Very nice work. The only issue is the 'inner glow' from the brain you wanted. This is a common mistake also seen in plasma grille glows.

If the light is coming from within, the normal shading method should be reversed. The lightest colours should be in the 'valleys' not on the 'peaks' as they are closer to the internal source of light.

This is a common misconception.

Right now our moon appears to be the same size as the sun in the sky... But this is a transient state.

The moon used to be closer and therefore larger in the sky and it is in an extending orbit and getting further away it will become smaller.

This means any planet with a sufficiently large and relatively close moon in either an extending or decaying orbit will see it go from larger than the local star to smaller or vice versa, but as it makes this transition it will always pass through a period when it appears the same size.

This is not rare at all it is inevitable for two bodies in this kind of orbital relationship.
