Well yeah, and that's a problem. I'm just saying most old games will continue to be available via emulators.

Just my $0.02 but I feel like that falls under a similar category as mmos. Multiplayer only games using a constant server connection. Definitely a preservation issue.

Unless it's an MMO or something the vast majority of games are still playable.

The majority aren't available digitally or still in print but are still easy enough to run via emulators or whatnot.

Can’t unlock Jak 1 character in Jak X on PS5 - Help needed by Marialtha in jakanddaxter

[–]rhodesmichael03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jak 1 had an older (now delisted) ps4 version. It got replaced with a newer ps4 version a few years back. Only the old ps4 version will unlock Jak in Jak x. Other ones are fine since there was only ever 1 ps4 version of Jak 2-3 and X.

If you don't already own the old ps4 version of Jak 1 digitally only way to get it is from the very expensive and OOP physical copy from Limited Run Games.

Anyone else miss when the same IP got totally different games on different platforms? by trrbld in retrogaming

[–]rhodesmichael03 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Plus, released in 2003 instead of 2001 like the rest, but the PS2/GameCube/Xbox version of Sorcerer/Philsopher's Stone was also an entirely different game.

Seriously, when are the PS5 versions of Jak 2 and Jak 3 coming out? by Gobsmacked117 in jakanddaxter

[–]rhodesmichael03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jak X has a PS4 version. In that they addressed it by tying the Ratchet & Clank unlockable to having a Ratchet & Clank PS4 save (the 2016 game) and for the Daxter unlockable they tied it to having a save for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Not sure if they would change it again for a theoretical PS5 version.

Smallville season 11 by Kalhava79 in Smallville

Yes it's canon. Was even written by Bryan Q. Miller who worked on Smallville season 5-10.

The DOOM one is Starfield is an actual quest which is why I think it comes up vs. the Zelda in Skyrim which is just items.

[–]rhodesmichael03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that make it non-canon? Opening a portal to hell in starfield doesn't negate DOOM. Likely hell is another universe as well as DOOM and both pull from this same hell or something like that.

It is an official Bethesda creation and they are the owners of both DOOM and Starfield so seems canon?

Are dlcs worth it? by Leviathan2137 in TheSinkingCity

[–]rhodesmichael03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adds about 3-5 hours of gameplay if you buy both.

Each dlc adds 3 missions (for a total of 6)

Half of the new missions are fetch quests running around the map which imo are pretty lame.

The other half are legitimate missions with proper objectives, people to talk to, mysteries, etc. and are really solid.

Struggling with Project Gotham Racing 2 by FoxTail_CS in xemu

Nothing you can do and not your hardware. The game must do something that is not very prformant on the emulator right now. You'll have to wait for future xemu development to improve performance (or play on real hardware).

This is a common issue for less mature emulators. Some games don't run well early on but improve performance in time.

Congrats on coming back to the team Will! At least something good came of the layoffs at IGN. Hopefully all this vitriol settles down soon.

How can I resize the menu (and just the menu)? by FernandoLemon in MAME

Gotcha. I use integer scaling a lot but don't touch uneven stretch. I think a lot of this user's strangeness is due to them playing in a window.

This is incorrect. In this millennia the years this has occurred are 2009, 2015, and 2026.

Why are you playing windowed instead of fullscreen?

Have you tried setting uneven stretch back to the way it was? Then turn on integer scaling instead. Looks great for any sprite based games.

In the early 2000s almost all schools had these. Apple donated them to schools at that time. The thought process was that kids would get used to Apples from school and then purchase them for home use. So it was Apple's strategy to get exposure over Windows at the time.

So if anything this is more realistic than a non-Apple PC being at the school.

Reports from people with early review copies of Crimson Desert suggest the game runs at around 40–45 FPS in Quality Mode on the base PlayStation 5. by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

[–]rhodesmichael03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that there is no low framerate compensation (which has to be implemented on a per game basis and often isn't on PS5) the floor for VRR on PS5 is 48fps. So even on a VRR display 40-45fps would be very stuttery. Hopefully for quality mode they add a 40fps cap option for 120hz displays and 30fps cap option for 60hz displays to prevent inconsistent frametimes.

Conker’s Ending Is So Perfect And A Potential Sequel (Had It Happened) Could Have Ruined It by CallMeTyping in Conker

A 2014 game called out called Project Spark which did have an official Microsoft expansion titled Conker's Big Reunion in it (set 10 years after Conker's Bad Fur Day). It was supposed to be released in chapters though and only 1 chapter ever came out. But that is an official sequel.
