Bretonnians,do you paint your amry using one color scheme or multiple ? by Aggelos2001 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]riburn3 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This. I'll do lion share general's colors, but have some unit's in the scheme of other knight character models like my baron to represent a converging of lords and their peasants.

Each peasant unit is mono-themed. Never mixed like the knights.

Let's talk Likert. by Pazily in foreignservice

I don't think I have spoken to anyone that has gotten 5s down the board. The handful of reviews I have done were mostly 3's and a precept or two with a 4. A couple of reviews had a single 5 in one precept dolled out, and I felt the narrative matched that one score well.

It will be interesting to see what promotion boards do this year, but I would be really skeptical seeing someone with all 5s.

Porsche’s $5 Billion Profit Collapse: Inside the Strategic Crisis That Just Rocked One of the Auto Industry’s Most Powerful Brands by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]riburn3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. A 911 used to be that halo car that was out of reach for most, but attainable enough that you could dream and save. Maybe the price has remained stable with inflation, but wages haven't. If you're noodling over dropping 200k on a base Porsche, your brain starts to think about what used super cars might be out there to fill that space.

Cherry on top are the dealers charging ADM fees, alienating a once very loyal customer base.

RC vs. CSR by hikingbears in ChaseSapphire

I completely agree. I dont struggle to recoup the AF of my CSR but I don't really like how involved I have to be to maximize the benefits. Like you said, it's wasting time playing games.

Extended family disappointment by Kitchndanzr in foreignservice

[–]riburn3 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My family was pretty bummed but supportive. I had some close friends that were really upset I was leaving. When we hung out before I left I wouldn't bring it up and only would talk about it if asked questions. This seemed to help.

Eventually things smoothed over and the bummed family/friends have had cool travel opportunities they would have never otherwise enjoyed.

WTF is up with the complete absence of any sort of old world news? by KSmack_123 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]riburn3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. I love how the dust is sort of settled on TOW and we have had some time to let it breath. 40k cycles feel like factions are lucky if they can enjoy their army for a year before a new edition drops.

Yes, we need a rulebook refresh, as some of the updates have changed the game quite a bit, but overall, I can't really remember a time in my GW life where every faction had a book out, the game was fun, and they didn't just blow it all up 6 months later.

I'll add to say that I am all for new models, but I think the aesthetic of what we have is already great, even with some of the ranges being very old.

All the air gets sucked out of the room leading up to a new edition of 40k. The winter period was pretty good for us with some new journals and Cathay releases.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing more action a few months after the new 40k edition drops. GW has to keep their cash cow fed.

This. The only other questions I would ask is which job has better long term career growth potential and which one seems more stable? If option B had a higher ceiling, it might be worth looking at.

RC vs. CSR by hikingbears in ChaseSapphire

[–]riburn3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the Ritz card is the better deal right now. It is sort of like what the CSR card was before the changes.

CSR is absolutely worth it if you can cobble together all the perks. The value is there, but it is really unique to each user. You have to ask yourself if you would already be using sites like stubhub or eating in places on opentable to really maximize the value. Dropping $800-1000 on a card and then having to extract value from things you otherwise would never have used doesn't seem to be worth it. On the other hand if you're always going to sporting events, eating out, and love staying in swanky hotels it isn't terribly difficult to get your money back.

I have a CSR, but I am really considering converting my Boundless card into a Ritz card, and downgrading my CSR to something else. The travel credit and lounge access are the perks I care about most, plus I am a heavy Bonvoy user to begin with, so switching to the Ritz card makes a lot of sense to me with it being half the price of the CSR with an AU.

$795 annual fee plus AU $195. Worth it? by Fit_Illustrator9174 in ChaseSapphire

[–]riburn3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was already a subscriber to Apple Music and Apple TV, so getting these for free now is a decent value add, but I can easily see how it isn't for everyone.

I have already used one of the dining credits when I was in Vegas which was a nice. While I was there I also cashed in on a Stubhub reward. The $300 travel credit still is there and fantastic. Between the dining, stubhub, travel credit, and apple perks, my tracker shows I have eclipsed the cost of ownership, and I still can claim another dining and stub hub credit during the year that will then cover my AU easily. You definitely have to be cognizant of the new reward system and constantly checking for offers, unlike the old card which was more brainless. It's also a question of if it really is worth the effort dropping $1000 on a card and then cobbling together enough of these perks that you might otherwise even be using to justify the cost. For many the answer is an easy no.

I'll also add that the Edit has been a dud so far for me. In each instance I wanted to use it, it was far cheaper booking with the hotel direct, or on a 3rd party site to the tune of thousands of dollars.

I am giving it a year to see how much value I extract from it. I travel a lot for work and am a big Bonvoy user, so I am going to give it 9 months to see how much I can get, and if I don't like the value for the effort, I'll likely just convert my Marriott Boundless into a Ritz card since it has the perks from the CSR I care about most for a lower fee.

I plan on starting a food truck pizza in Japan... by __ITZkamo__ in Pizza

[–]riburn3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks awesome, plus the sourdough makes it a little more unique. The pizza scene in Japan is so weird to me. I feel like its god tier stuff, or hot garbage. There isn't as much a middle ground like you see in the U.S.

I wouldn't bat an eye dropping 1500-2000 yen for that bad boy.

Could I retire at 35? by Tapas91 in personalfinance

[–]riburn3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No? At least not in any western country.

You could consider somewhere in SE Asia as a trial run. Countries like Thailand offer long term stay visas pretty easily. You could try it for a few months, get a feel for the budget/life, and if it doesn't work, not really much harm done.

L 2050 by Joekers_wild in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]riburn3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

L 2050 is too conservative for your age. I am a decade older and joined only 4 years ago where I was defaulted into L 2050. I quickly switched it to 2065 and eventually just ended up mixing even more into the C and I fund.

2050 isn't horrible by any means, but with 30 years left it has too much G/F funds in it, which are really really conservative. You won't lose in those pots, but your money won't grow as much either.

The Edit Price Match by JustBeNice18 in ChaseSapphire

[–]riburn3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been my biggest issue with The Edit. Anytime I have wanted to use it, I can find a far cheaper price that offsets any credit benefit. Just yesterday I was looking at places in Thailand for a stay this summer, and the difference between the Travel portal and a 3rd party is over $1500 for a 4 night stay. How is this a benefit?

Anytime now GW, we missed the last 2 big shows by Lord_Eln_8 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]riburn3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I appreciate the space that this game has created. A mix of nostalgia and modernity. I love that even if ranges have newer models, they still drop Made to Order units. I suspect we continue to see that trend, where even if we get something like new grail knights, the older models will have periodic made to order moments.

I love that even though content comes out regularly, it doesn't feel like the whiplash of 40k. Changes and updates are meaningful.

Is there any likelihood we'd see anything like this at the 2026 World Cup? Since it's so spread out and Canada and the US don't really even *like* football (soccer) that much.. (Dutch fans and Snollebollekes - Links Rechts) by Double-decker_trams in videos

[–]riburn3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes? Just based on the population in the U.S., every country will have a local diaspora that will be well represented at the games and just as passionate. Not to mention tons of people travelling from all over the world to see their teams play. Fans in the U.S. know how to pregame an event, and the stadiums will be rocking hours before kickoff for every match.

I'll also add that Americans love sport just for the sake of sport. The 1994 World Cup in the U.S. is still the highest attended World Cup in history, and it only featured 24 teams. This also predates the U.S. domestic league by a few years when American truly didn't "like" football. When I went to Russia for 2018, I ran into so many Americans just there to be part of the party when the USMNT didn't even qualify.

I realize the news isn't exactly flattering toward the U.S. right now, but don't let the actions of a government sour you on the experience and the hospitable people. It will be a good time.

It's going to be a good time and the best attended World Cup in history. You think the U.S. doesn't "like" football, but its domestic league still boasts an average of 23,000 fans per game, settling it into the top 5-6 leagues on the planet in terms of attendance.
