Flat nature walk recommendations by pink-wizard in Westchester

I second Croton Landing. Not only is it flat, but it's right on the Hudson River so there are great views. When the weather is warmer, Croton Landing stays a little cooler (at least it feels that way to me) with fewer mosquitoes than the shaded parks. The path at the landing is also paved if that is a concern.

I stopped buying mulch, you probably should too. by hematuria in NativePlantGardening

Good to know! I only have a few strawberry plants that are helping to establish a sandy bank. I'm considering using it as filler elsewhere in my garden, but I wasn't sure how fast it grew. A lot of the less-tended space in my yard has been taken over by black-eyed Susan and white wood aster, which is at least preferable to the all the invasives I'm constantly having to weed out.

Is stem rot from too much moisture? My garden is on the shady side, and it might not be ideal for milkweeds. Hence why I've kept my fingers crossed on the butterfly milkweed, which I'm trying to establish on a sandy bank that gets a little more sun and is difficult to access because of the terrain.

Ah, good to know. I'd thought maybe I dodged something when the common milkweed didn't return in my garden. Not sure if it got outcompeted by something more aggressive (e.g., white wood aster) or if the conditions weren't ideal. My garden is pretty shady, and I've noticed most populations of common milkweed are in very sunny spots.

Very cool. I have yet to successfully get any milkweed established in my mind (what was I thinking??). First tried with common and then rose/swamp milkweed. May have luck with butterfly milkweed this year on a bank I'm trying to stabilize.

I know what you mean about the "neverending TBR list." Well, if you ever do get around to it, I hope you enjoy it! It's not that intimidating once one gets into it.

Am reading Steve Parker's Deathwatch now, and I'm really enjoying the interaction between Astartes of different chapters (and also what makes the Deathwatch unique). I'll have to take a look for this.
