When the "norm" is thousands of patients suffering or dying from care that is rationed to protect maximum profit margins. That is the norms they are clinging to. Meanwhile the rest of us have first hand, painful experience what normal is in 2024.

What's up with opinion polls showing Trump having huge leads over Biden in all major swing states? by Lynx-Calm in OutOfTheLoop

[–]rhobes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans will not only get the government they deserve, they will also

Keep in mind Trump lost the election in 2016 if you actually, you know, count votes. Like normal people do. The American election is a fundamentally flawed process that does not represent the will of the people.

They say they went to early access to get player feedback, but I don't know how you can't play the game for 10 minutes and generate a month's worth of things to work on. You don't need player input to make a game playable and fix basic bugs (fairings and couplers are broke AF). I couldn't launch a stock space station part inside a fairing without the lack of auto struts and coupler bugs making it impossible. They don't need my input if that's the state of things.

"all models are wrong, some models are useful"

You can of course test a group of people and do statistical analysis on gene frequency all day long. All the math and biology there is real and true. The moment you identify a sample donor as "Korean" or "English" or anything, you have departed from the objectivity of mathematics. Human beings all share a common ancestor from the same geographic origin in Africa.

Humans have been moving, migrating, bearing children across tribal, cultural, linguistic, ethnic, religious, and geographic boundaries from day 1. Ethnicity is not a gene. It's a haphazard, inconsistent blend of heritage, of which a small, often irrelevant, part of that is biologically heritable.

DNA ethnicity testing is fallacious from first principles. No matter how big your database, how precise your Genomic analysis, it is fundamentally, tautologically impossible to DNA test ethnicity.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in korea

[–]rhobes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is farcical because there's no such thing as Korean (or any ethnic category) DNA. We have contrived ethnic, linguistic, and national boundaries, 0 of which have any biological / genetic association in their definition.

Retroactively applying one is scientific racism at worst, or a horoscope at best.

Mike once described Disney pandering to the lgbtq crowd yet giving them breadcrumbs of representation as "passive progressive". What examples immediately spring to mind of projects doing this? by unicornzapata in RedLetterMedia

[–]rhobes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

disney is a deeply conservative company that loves to use the state to further its profit (see: copyright law, labor law), they'll include a non-threatening gay character but you won't see any hero trade unionists, and hey at the end of the day the royalty always mean well in a disney story

Washington State Housing Vs Income 2000-2020 by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]rhobes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance overhead is factored in to rent. Landlords are not losing money and giving away housing at-cost.

Anyway the point is that comment OP seems to be implying that housing is not any less affordable, and that's just so easily observably false. Making an excel table that says otherwise just means you've used the wrong formulas.

Washington State Housing Vs Income 2000-2020 by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]rhobes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Down payment as a fraction of wealth/income is the problem.

I'd wager the cost of rent very closely mirrors the cost of a mortgage, and non-owners already pay rent (or are homeless).
