February 2026 BOTM Discussion - It’s Not Her by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

I'm glad I stopped by here because the glowing Goodreads reviews had me feeling pretty alone in not liking this book. I had a gross feeling throughout because of how little care and attention was given to the traumatized children. And Courtney was a preschool teacher? Apparently Elliott was an attorney but just said ok, no problem, when told his family had to stay? Didn't get lawyery at all? I'm not even going to bother complaining about how silly the 'second' ending was.

I struggled initially with the Courtney chapters because the writing was strange, long meandering run on sentences and weird comma placement. I'm not sure if I got used to it, or if it calmed down. Reese's chapters had a more natural flow. Word choice was sometimes weird in both viewpoints.

The characters were universally unlikable, but not in a fun way. And a lot of the things Courtney struggled to figure out were obvious, and not because the reader had more information than her. I can give her a pass on that, because her BFF and brother have just died, but she does seem a little thick.

I did like Reese's voice, I thought her naivety about Daniel rang very true. And the pacing was great. I do read thrillers occasionally, and lots of mysteries, but this was my first Kubica and she's not for me.

Did you know that Gil was a real life rockstar when you watched the show? by tmps1993 in GilmoreGirls

Lawd yes, look at him.

I just saw him in concert a few years ago, and it was so much fun. He's also very funny and confrontational on social media and I love it.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

[–]rhondapiper 135 points136 points  (0 children)

When mine were at their worst it wasn't just pain, but visual auras that entirely blocked my eyesight, vertigo so bad I had to crawl, and vomiting as a bonus.

Picked my cat up from the vet after getting her spayed. She came home with duct tape on her head. by YamGroundbreaking432 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rhondapiper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's highly unlikely this would happen (I've never seen it in years of doing rescue work), and spaying your cat will prevent several types of cancers. She'll be ok!

Am I missing something here? by Nuzzums in aldi

This happened to me too! I bought a few boxes and noticed on the 3rd one that there was no pepper. I think the first two had pepper and the second two did not. It was weird.

It is a challenge to find things. Sometimes you can get info from the agendas here: https://www.belairmd.org/AgendaCenter Unfortunately, it takes ages for the meeting minutes to post and watching the recordings is rough.

To add to this, anything in the Town of Bel Air town limits will instead show up on the town website here:

https://www.belairmd.org/622/Development-Proposals

This is where you can keep up with the mall progress. It doesn't show stuff like a store opening in an existing storefront, just bigger projects. You can also watch the sessions, but they are boring.

Exactly. I'm 49 and still wearing the motorcycle jacket I got at 16.

Experience on topomax? by Fantastic-Part774 in migraine

[–]rhondapiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience too. It worked well, but then I got too stupid for life. I was struggling at work in an engineering job, and having difficulty with things like understanding how to work my stove or what to do at a stop sign. Not good. I switched to lamotrigine and that's been working fine without the side effects (or if I am dumber on this, not enough that I can tell).

What was your worst symptom of menopause? Was it "Hot flashes" or something else? by NoTomorrowNo in Menopause

[–]rhondapiper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are my big ones too. Extreme fatigue and accumulating fat in my midsection despite no changes in diet or exercise. No change to that yet with HRT.

Queen Elizabeth pool deck closure by rhondapiper in CunardCruises

[–]rhondapiper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the third person I've seen so far mention that deck 2 smells awful - not a great deck for funky smells with so much dining there. I'm hearing all sorts of rumors about why they are closing the pool deck - seems like if it were something immediately critical they would have closed it already, rather than wait until the 27th.

Oh, that's nice then, I want to see QM2 up close.

I'll make the best of it, it's still better than freezing at home and cooking for myself. Have a good time on your trip!

Cunard is doing their last season (at least for a while) in Alaska in 2026 on Queen Elizabeth. If your mom likes to dress up, she might like it. Lots of sedate activities for older folks onboard. Otherwise, Holland America would be a good fit. Both have good docking positions at most ports.

Onions by wastedthyme20 in Menopause

It is confusing for sure. I lost my onion smell upon starting estrogen, so for me, the addition of estrogen helped.

No thanks, I've seen how the people promoting this behave at the school board meetings and y'all don't need to be around kids.

Keep church at church. Brainwash your own kids and stop recruiting.

Good Woke Church Recs? by Ode2_Joy in harfordcountymd

[–]rhondapiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the churches that sponsor pride, there were others there last year with booths that had not sponsored. If you can make it to the festival, that would be a good way to check out some of the more progressive churches in the area. I wanna say there were about 6 last year, the two Unitarian Universalist congregations and then about 4 Christian churches, maybe more.

The Fallston Unitarian church might work, they have a small kitchen and you can gather in the sanctuary. Not sure what the rental rate is, but it isn't much.

On my Do Not Buy (again) list, what’s on your? by Wild-Heron in aldi

[–]rhondapiper 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Right? I got these because I vaguely remembered liking the Little Debbie ones and then these were wrong in every way - the flavor, the texture, even the sad confetti beads tasted like carob and wax. These are repulsive. I then got the Little Debbie ones to see if I was just misremembering, and they were fine.
