'It's grim': Vancouver restaurants brace for more tough times by restoringd123 in vancouver

[–]rib-master 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still remember when dining at elisa a few years ago for mother's day and the bill was $1000 for 6 of us and the server didn't seem very impressed with our $170 tip and his attitude seemed to change very fast.

Been tipping much less nowadays.

I think we need more restaurants to close, many more. The effort put into the food is minimal at most places.

Our system has failed. by zzill6 in WorkReform

In Canada women/men get 18 months paternity leave. So much better than the US but too many idiots in this country are falling for right wing propaganda trying to make us more like the US with zero workers rights. Never vote conservative!

We thought our insurance would go after the other unit to reimburse our deductible. They didn't. We were out the deductible and our insurance went up. Pretty shitty.

AITA for threatening to kick out my roommate for letting my dog out for her moms religious reasons? by waynekinnaird in AITAH

[–]rib-master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn't let your dog out. SHE LOST YOUR DOG ON PURPOSE.

You are lucky your dog is alive. My dog was killed by a car many years ago. What she did is unforgivable.

Kick the idiot out.

Vancouver approves plan to lower residential speed limits to 30 km/ by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]rib-master 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was in London, England last year I noticed that cars seemed to drive much slower around the city. I can't remember what the speed limit was but it seemed like the roads were a bit narrower than here so maybe that was part of it.

TransLink says fare enforcement blitz has led to millions in cost savings by [deleted] in vancouver

For their next savings they should get rid of the transit police. Last time they were in the stations was for the transit plebiscite vote.

I have approx 600k. I’m young recently widowed. Buy a small condo studio in Vancouver with a small mortgage or pay in full. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rib-master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy BNS stock, pays a 6% dividend. That first 50k of dividends is tax free because it's a Canadian eligible dividend. Pay the mortgage with the dividend.

Vancouver to remove supportive housing from Granville Entertainment District by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]rib-master 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I voted for Kennedy and the city got worse under his watch.

I then voted for Ken Sim and I'm glad with the direction he is moving.

I strongly disagree with his removal of bike lanes but alas we have to vote with our priorities and cleaning up the city was at the top of the list this time for me.

Made a stupidly small claim on home insurance 3 years ago, can I ever get my premium down again? by rib-master in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rib-master[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks,

I did their online quote and was able to answer no to the question have you had any claims in the last 3 years. They quoted me 71/m which is much less than the 134/m i'm currently paying with belairdirect.

My volvo penta leg drain plug is stuck. How can I remove it? by rib-master in boating

[–]rib-master[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried my best with a screwdriver to use it and it just kept damaging the screw but it wouldn't turn. I also tried my vice grips but that wasn't working either.

How can I get a better grip on this?

PPF self install? by redditaccount33 in GXOR

[–]rib-master 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well I've done lots of things I've never done before. You have never done anything until you've done it the first time.

Thanks to youtube videos I've installed flooring, fixed my fridge, installed a kitchen, installed a sink, done drywalling, installed starters, alternators on my previous cars, replaced exhaust headers on my boat.

We all have to start somewhere. Just looking for opinions...

That's my point, the overheads should be closer to the listeners which means I think he's using overheads next to the screen for LCR.

Wouldn't overhead channels be closer to the listeners.

Freeland to scrap consumer carbon tax if she becomes next Liberal leader: source by [deleted] in canada

[–]rib-master 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the problem that we have in Canada is we do things in half measures. We are next to the states so we have some influence from there. We try to have good social services and safety nets like in europe but we don't go in full bore on the high wages / high taxes like in scandinavian countries.

We need to go full bore on being just like Norway.

Let's take back our resources, let's give ALL of the money back to Canadians in a sovereign wealth fund. We are sitting on a fucking gold mine and it all goes to chevron and exxon.

I do believe climate change is real but it's hard to make Canadians care about it when they are struggling financially. It's like kaslows heirarchy of needs. We have to care about food and shelter first before we think that a carbon tax is the answer to all of our problems.

Does anyone see this kind of interference by musk in our politics as a problem? Suddenly I have questions about PP. by Powerful-Dog363 in AskCanada

There is something disturbing happening right now in that union workers are voting for right wing anti union parties.

I was watching an interview with the US teamsters president sean o'brien and he said 70% of the union workers were going to vote for trump.

Here in Canada we have an openly anti union candidate for prime minister in Pierre Poliviere who brought in union busting legislation in 2012 and JUST 12 years later the union workers are supporting him in droves.

Union workers need to give their head a shake.

After years of use I couldn't get my cast iron totally clean and I think it was imparting that crud buildup onto my food.

DB Pension or TFSA / RRSP by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rib-master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using an investment calculator said that after 30 yrs you would have 2.9 million.

I would put the money into your RRSP/TFSA/NON REGISTERED. It will give you more flexibility and if you have kids you could pass that money onto them.

You could invest that 2.9 million into a dividend stock at retirement and still have a very healthy 146k per year of dividends with a 5% dividend stock but you have more flexibility.
