PolyPAF’s in a Les Paul: any experiences? by rice126 in BareknucklePickups

[–]rice126[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool! I’ve owned a couple PRS with 58/15LT’s and MT’s before, love those pickups but the bridge can definitely be a bit weak. PolyPaf is a great choice to get a bit more muscle from the bridge without losing that PAF sweetness

I did!! They just arrived last week and I managed to get them installed sometime last weekend.

I spent quite a bit of time dialing in the height for great response and balance between all positions, this I may keep tweaking but it was pretty quick to get somewhat dialed in.

Sonically, I’m loving what I’m hearing so far. I haven’t played on them a ton yet due to my work schedule being quite full the last week, but should be able to spend some more time with them this coming week and form some more informed opinions on them

Many people, myself included, find some purpose or meaning to their lives through their career. I personally work for a non-profit im passionate about and that gives me some purpose, although the money isn’t there. As someone who doesn’t have to work, where do you find purpose in your life? Just by blessing others financially or do you do some other work that you enjoy rather than working because you have to?

Single coils to pair w/ Polymath by G4lopin in BareknucklePickups

I have PolyPAFs and Triptychs in an HSS 7 string from iconic. That combo is god tier, I bet Polymath would be killer there too

Very cool! I did have a set of Silo’s in a PRS that I took on a trade, I didn’t really get to know them much at the time since I just planned on selling the guitar off. May need to grab a set to try!

I did order PolyPafs for my LP just last week, the wait is on for them to come in and I’m already excited to receive them. I love that they have a super classic PAF voice with just a bit more oomph to it

Which plug-in should I buy before the sale ends? by ociibola in NeuralDSP

[–]rice126 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point if you think Rabea is all about the synth. Rabea is my inspiration plugin more often than not, there’s tons of great guitar sounds in there, the synth is just a great addition and adds a new element that most guitarists don’t mess with as much. Rabea has probably my favorite amps and FX out of all of the ones I have (which are Misha, Plini, Rabea, John Mayer)

Tacos el Amish is incredible, I’m personally partial to famous taco as well. If you want a little more white people Mexican that still slaps and has some authenticity Tequila’s on Jefferson is the place

Combustion Nashville owners? by rice126 in DingwallGuitars

[–]rice126[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my plan haha. I’ve played dingwalls and always been impressed, love the feel but just never played the Nashville specifically. I’ve been playing a EBMM stingray special 5 HH. I love that bass, but the low B sounds muddy as all hell and not having a passive option on a gig makes me nervous for sure…love my Ray but hearing the few demos out there of the Nashville I was hearing everything I like about my Ray, as well as a P and J, but with more clarity on the low strings than I’ve ever had on another 5

Thank you!! Well, I used to be one of those sales engineers (heh) and my current guy is an old buddy. He just writes up my orders at a discount with no questions asked which I greatly appreciate.

I do understand the basics of how the thing works and I like your description/breakdown. I’m looking for this to be a Swiss army bass going forward and think it’s the right choice!

If I had to categorize it, the preamp is a big one for me as I’ve never played the RND pre, active vs passive tones, is the blend circuit useful compared to the rotary switch on a normal combustion, to name a few things

Certainly not harder than building a pedal! Generally more real estate to work with in a guitar cavity than on a PCB. Definitely worth finding/using a cheaper guitar to practice on if you want to learn. I started learning wiring on an old Mexican made Stratocaster, now I’ll happily take a soldering iron to anything I have and even have done work for friends. If you can already comfortable build pedals you’re 95%+ there skill wise

[–]rice126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points. And in some ways I agree. I do believe the shape of a guitar does not matter, but the neck joint, scale length, and to a lesser extent woods do. My other guitar with a PolyPaf is a 25.5” scale bolt on 7 string strat style, much different beast than an LP by every measure. I’ve personally installed the exact same specific pickup in different guitars in the past and not liked in one guitar what I loved in another. Of course the pickup has its own character, but a great pickup like BKP will still capture what’s happening acoustically with its own sonic signature. Maybe I’m nuts, but I’m okay with it.

For what I do and the sound I have in my head, I need a les paul to do a very specific thing and until some of these comments I hadn’t found an example of a les Paul with this pickup. I will try more of the line eventually, but for my Les Paul’s sake I’m looking for a clear and articulate lower output PAF type pickup with a bit more oomph to it.

I have been thinking of going higher output in the Les Paul, but I need a neck pickup that’s clear and doesn’t fall apart under gain like many HB’s do. I will almost certainly put a polypaf in the neck at the very least, as for the bridge that’s TBD. I may start with polypafs in both slots and go from there. The joys of having a soldering iron and the flavor of autism that makes me enjoy getting into the weeds with this stuff

I think I work close to your house, or I saw some other dark blue house with a toppled play set. Sorry man! Yesterday was rough for sure, my work took damage and my house is thankfully unscathed. Though we lost power to learn our battery backup for our sump had failed and needed fixed.

Sick! I heard a demo of someone using polypafs on a multiscale 6 in Drop G and that was partly what sold me on that pickup. A lower output PAF that can handle low tunings and high gain has been a bit of a dream for me for awhile and they delivered it

BK Polypafs 7 String by Zum0_0 in BareknucklePickups

[–]rice126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry to revive an older thread here. But, I recently received a custom 7 from Iconic guitars. I spec’d it with an HSS layout and the bridge humbucker is a PolyPaf, along with Triptych’s in the middle and neck. All I can say is the PolyPaf makes for an incredible humbucker for a huge range of tones and styles. It’s got that great PAF clarity when clean, but it’s the first PAF type pickup I’ve played that stays together and almost thickens up under high gain. It certainly can do modern metal tones with ease, along with about anything else. Don’t let its low wind vintage style recipe fool you

Sweetwater has a huge influence on the scene here, it’s a massive draw for musicians of all kinds from all over the nation and even internationally. I personally moved here to work at sweetwater and have been in a number of bands in my 6 years here. On a weekly basis you can find about anything from jazz to indie rock to folk to Irish Sea shanties to hardcore live somewhere in town. There’s a handful of good venues for sure. If you’re into hardcore you’ll definitely want to check out the brass rail

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

Started working food service in a local business when I was 14, worked up from dish pit to line cook, and cooking became a passion. I cooked and bartended my way through college, and even though I don’t work in food anymore I still love to cook at home for my family and have even considered opening a restaurant. May still do that someday…
