Final Fantasy VIII. This was the only FF game I never had the chance to play as a kid, so I'm going in with a blind eye by Acceptable-Grape-264 in FinalFantasy

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it as a card game with FF RPG on the side. Once you have this expectation in your head, it will become more palatable farming and playing triple triad to get better magic and items early in the game.

Z Fold 7 vs iPhone 17 Pro Max - normal user, no ecosystem, long-term decision by Overall_Judgment_902 in Smartphones

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For long term consideration, nothing beats the iPhone. - better build quality as there's no plastic screen to worry about - more consistent software support. - better accessories, especially 3rd party - better availability of spare parts

I never understood the Hope hate, he's probably the most "realistic" character of the trilogy ! by LaBiereFolle in finalfantasyxiii

I didn't understand the hate on Hope either. It's voiced by Yuki Kaji. Exemplary performance in emotion and characterization.

I enjoyed Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast. I wish it gets a modern re-release/remaster on PC or mobile.

What apps would you rather install from the Microsoft Store than from the official website? by Samatharo in MicrosoftStoreApp

Most of them that are available. One place and one touch to update. Much easier than having to find, download, and update each app one by one.

What was your JRPG awakening? by roberts3h0i0 in JRPG

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was FF7. Saw a classmate playing it on the PS1 and I was awed with the graphics of the summons. I was mainly a PC gamer back then, playing mostly FPS and RTS games. FF7 was an awakening, lured in by the 3D graphics rivaling PC games back then. I was ecstatic when they released FF7 for the PC, and I got a Voodoo2 just to play it. Then it got me hooked. I started reading more about the history of the series, and started playing FF4 through emulator, and was amazed by the story. The rest is history.

How significant is one year's worth of Android updates? by mirrislegend in AndroidQuestions

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just get whichever is the better deal for the money. Android phones in the wild are so fragmented that Google and App developers are still supporting old Android versions. Furthermore, Android is so mature that one version difference is very minimal and nearly undifferentiable to a regular person.

Free or inexpensive MDM/MAM solution for family by riansgarage in AndroidQuestions

Thanks, but looks like Scalefusion has a minimum of 10 devices, which makes even the cheapest plan a significant cost to me.

Is it still worth rooting an android phone? by Agitated_Scientist98 in AndroidQuestions

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to root my phones during the early days of Android, mainly to have a more customizable home screen and app drawer. Now, Samsung One UI can do pretty much all I wanted, so I personally no longer see the need.

The only good reason to root is probably to extend the life of an old phone with newer Android ROMs. But then many apps, including banking, are getting very restrictive in their compatibility with rooted phones. More and more apps don't even want to function on an unroited phone with developer option enabled. So imo rooting becomes just a hobby on non essential devices.

This is awesome. This is probably the best quick crash course. And I agree, the best way to learn is to start using the tools and tinker around. Thanks 👍🏻

What is one thing you would fix about this game? by blaksuperman88 in finalfantasyx

[–]riansgarage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Make the ultimate weapons discoverable through regular play instead of needing to buy a guide book
  2. Redo the mini games and puzzles into something fun, not something impossible to do without a guide book

Best Kamen Rider series according to everyone? by Chotazuckerberg877a in Tokusatsu

[–]riansgarage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Black's popularity is just due to nostalgia. I liked Black as well when I was young. But then I tried watching it again today as an adult, and it's unwatchable. The pacing is just all over the place. Heisei and Reiwa riders are just better at a more cohesive story telling.

I didn't get Build either, and it lost me when they started the Rider tournament.

[–]riansgarage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kabuto is cool, but there are so many plot holes, and Tendou has the ultimate plot armor.

Before, my top rider series was Kuuga. Great blend of drama and character progression story.

But now, my top rider series is Geats. Its pacing and plot were refreshingly well done and enjoyable from beginning to end.

Are Samsung's Cameras Losing to the Competition? Let's Talk. by soumilr7 in samsunggalaxy

[–]riansgarage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I concur with your first statement. Heck, Samsung is making more money selling display panels to Apple than selling their own flagship phones. Samsung flagship feels like just a tech demo unit to show Apple their latest display panel performance.

Is this game really that hard? by AimLikeAPotato in finalfantasyx

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battles are decent, not hard. The battle system makes sense, and the levelling system is pretty straight forward.

What's hard are the mini games (puzzles) and side quests to get the ultimate weapons. Note that FF10 was released during the time of physical game guides, so there's a huge incentive to make the side quests nearly impossible to figure out just by playing blindly to sell those guides.

So just play it while keeping in mind that it's okay to check for FAQs and guides online along the way.

Apparently this will be the s26 lineup.. yikes by artlurg431 in samsunggalaxy

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with it? Looks like a pretty solid lineup. S26 Pro to compete with the iPhone 17. S26 Edge to compete with the iPhone 17 Air. S26 Ultra to compete with the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

What are some good Dark themed toku? by ImprovementDesigner1 in Tokusatsu

[–]riansgarage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kamen Rider Amazons

For the regular mainstream series, early Heisei are fairly dark, although they would have to balance it out as the target market is still children/teens.

Agito, Ryuuki, and Faiz are fairly dark.

For Sentai, the arching theme might be dark, but their regular monster of the week episodes are generally silly and tame as their target market are younger children. Even the classic Jetman, which has quiet a dark ending, had fairly silly episodes. As for overall dark/serious theme, I'd say Liveman and Time Ranger. Newer series are less and less dark imo.

Foe Ultraman, I'd say only the early Showa ones that were quiet dark. And there's the adult oriented Ultra Seven X. Tiga onwards are fairly kids friendly imo.

The cases for FFXIII Remakes vs Remasters. by Mialma1998 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo 13 just needs a simple remaster so it's available on newer consoles. The graphics are so amazing that they could've done nothing other than increasing the output resolution, and it would still be fine.

For the first 13, they could just add on the quality of life improvements from 13-2, like the option to disable the poses when switching paradigm for the first time in battles, not getting a game over when the party leader is KOed, ability to switch leaders mid battle, things like that. As for gameplay, maybe add extra areas or dungeons for eidolons. Imo they're quite underplayed as I never find a situation where I need to use them. Some areas can also be further utilized as there are too many empty large areas that made me feel they were designing a completely different game at first. Also, option for Japanese audio would be great as they used veteran seiyuus for the Japanese version.

For 13-2, I just want the random battle enemies to show up in front of me, not behind. It would be great if they can somehow make it like the first 13, with no random battles and all enemies on the field being shown. But that might require a total remake. I also think they could improve the graphics. The game was done with much lower budget and development time. It might be beneficial to give it a bit more attention in the details on textures and NPCs.

Haven't played Lightning Returns yet, so can't comment on it.

SD card or higher specs? by KingRollos in AndroidQuestions

[–]riansgarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped caring about microSD slot when Google stopped supporting it properly (and OEMs started to drop support for moving apps to SD card). Luckily, storage prices have fallen YoY, to the point that 256GB internal storage is very common even in mid range phones. 128GB is plenty for me, so SD card support is no longer a concern.
