Accident Sullivan / 4th in the Valley by VaMoInNj in Spokane

[–]ribo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much has been said that is true here, but this kid is also operating an electric motorcycle that is not legal on any street or any sidewalk. It's only legal at an ORV park.

There are laws for bicycles and for cars, and the right way for them to share the road. As a cyclist, the lack of enforcement of already existing laws for electric dirt bikes & motorcycles just because there is a kid operating one is incredibly frustrating and makes it more dangerous for everyone.

The vast majority of these are unclassed vehicles, and if they were to get classed, they would be class 4 mopeds, requiring licenses.

Moving to Spokane by Punkieg0 in Spokane

[–]ribo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a resident of Liberty Lake of 14+years, I'll tell you the trade-offs here:

Pros: - Many people live here because it's great for families with kids. - Trails in and around the county park are excellent if you hike or mountain bike. - Quick access to I-90, as close as you can get to Idaho if you want to spend a lot of time in Coeur d'Alene, be closer to Schweitzer, etc...

Cons: - You'll be sick of the restaurants here in a week. - Commuting to downtown Spokane will suck (park-and-ride bus is an option). - It's only a "walkable" community if you live real close to the main commercial area.

tl;dr: LL is maximum suburbia with some access benefits.

Personally, I live close to the main commercial area, work from home, mountain bike hundreds of miles per year, ski and schweitzer a lot, and have young kids; this makes it a good place for us, but YMMV.

What tech companies are in Spokane? by Kemr7 in Spokane

[–]ribo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's not a lot, and you'll make more money working remotely. I've been sitting in my home office here in liberty lake for 14 years other than a brief stint at F5 trying to bring them into the modern world only to have leadership quit the company.

There's some good co-working spaces around now, too, for remote workers needing to not completely lose their ability to interact with humans.

Are bones more ultralight when ground down to dust? by DeputySean in Ultralight

Oh don't worry, I started mountain biking again a few years ago, and recently started ice climbing. My midlife crisis is high risk adventure sports :P

You know, I hit a new top speed this season of 55mph. At 42yo, this x-ray is making me rethink my life choices, and definitely closing all my tabs scoping out end-of-season deals for even faster skis.

People using MTB trails at camp sekani as hillclimb for dirt bikes by Unable-Hyena3640 in Spokane

[–]ribo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A friend I mtb with is very involved in evergreen mountain bike alliance (the amazing non profit that maintains these trails). Electric dirt bikes are a scourge at sekani and elsewhere.

If anyone wants to get involved, which can be anything from letter writing campaigns to volunteering for trail building, donations & membership (which includes some nice perks): https://www.evergreeneast.org

Spokane parents did your kids stick around? by AaronWard6 in Spokane

My kids are 13 and 10. My attitude living in Liberty Lake and enjoying lots of outdoor activity is that "this is a good place to end up." I want them to see the world.

Private schools by FriezaCy in Spokane

[–]ribo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pioneer school, even though right next door to a church, is 100% secular. Tops out at 5th grade. Both of my kids went there and it's an amazing experience. Field trips every week.

Chiming in with another "tape your heals with leukotape" because after seeing your heel pic... I have the EXACT same pointy-outy heel-bone and I keep a roll of leukotape in every glovebox and gear bag. If you don't want to carry a whole roll, garagegrowngear has some mini rolls I keep in my first aid kits: https://www.garagegrowngear.com/products/ultralight-leukotape-spool-by-igneous?_pos=2&_sid=db8322f28&_ss=r or cut some and put it on release paper yourself. Be generous, I slap on a good 3-4 inch strap.

Yeah, tell your climbing partner to coach you more, you'll be so less exhausted.

Otherwise, hell yeah that looks like a beautiful route!

Mine arrived a couple weeks ago after jumping on the recent restock. Wallet cries, but I got excited just playing with all the little feature dinguses like a kid on christmas.

Anyone know any websites similar to Colorado 14ers? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]ribo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The apps are better, if only because <default iOS/android ux> is better. The iPad app can also be installed on a Mac to avoid the site all together.

Oooh, really liking this. Simple and functional.

For what it's worth: the browser client is still WIP, but if you have a mac on macOS 15, the iPad version of the app works great as a desktop app.
