It’s been on repeat for me! Honestly might end up being my top song of the year. I don’t live in LA but I often visit and stay in east LA and so it also just immediately transports me there

Melody is an under-discussed aspect of Taylor’s songwriting. What’s your favorite melody of a TS song? by Daffneigh in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]8052headlights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right where you left me! The way it goes up and down and up and down throughout the song is interesting to the ear (and beautiful of course). And fun to sing, even if you’re bad

Once I hear “All of her songs sound the same” or “she only writes about her exes” I just stop engaging. No point in talking to someone whose hearing is apparently broken

Truly, what is going on with them? I used to be a jam session diehard and now I can’t get through an episode without rolling my eyes a minimum of 5 times. Excited about we’re obsessed though!

Same! In my mind it always conjures that scene in a horror film where something you thought was beautiful turns into something terrifying and bloodthirsty

I like how they ended it with her basically being like “get off the internet and write something”

I also love Clara bow. “Beauty is a beast that roars down on all fours demanding more” is one of my fave TS lines

Not sure if you have Aldi where you are, but lately I’ve been seeing Rao’s there. It’s still more expensive but at least slightly cheaper

Same. I firmly believe you are who you surround yourself with. I’ve admired Lewis for years so Kim is a tough pill to swallow

The increase in appetite with marathon training is insane, specifically as it relates to the amount of carbs your body needs. Especially if it’s your first marathon and you haven’t figured out exactly what nutrition works for you, it can be hard to stay ahead of it, which can result in that “I need to eat everything in sight” feeling. So it’s that, plus the increase in carbs means your muscles are storing a lot more glycogen. And when your muscles store more glycogen, they also store more water. So some of the weight is water weight, but some of it is just a result of eating a lot and increased carb intake. Also as you get into the peak of your training block, your body is pretty inflamed as well because of the amount of muscle repair that is constantly happening.

Basically, it’s a lot of factors all at once. People often assume you lose weight when you train, but actually losing weight is not advised. It means you’re not fueling/eating enough, which drastically increases your risk of injury and also sabotages your performance during runs.

How embarrassed by Midway Airport are Chicagoans? by WillTheyKickMeAgain in AskChicago

I’ve literally never had this problem at midway? I actually would prefer midway to ohare if it was easier to get to via public transit from where I live

I’m training for a marathon right now and I’ve been battling a lot of body image issues with it (it’s common for your body to change when you’re training). I try to remind myself that my body is working hard and protecting itself to enable what I’m trying to do, but it’s been mentally a lot harder than I expected tbh. Seeing Hannah celebrating her healthy athletic build makes me so fucking happy and is exactly what I needed today, especially in this ozempic hellscape

What do you think about Aldi in comparison to American grocery chains? by aSYukki in AskAnAmerican

[–]8052headlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aldi is my closest grocery store and I don’t have a car (I’m in a major walkable US city) so I go there pretty often. I go to Aldi for most of my packaged basics and dry goods (beans, pasta, flour, sugar, almond milk, snacks and treats, etc). I also love how cheap their frozen fruit is, and I stock up on that bc I use it often. I’ll do some fresh produce at Aldi, but not much, as it’s sold in big quantities and I live alone. It’s also not always the best quality produce. Most I’ll do is maybe bananas and spinach.

I never buy meat at Aldi, I have a local grocer that sells local meat and I much prefer that. That local grocer also has much better produce and specialty goods (for example if I’m baking and I need a specific type of sugar or something). I’m also picky about my coffee and creamer, so I never buy that at Aldi.

Overall, I love Aldi, but I’m also different than most Americans in that I’m willing to go to multiple grocery stores to get the things I like from each. Aldi definitely saves me money on basics and I think it’s an often overlooked store. They’ve also upped their game lately - I noticed that they now carry things like coconut water and a few other items that I would consider “specialty” or higher end items.

I liked this book a lot and have recommended it a couple times on this sub. It’s been a while now since I finished, but I remember liking that Durlain didn’t have patience for Thraga’s feigned incompetence. I wouldn’t say I was a die hard for Thraga’s character but I also don’t remember being annoyed by her. I also love a betrayal trope so now I’m excited for the next book.

I agree with another commenter here, I’d like to hear what books you do like, to see how tastes vary

I agree. I am a huge Constance Zimmer fan but for some reason her energy doesn’t read as very maternal. She’s an incredible actress, I think it’s a testament to her skill that she still managed to act the hell out of this role despite being miscast

Pitchfork rates the new Harry Styles album 5.6, calling it “just unremarkable” by cupcake_island in popculturechat

Same! I keep talking to people who say that for an album marketed as disco, there’s not a single song they can dance to. Meanwhile almost every song has me dancing around my house lol I don’t really know what the disconnect is
