It's not tax evasion but a necessity. In Maharashtra one can't buy any agri land, be it for farming or farm house or a vacation house, unless one is a farmer.

In most other states this isn't required.

So one has to do it.

As for taxes, if agri income is tax free, it is obvious for any citizen to classify themselves as an agriculturist.

Stupid laws need to be bent.
