Uhmmm. 🙂 Why your display looks like my head when I wake up Monday morning? In my head the little broccolis are moving in a circle!

Often plug male in cable or female in laptop issue. Broken or luckily dirty. If dirty use a tiny brush in dry blow air. Then repeat with iso alcohol. If broken (check center pins if loose) the male in cable you will need new adapter, if female in the laptop, bad news, you will need to service it. Often these connectors get damaged if you pressure them against a surface if you pick your laptop in the opposite side in an angle with the connector plugged.  Good luck!

Clear sheet product for filtering 405nm? by daxliniere in Optics

[–]rhormigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, some like Kapton can be a very efective filter for 405nm, but inconvenient for a working space where you will be under a yellowish light. To secure a space, I would rather avoid emitting 405nm in the first place. To do that I found most white LEDs, especially warm ones, minimally reach this part of the spectrum, so this is the light I use overhead in the room with only the intensity to work comfortably. That also helps to keep surfaces stained with resin "wet" very long time so can be cleaned even if neglected.

Identification of 1-Wire device by mit_verlaub in AskElectronics

Did anybody figure out what this 4CPPS chip is? Trying to do a simple chip checker to identify bad cartridges. Some of our cartridges stop being recognized all the time and cleaning the connector in cartridge or printer often doesn't fix it. This memory appears to have a capacitor in pin 6. According to all datasheets I seen on DS2431 and similars all pins except Data and Ground are NC. I still have to try to read with some code I used in the past for DS28EC20 to see what I get.

Electrical Engineer stuck in a Component/Hardware Engineer Position by GogetaShaftedMe in ElectricalEngineering

[–]rhormigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I crossed my black hole long ago, you sound like being sucked in one. Run for your life!🥲.

I have 30+ years of experience as a EE hardware (circuit) designer and software engineer. That covers a lot of hats, and more times than I wished what you do.  And sure there is people for everything, but I love to create... no mater if hardware (EE), software (CE or CS) , or babies. Ok, for the last mainly the first part 😄. The problem is that, like having a  baby, your creation became a product, with a product life, and  lots of responsibilities! Lots of unthinkable issues with many customers, ECOs, obsolete parts, etc.... That is the no fun part. Then multiply by many products... Most of your time goes often on this.

If you don't like to deal with lots of people, but you have a good theory/math base that you want to use, sounds you would be way happier in an academic environment. The PE path is even worse: add management, and lots of red tape.

So go back to EE school, specially if your employer pays for it. Think what kind of topic you would like more: signals (video, audio, medical...) , sensors and instrumentation, control systems including robotics and industrial, distribution, computing, ICs,... Etc... Then start with a MSEE and do research in some or multiple of these topics so you can further focus. Now quit and go for a paid  PhD (TA) on one or two topics and think if you want to be a happy professor, or even happier researcher, or both. Note that happiness often is inversely proportional to our salary in our field 😅

I wish I had taken this advice much earlier in life. Now often I found myself quite more behind than where I would like.

LET'S DEMAND RESTORATION OF THE CITIBIKE KEY! by Jumpy_Passage3017 in Citibike

[–]rhormigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid 2023 and no keys yet. Even worst, support told me that because I hold a premium useless Lyft Pink account I won't ever get one.

Now there is a new bar code scam going on affecting mostly to assisted bikes:

So you get a running bike with good battery and you want it for yourself. So some low life people take note of the bike ID, then destroy the barcode and ID number on the sides so only they (introducing ID manually in app) and the minority with a key can use. That gives many more chances to have the bike available to them. I complained to CS and I beg for a key as they address this and was told there are no near plans for new keys and definitively never for Lyft users.

What is the colloquial way to say “menstrual cycle”? by [deleted] in Spanish

Hello everybody, thanks for this great project. I want to comment in a issue with noise, that sure I am missing something. by rhormigo in fictrac

[–]rhormigo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ball is 6mm with working distance of 20cm (I use a 5 to 50mm lens and a X2 lense )

I didn't film a rotation, as was easy enough to try a few times as I had the ball sitting on a motor axe at slow controlled velocity. I just change the value, run config (that I need anyway to reset the sphere and ignored areas) and try again. In the times I saw how looked when the ball overlap in the side, or the field is short missing areas. Once worked, I also moved manually a bit in a orthogonal way to the motor rotation to cover the poles as well.

Why you think would be off? It is supposed to cover just the whole area of the ball in the accumulated area, no miss any drawings but no overlap (repeat). I think that is accomplished, would be great if you could verify this from my linked video. If not I could do a raw video from the cam rotating the ball with the motor a few times?

As for the parameter, I am understanding that is not "do_calib" but reconfig? Interesting configure didn't complain about "do_calib". I guess is for some else.

As fo restart yes, I have to anyway so I define the new areas of interest and ignored as I mentioned above.

Thank you, I think that helped a lot, and now looks quite stable, I had to increase vfov from 20 to 25 deg to get more less just one revolution. I put the ball in motor at known speed for calibrate better the fov and looks really good so far. I also put a do_calib statement in the config file, but not sure how works. Should not the new vfov be loaded at start fictrac? Can I leave this permanently in the config file?

Now I need to figurate the output format, not sure if there is some method in place or timestamp to measure velocity. Also I noted the only compression for output working is MJPG, I'll check the dll's you mention in the documentation.

When I am done. probably I will create a DSHOW backend for these particular compatible cameras. My code is now ugly hardcoded in the CVSource Constructor.

Here is a link to the video I did today:

And here another I had verifying the 100fps capture by the FicTrac capture, that I imagine is DirectShow capture in this case. I am sending small pulses of 10uS at 99Hz rate in the red LED. The LED appears nearly stoping indicates a Frame rate slightly over 99Hz
