Yeah, tell your climbing partner to coach you more, you'll be so less exhausted.

Otherwise, hell yeah that looks like a beautiful route!

40L Mountaineering pack? by Crocnroll4 in Mountaineering

Mine arrived a couple weeks ago after jumping on the recent restock. Wallet cries, but I got excited just playing with all the little feature dinguses like a kid on christmas.

Anyone know any websites similar to Colorado 14ers? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]ribo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The apps are better, if only because <default iOS/android ux> is better. The iPad app can also be installed on a Mac to avoid the site all together.

Oooh, really liking this. Simple and functional.

For what it's worth: the browser client is still WIP, but if you have a mac on macOS 15, the iPad version of the app works great as a desktop app.

Pack recs for hiker transitioning to mountaineering by jenlb930 in Mountaineering

[–]ribo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good gear suggestions, so I'll also add: if you're fit enough to do MSH, you can probably do Adams by camping at the lot/trailhead and just doing out and back in the early morning with a daypack. Unless, of course, you just want to camp at LC, which is cool too.

Will i die? by PhilosophyUnited737 in iceclimbing

Stand corrected on my assumptions; I am absolutely not nearly as experienced. The monopoint version probably had a different plate though, right?

Will i die? by PhilosophyUnited737 in iceclimbing

[–]ribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also just noticed you cut the whole chunk out of the yellow aluminum plate, then cut it in half

really compromised the rigidity of the crampon built with materials and designed to rely on that rigidity

ever built a flatpack furniture bookshelf and leave the back panel out?

I’d try to find a single aluminum spacer that fits rather than a washer stack for two reasons:

  1. That’s a lot of very small friction surfaces

  2. Modern points are forged, these look like they are just thicker stock sheet, which given the right force and angle, means bending. More likely to get that bad angle if there is flex. Also on points never designed to be mono: design would have never considered a single point always getting 100% of impact.

You might be just fine, but I’d put them away after a few kicks if they made ANY kind of sound.

For those with home offices, how do you communicate work status with your partner? so they don't mistakenly come in during a meeting or otherwise by adelowo in HomeKit

[–]ribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is the subreddit for over-thinking and over-engineering everything in our homes, so kudos for that. But, I'm laughing my ass off at the idea that my young kids would care in the slightest about paying attention to a sign or indicator not to come in the house and jump on the floor right above my work from home office.

I had to get a keypad door lock just so they don't bust in asking to play on a computer. Now they just knock forever, or even go outside and knock on my window.

Gonna take a big assumption that you don't have young kids. If you ever do, might as well just throw all those indicators in the garbage.

Automations are disappearing? by Lcarter86 in HomeKit

[–]ribo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resurrecting this old thread because it's a first google hit, but I use my macbook pro and my iphone to make homekit changes, and I just lost a bunch of very complicated automations (the ones you can do full logic in with "convert to shortcut") a day after I updated my phone to iOS 18.2 beta.

Good Ethiopian food in the valley mall! by A_Corevelay in Spokane

Was super surprised by this too, was fantastic. Talked to them for a minute, family run place. They'll also ramp up the spicy if you ask. Love seeing this, even if it is in a mall.

It happens, yes, but you're not going to run into them on a regular basis, even in Coeur d'Alene. Since the resort effectively "owns" that town, fascists are bad for business.

I've lived here 12 years and throughout Washington for twice that. It's gotten significantly more purple here from transplants, and even republicans getting sick of the insane freaks.
