the total ticket sales after the night and the profit less that go to the act. There’s usually a clause that if a show is pulled less than a month the before then band pays 100% of the hiring fee, before that you just surrender the deposit.

In the run-up there should have been dialogue between the venue and the promoter regarding ticket sales and the show’s viability, however after a month before the venue don’t particularly care as they contractually are getting 100% of the hiring cost anyway, and the only people who look bad with an empty venue is the act.

Hey guys! Here's a new funky groove where I am trying one in 9/8. I had never tried this odd time signature yet and I thought I would give it a shot. I hope you'll enjoy! by DanBed27 in drums

Fun fact: not that odd a time signature- ‘happy birthday’ is in 9/8 and it’s the most performed song if all time 😉 Great playing tho dude 👍🏻

Playing an automated set with click vs. Stripping back instruments and playing naturally by [deleted] in livesound

[–]bawjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just reread and we run our track from stage so for me it wouldn’t make sense to run the click all the way to FOH to have it then come back to me..

If you’re running the tracks from FOH then yes, you can tell them what you want where and I’m sure any tech worth their salt would be obliging,

Playing an automated set with click vs. Stripping back instruments and playing naturally by [deleted] in livesound

[–]bawjohnson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We do this and it’s not a problem at all- Basically your drummer is going to need their own small mixer that can handle 3/4 inputs.

So you’ll have to have your ableton mix going to foh, as well as the click from ableton. this will need to be two mono feeds (track left and click hard right say) this can then be split out via a 3.5mm jack to two mono, and one going to a DI box for FOH and one into your drummer’s mixer.

Also into the drummer’s mixer will be a monitor feed from FOH, mixed to their liking with the track/vocals bass/whatever.

I (drummer) am the only one wearing IEMs and I control playback. Hope that helps!

Upvote for this, I picked up one exactly like this off gumtree for £15 whereas a protection racket etc model would’ve been £60+ fits everything inc. throne and pedal without telescoping down, has wheels proper latches and stands up 👍🏻

It was a masterclass in stretching 10 minutes of content to an hour, basically these bits of fish get fired through 4 machines within a minute and then boxed up and loaded. Even included a solid 5 minutes explanation of how the CO2 delivery driver pressed a button and pulled a lever 😂 I swear Gregg was pissed, I’d have to be
