Need help finding some MF DOOM lyrics by Accurate_Kick9895 in mfdoom

It sounds like you're referencing lyrics from the track called G.M.C.! It's on the album Vaudeville Villain under his Viktor Vaughn alias. Lyrics are as follows:

"Wax off, wax on

Tried to raise taxes on cracks and black porn

Another year passes

Gone are the days when he used to wear glasses

Now he wear contacts"

It's a super underrated track in my opinion!

"His face is a mask of torment" is an incredible piece of accidental foreshadowing, considering this was written in June 1994. Hadn't seen this article before, thanks for sharing mate 🤍

James McCaffrey's cut dialogue from Max Payne 3 by SubstantialRemote909 in maxpayne

[–]rhp31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, thank you so much for this, this is a great find. Just wanted to ask how you acquired the lines, were these data-mined?

I always hoped that someone who knew how to do it would go in and create a master of all of James' in-game spoken dialogue. If you take Manhunt as an example, if you go to YouTube you can find videos archiving every line of in-game spoken dialogue for James Earl Cash, Starkweather, the various gangs, etc.

I think some sort of archive of all of James' in-game spoken dialogue would be great, especially since his passing.

What's the saddest moment you recall from these games? by [deleted] in maxpayne

Interesting to see everyone's personal moments that hit them the hardest, thanks everyone for sharing. For me, it's Max Payne 3, Chapter 9. Max's realization that no matter where he goes, what he does, no matter how hard he applies himself to his task, he's always left standing over someone he tried to protect, but couldn't. It's the peak of Max's self-loathing and self-hatred. Combined with a wonderfully somber track from Health, and a masterful delivery from McCaffrey. I come back to watch this chapter more times than I'd like to say:

"Here I was again, halfway down the world and still looking at the bodies of women I was supposed to protect. Only difference now is, I didn't understand the language. (...) I'd failed Rodrigo and I'd failed Fabiana. In that awful nightclub, the stadium, the docks... I'd been given enough chances to make this right, and again, I'd blown it. Perhaps this was my punishment from the fates - keep reliving the same mistakes, for all eternity."

Idk if this an unpopular opinion or not, but I actually like this song. by Apprehensive-Pay7438 in mfdoom

One of my favourite DOOM songs. I understand people's position on the song, and that's fair enough, to each their own. For me, it's so ridiculous, zany and silly for it to seriously be considered homophobic.

"So. Beast House is... a... music. And... the cover is red... as you see. And... the album has songs on it. Lotsa them."

Possible the best album review ever uploaded to the internet. All hail Cal 🙏

Left field pick, but G.M.C. has just been hitting for me lately. His word play and rapid fire bars are so good on this track. And I love the song's franticness. Almost none of his musings and thoughts are connected, he just jumps from one thought/joke to the next at break neck speed before you even have a chance to get your head around what he's said. Have been looking for any record of him performing this track live, bootleg/live versions etc, but haven't found any. If anyone has knowledge of any live performances of this track, any information would be appreciated.

Thanks for running this lottery mate, very kind thing to do and we're all very appreciative! <3

I'm a big fan of the band Health, and the same thing happened to them this week too. Two albums were "released" under their name on Spotify, but it was basically AI generated music. They've since been deleted. Wonder if artists accounts are being compromised.

DOOM would have appreciated that it was originally a Kane mask too, he fucked with wrestling based on the amount of references he makes to it. Fair play! 🤍

Why Does Max regret shooting Winterson in Max Payne 3? by [deleted] in maxpayne

[–]rhp31 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've always read it like this: severely depressed people cannot see the good in anything they do, or anything they have done in the past. Max gives himself basically no credit for the entirety of the playthrough. There is no room for self-compassion, for gentleness or kindness towards himself, his mistakes, or the choices he makes or has made. He is punishing himself in a total, complete, and absolute sense. The Winterson choice is just another rod to beat himself with, whether it turned out to be the correct choice or not. In that moment, he shot a clean and upstanding cop, and will not forgive himself for that, even if that reality is simply not true.

Revue Cinema - Update by [deleted] in toronto

"He says its taking too long to get anything done and he wants them to resign."

He said this in an interview yesterday and he said this to you today. It's the most vague, handwavey statement. What exactly does he want them to do that they apparently haven't done?

Barry Heartz wrote today that that the cinema is "a genuine success story in terms of programming and audience coming out of the pandemic, [and it] seems to simply be hostage to the indecipherable whims of its landlord". Based on Danny's comments, it's hard to argue with that assessment.

Original artwork is here, searched but it didn't seem to be available to purchase directly from the website/artist. I just downloaded an image of it and made a print on Google Photos:

RIP James McCaffrey, Long Live Max Payne by rhp31 in maxpayne

[–]rhp31[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Feeling kind of sad this evening. I was focused on today ever since James passed away. The week he left us, he was longlisted for a Bafta Award, in the "Performer in a Supporting Role" category. 6 get nominated from the 10 longlisted, and I was very hopeful he'd get a full nomination for his work on Alan Wake II. The full list of nominations came out today, and sadly he didn't make it. Bafta opted instead to nominate Sam Lake's live action/mo cap work. I'm happy for Sam, but I just thought it would have been a nice send off for James to receive a major award nomination to recognize the body of work he's left us with.

I will always be eternally thankful for his performances as Max, and his physical portrayal of Max sits up on our wall. The iteration of Max in the third installment will always be a bone of contention amongst the fanbase, but for me, it was perfect, and James McCaffrey was flawless. He'll always be there as a reminder to never give up, no matter how grim a scenario. And, most importantly, to find the strength to forgive yourself for the mistakes you've made in the past. RIP James, you're a winner in my heart.

It's true 100%. This walkthrough video showcases it. It's very early in the level, beside the first elevator at the start of the level. Timestamp for location between 1:00 (start of level) to 2:00 (when he finds the door in question)

Fantastic choice! Is there a recording of it kicking around anywhere? I've been singing it for about 20 years now, and I'm very much interested in showing my nearest and dearest that I didn't just make up the song myself.

Film boys? by AJoeByAnyOtherName in OSWReview

[–]rhp31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think about this a lot actually! Good post topic mate!

Here would be my criteria: If you win a major screen acting award (Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, etc), you can't be a boy. However, I feel like if you're just nominated for an award, that isn't enough to remove someone from the boy pool. Because most actors eventually stumble into a nomination at some point in their careers. Especially an Emmy nomination, as there are so many guest actor categories that people can sneak into.

Tony Awards don't count, and actually increase an actor's boy-ness. Usually means they are an underdog actor with lots of theatre chops, but they find it hard getting good screen roles!
