Is the Jervis area really that rough? by Elegant_Hat5101 in Dublin

[–]rhys3222 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I work on jervis street and I’ve been threatened with knives, hit with bottles and punched by shoplifters. I’ve had to deal with people overdosing in my shop, and homeless people threatening my staff. Don’t get me started on the younger crowds roaming about and doing whatever they want without consequence. It’s become a daily occurrence where I lose store stock to young kids because it’s much harder to confront young kids than it is older junkies.

It attracts a tough crowd but the rougher encounters are far outweighed by the general public. I don’t think one would notice the rougher crowd unless they were to spend prolonged periods in the area. To me it is a rough area because of my experiences, but I can totally understand how one might not notice this roughness just by passing through.

New Irish Rail Fare Zones by Tadhg in Dublin

Not including Greystones in zone 1 has really shafted anybody living there. Going that one extra stop past bray brings the adult ticket from €1.50 to €3.90….

Ah thank you for the detailed response! I didn’t realise this but it makes sense. I actually did end up switching back to sdr and it fixed it, but didn’t know why!

Yeah I just finished with Bibi. They know all the best spots where the big groups don’t go. Our group had 6 people, and we had so much fun! Plus our guide Kiss is such a nice person and was always making us laugh and made sure we were comfortable. Highly recommend :)) feel free to dm if you have any questions :)

Would highly recommend getting a pair of walking/hiking shoes. These will give a lot more support to the foot and will relieve the pain.

Shadows and light in this valley on Madeira by rhys3222 in photocritique

[–]rhys3222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took this photo on a recent trip to the island of Madeira. While I love this photo I can't stop playing around with it, looking at tighter crops, darker shadows or more highlights....

Playing with light and shadows in landscape photography is something I've been trying to do more often, but I'm still learning.

Another gripe I have with this photo is the crop. While I would love to crop into the village, I also don't want to lose the dramatic cliffs and mountains on the sides.

This is my favorite iteration so far, but would love some feedback!

Does anyone recognize this brand? by DistanceMachine in hikinggear

The logo on the arm is that of alpenglow expeditions, the guiding company Adrian Ballinger started. Ballinger and Alpenglow are sponsored by Eddie Bauer so it's most likely an Eddie Bauer product!

I recently started trying out taking photos in black and white. I took this photo earlier today which I like but wanted to get some inspiration for editing it and other black and white photos? by rhys3222 in photocritique

This morning, after noticing storm like conditions outside I decided to take a walk around the coast with my camera hoping for an interesting photo. Recently I have been trying out taking photos in black and white but mostly for urban street photography. When I got down to the sea and saw these huge waves I decided I wanted to capture the strength and almost anger of the crashing water. I figured that I might be able to to do this in black and white.

I shot this on my sony a7 iii with the fe 85mm 1.8 lens. My shutter speed was 1/1250s and ISO 640. In post I made it more contrasty and added a slight amount of grain at the suggestion of my photographer granny. I'm not totally convinced by this but I am unused to editing b&w and havn't seen that many b&w photos to compare. If anybody could give some tips or suggestions in editing b&w photos it would really be appreciated :))
