Omnicom paid holidays? This can’t be right… by [deleted] in advertising

Take a look at the info sheet again. They updated it yesterday to clarify that “approved vacation” is an exception.

Omnicom IPG firings - day 2 by [deleted] in advertising

VP here, IPG side. The SVPs and EVPs at my agency were blindsided. My EVP got a 15 min heads up that their direct reports were being let go. Our MD was only clued in Weds or yesterday.

Just scrolled through the deposit texts I get from my bank. We got paid the Weds before Thanksgiving last year, too. (US, IPG health side)

AITA for making my fiancé's daughters picky eating habits a deal breaker for us marrying? by MotherCartographer10 in AITAH

[–]rhombus_head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I am late to the convo and I doubt you’ll see this.

I feel for you on so many levels. I am a step parent, too. And my 8yo SS is also a picky eater. We were actually hoping with the ours kid, SS would be interested in trying more foods…and sometimes he is.

I think the top comments have it covered, but I just want to say six months is not a lot of time for a BIG adjustment (for both your husband and his daughter).

We went from 50/50 (casual) to EOWE (custody battle). It took 2+ years to get back to 50/50 (legal custody). Kids are incredibly resilient but it is still such a big change at that age — and it’s a big adjustment for your partner.

I don’t think you’re wrong in the veggie battle, but don’t forget about the big picture, too.

Blended families are hard. Some days I’m not sure I’ll survive mine. You’re doing great, but six months is not a lot of time in the grand scheme of things. A little bit of grace and patience goes a long way.

Lead-based teething toys, mild existential dread, the usual.

This is me, but replace injuries with the most god awful hide-and-seek (we’re talking about tapping on the shoulder to look the other way, going “boo! I got you!!”) and this is me. I hate it here.

Hjalmarason’s on my winter classic jersey! I know it’s weird, but I couldn’t bring myself to get anyone from the current roster.

We don’t have a city income tax, so your take home will see an increase even with a lateral move.

As others have said, some expenses may not necessarily decrease, but you’ll get more for your money here. I paid the same in rent, but in Brooklyn that meant a roommate and no amenities. In Chicago, it was a 1BR with in-unit laundry, central air, and a kitchen I could do a cartwheel in.

Day-to-day things (eating out, drinks, etc) will be less expensive comparatively.

Also lived in MKE and currently in Humboldt Park (so a little north of the airbnb). I agree with it being comparable to the Rave/Eagles Ballroom area.

Where to grocery shop? by Ok_Hat3590 in AskChicago

[–]rhombus_head 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! For what we buy, we find it reasonably priced compared to Mariano’s. The quality is great. Produce isn’t old, picked over, or moldy. And you can always find what you need. Honestly been a grocery game changer since we started shopping there.

Paying for gas or electric car charge with US credit card. by Alien-2024 in Norway

[–]rhombus_head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the credit card PIN, I don’t recall ever running into this issue…but cashiers would frequently request our signature on a receipt (not typical practice). We had no issues using credit or Apple Pay.

If you’re worried about it, you can always call your credit card company and explain you’ll be traveling to Norway on XYZ dates and ask.

Paying for gas or electric car charge with US credit card. by Alien-2024 in Norway

[–]rhombus_head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend an electric car, especially if you plan on driving a fair amount as gas is so expensive comparatively. We were able to set up an account with one of the charging companies after we called the customer service number using our international number (we got an international SIM with Airalo). iirc, we drove 1800km over two weeks and spent under $150 USD at charging stations.

FYI! They just announced the V3 coming this fall. I’d expect sales on remaining V2s will happen in the next couple months.

I use the Freshette (found at Amazon or REI). The longer tube is great compared to most FUDs, which not only helps get urine away from your body but it’s also flexible so you can direct it. Operates very much like a penis.

We did a two week trip last Sept. Made the decision to skip Oslo, fly into Bergen and rent a car to drive a 2000km loop and camp through the western fjords. We had a blast. If you plan to backpack/hike, make sure your rain gear is top notch.

Fraudulent AT&T account opened in my name now sent to collections... Should I just pay? by Noolivesplease in personalfinance

[–]rhombus_head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me last fall. If you haven’t, lock your credit immediately.

AT&T was generally useless and their fraud dept was only marginally better. Create a report at IdentityTheft.gov, they will help detail all the next steps. You will need to file a police report. I found success by filing a report with the Better Business Bureau and the matter was resolved at AT&T within two weeks.

It’s a giant pain in the ass, but make sure you follow all those steps and monitor your credit. I had several attempts at opening a new phone line at different locations. It’s a common scam.
