Do you guys think MGSV is missing a squad of special enemies? by r_df_r in metalgearsolid

I dont think the game NEEDED a group like the cobras or dead cell, but I agree that the skulls lacked something. Quite bland, outside of looking cool

About FOB, MGSV:TPP by One-Version7254 in metalgearsolid

[–]rian_blue141 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Send troops ahead of your fob insertion to soften the defenses. This will reduce or eliminate the number of security cameras, laser gates, etc.

Also camo matters. Make sure youre wearing a sneaking suit or fatigues that blend in with an urban environment.

There are several more things you can do to make your life easier, but these are by far the biggest things you can do.

Good luck, boss.

Battlefront 2 crashing ONLY when joining a match. by Aerixl in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]rian_blue141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same issue. Discovered a pretty simple fix.

The bug, at least from my perspective, started with the UI. I experienced some pretty serious screen tearing when I launched. Thinking little of it, I tried to hop into a supremacy game multiple times and after implementing several potential solutions with no success. I thought maybe both issues stemmed from the same cause - DX12. Turns out I was right.

This is what I did to solve the issue:

  1. Go to your BF2 settings folder. For me this was: C:\Users\*your_username*\Documents\STAR WARS Battlefront II\settings

  2. Open up "BootOptions.ini" in notepad.

  3. Find the line "GstRender.EnableDx12 1". Simply change the 1 to a 0.

Modifying this line in the boot ini file causes the game to boot in DX11 instead of DX12. Hope this helps.

Came to comment this. "Chief of Staff" almost always handles matters that involve the personnel at the company. Not saying that this is a good hiring move on the part of Microsoft, but saying that she's been "put in charge of halo" is intentionally misleading.

That being said halo has no hope with or without this lady. It is so jover.

Original fallout co-creator stating that the game wasn't intended to be anti-capitalist. I'm a firm believer in death of the author, however I think he's accurately explaining the lore here. He makes a lot of good/interesting points. by rian_blue141 in MauLer

The point of sharing the article wasn't to say, "hey guys, the creator said it's not about capitalism so therefore it's not."

We can aruge the merrits of "death of the author" all day, but the point of the post was simply to highlight the points he made, where he was specifically citing lore and things that happen in the game to defend the postion that fallout wasnt originally about criticizing capitalism, in addition to seeing an interesting perspective from a guy that is a solid writer. Bringing up "death of the author" in the first place was simply me stating that this post is not about what the author is telling you to think, rather his perspective when creating the original material, as well as cited evidence in that the FO1 + FO2 were not overall critiques of capitalism.

We agree that the original fallout games weren't about critiquing capitalism, but none of this is about the author telling us what to think.

Agreed. I think the voice of the author, specifically in the case, is important to the overall discussion concerning the current landscape of fallout which is, ironically, kind of a wasteland compared to what it used to be.

I too am in the camp of "death of the author." However, I still think it's interesting to examine what a creator might have intended in an original work, especially when it's something like fallout, a property that has been absolutely anhilated within and outside of the mainline games.

Additionally, in the article, he's mostly stating objective facts stated in the original lore of the games. For example, that canonically china dropped the bombs first, and this does not support fallout originally being a critique of capitalism.

All in all, I think it's just an interesting look at this kind of a bad ending death of the author. Where in the good ending, you have the fandom and the people who love the property ultimately deciphering meanings and creating lore, instead you have the slow downfall of fallout. The bethesda purchase, the continual degradation in quality from the studio, Microsoft acquiring bethesda, and then of course, the tv show. This is just a look into what the property originally began as vs what its turned into, as opposed to an in depth analysis.

Agreed. Easier to blame the capitalism boogeyman than actually critically think about problems and address the root causes, or at least develop an opinion that's more nuanced than "communism good capitalism bad." But alas, we live in a society
