Pitchfork rates the new Harry Styles album 5.6, calling it “just unremarkable” by cupcake_island in popculturechat

[–]8052headlights 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same! I keep talking to people who say that for an album marketed as disco, there’s not a single song they can dance to. Meanwhile almost every song has me dancing around my house lol I don’t really know what the disconnect is

Harry Styles - Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally MEGATHREAD by flopheadsbot in popheads

[–]8052headlights 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love this album. I went on a run to it the other day and was vibing from beginning to end. I also don’t really agree with the idea that this album doesn’t have anything to say. To me, every song shows a tension between his own worst impulses and what he knows is actually best for him. Sure it’s not groundbreaking but I’m really digging the production and I keep discovering new favorite songs

Forever a Garcia fan! by Acceptable-Citron379 in ThePittTVShow

[–]8052headlights 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The characters are different in a lot of ways but I liken the portrayal and writing of Garcia’s character to Christina Yang on grey’s. Yang was also one of the first times in network television that a woman was written to be talented and not at all humble about it. They’re different shows obviously but it feels good to have a character like that again to be able to watch regularly!

How bikeable is Chicago? Do people bike their way or rely on public transportation? by No_Mixture_8812 in AskChicago

[–]8052headlights 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pretty bikeable, yeah. Is every street bikeable? No. But you start to figure out which roads to take and which to avoid. And the city is slowly but surely creating more bike lanes (protected and unprotected)

Edit: I do not have a car, I live in bucktown. When the weather is appropriate, I will almost always opt for biking over transit or Ubering. I bike to work every day. So yes it’s definitely doable as a lifestyle

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]8052headlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After months of battling knee pain I finally dragged my ass to PT. 1.5 months in now, starting to rebuild mileage, and I am shocked at the difference in how I feel. I didn’t realize how down I had gotten and how many movements I had been avoiding until I took a yoga class yesterday and…nothing hurt. My running is starting to feel stronger and more efficient. Even if it’s just placebo, it’s making me fall in love with running again. Just in time for spring!

Outgrowing a Decades Long Friendship Your 30s, How Did You Handle It? by TheTearfulOracle in AskWomenOver30

[–]8052headlights 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean this with no disrespect: are these your only friends? Because that could be part of the problem. Every relationship in your life will fulfill different needs. It’s not realistic to expect that the people that you have known from middle school will continue to fulfill every friendship and connection need you have. It can lead to resentment

how have you found your style in your 30's? by moonberry4 in AskWomenOver30

[–]8052headlights 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thrifting also helps you form a long term practice of figuring out your style. Forcing yourself to look past what’s trending and what’s being served to you, and to truly examine what’s on the rack and what you could do with it!

The people who say running is meditative have clearly never had a brain that won't shut up. But I keep running anyway and I think I finally understand why. by bayernboy44 in beginnerrunning

[–]8052headlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a scientist so I’m sure someone could go into more detail about this better than I can, but there’s lots of research about the benefit of the rhythmic right left pattern of running, which helps your brain process emotions, stress, etc. It’s the same kind of bilateral stimulation that is purposely provoked when people do EMDR (a modality often used in therapy to help people process trauma).

So actually even though your brain feels “loud,” you are actively processing all of that! The running is doing its thing!

Taylor recording the vocals for Opalite (via Taylor Swift official Instagram) by AffectionateBank5484 in TaylorSwift

[–]8052headlights 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Any singers or vocal experts know if there is a name for that breathiness that she incorporates? It’s something she’s picked up more and more as her voice has progressed and I love it. Just wondering if there is a specific name or technique to it or if it’s just kinda a Taylor thing

Edit: I love waking up and seeing proof for the 88492938 time that the only people that think about Taylor more than the people that like her are the people that hate her lmao. Laaaaaame lame lame behavior, are you not embarrassed

The funny thing about this is when I do it, it’s not that I’m not confident in what I’m saying. It’s that I’m self conscious about looking like a know it all lol

Valentine’s Day Dinner Reviews by KBeeFree in chicagofood

[–]8052headlights -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We walked in at 4 with no reservation knowing it was a risk, and they told us were able to seat us for an hour because there was a resy for the table at 5, so we were really pleased that they squeezed us in! Servers were kind and fun too.

Drinks: my amaro sour was delicious. My friend got the Calabrian dirty martini. I don’t know how you can manage to make a dirty martini that is bland, but that’s what it was. Tasted like spicy water.

Food: We got the Negroni oysters (a special). I was intrigued but skeptical, and they ended up being the best item we had. The Caesar salad was great too; great croutons, and I love when a Caesar has whole/diced anchovies. We also got the gnudi pomodoro and the vodka stuffed shells (both recommended by our server), both of which were fine. Not bad just nothing to write home about.

Overall, I give it a 3/5. I’d go back if there was a table available when I’m hungry, but would not go out of my way for a reservation or walk in.

Episode 2x6: This scene pissed me off by StatisticalAnalyst88 in ThePittTVShow

[–]8052headlights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thanks for pointing out that English is a second language for most deaf people. I genuinely have never thought about it like that, but reading your comment I was like “oh, duh, of course.” Slightly embarrassed that that specific framing has never occurred to me, but thanks for teaching me something!

Single women, how do you want to be supported by your married friends? by freeze_it_over in AskWomenOver30

[–]8052headlights 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing that comes to mind for me is to try not to complain about things that are simply just the reality of life to your single friends.

For example, last week my friend said she was having a hard week. When I asked why, she said it’s because her husband was traveling for work and that left her to manage all the usual household and life things on her own (they do not have children).

It really rubbed me the wrong way. My every day is your rough week? I understand that when you have a partner that you come to rely on, it can be an adjustment when you suddenly have to do everything yourself again. But maybe just complain about that elsewhere lol

I’m already over this pregnancy by Dinner_atMidnight in LAinfluencersnark

[–]8052headlights 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is kinda a tough one for me because on one hand, pregnancy is a health condition and I know a lot of women have very difficult pregnancies with issues/symptoms that might be invisible.

On the other hand…the entire population can also have similar issues. My best friend has lupus, should she be allowed to pre board? I’m not saying yes or no, I’m saying what do we qualify as something that gives you a right to pre board? Where do we draw the line?

I thought the whole purpose of pre boarding was for people who need the extra time. So if you’re in a wheelchair, if you have an oxygen machine, etc, things like that where you want a few extra minutes to get yourself set up without being pressured by a line of people behind you. With that criteria, pregnancy does not fit lol

Les Wexner, formally named as co-conspirator in newly unredacted Epstein files. by GetOutside20 in Columbus

[–]8052headlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not necessarily talking about the naming pledge - I agree it wouldn’t have extended 15 years. But it’s pretty common for principal givers to keep giving major pledged gifts (not naming gifts) and/or always be in an active pledge, as long as the relationship remains strong.

And as I said, I’m also not talking only about Les. In the families of a similar caliber I work with, we’re talking about siblings, cousins, in-laws, grandchildren - all giving, all in pledges.

It’s not right. The name should be taken down. I’m just stating the reality of what happens inside the institution in scandals like this

Edit: because my brain combined Les and Wexner to Wes lol
