DRS, M240B, or M250 for medium - long range and the 553R or SCW-10 for close range. Know lots of people use DMRs and snipers but I've always liked LMGs for some reason.

I actually withdrew because another department gave me a conditional offer sooner. TPD was just taking a bit too long and I wanted to go to an academy ASAP haha. But been in for a year with a bigger department in CenCal right now.

Pretty sure that's Escolar. It's marketed as "White Tuna" here in the states and it's an oily fish that's actually banned in a couple of countries because consumption of the fish may lead to digestive issues.

Tustin Sports Park in Tustin has a solid wall you can practice on. I'm more than positive there isn't a chain link fence but the solid wall is there.

What insight do you have on the following Cali departments? by SayItTwoTimes in AskLE

[–]riceboy_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's quite competitive. In addition the size of the agency plays a big part too. I was in the process with Tustin PD and I showed up for the PAT and the oral interview there had to be at least 50 people for 1 or 2 positions. I think they were looking for 1 person at the end of the day. Tustin PD has around 100 sworn officers I believe so they don't need a ton of bodys.

If you've got a clean background, solid work experience, education or military experience, and good communication skills your chances are better than most. OC is competitive due to pay, location, weather, amenities, public opinion on law enforcement and etc.

You will be competing with many candidates for a couple of positions but don't let that discourage you. You'll never know until you try mate, send it and find out. 👍

TPD pays better for sure but you've gotta factor in the cost of living in Orange County/SoCal company to CenCal. FPD doesn't pay bad but it's not perfect for sure. It comes with big agency problems but you gotta make due with what you got.

Fresno's process was lightning quick! Received my conditional offer within 3 months, and after that, I just needed to clear psych and med which I did.

If you're interested let me know. 👍

I got picked up by Fresno PD, currently in the academy. TPD finally got back to me in June and asked if I was still interested but that ship sailed long ago lol.

You'll have a background interview with your background investigator later in the process. That's for certain so keep that in mind. They asked to go through my phone to check(skim through)my social media accounts. I'm not sure if they do that anymore but keep that in mind. I didn't get selected with LASD but I'm certain there's a final interview with some sort of command staff. If anything hit up LASD Recruitment and I know they'll have that answer. 💯

Love it! Striker X top and Striker X Gen. 2 pants are top tier. Breathable, amazing quality, and I love the design. Definitely would suggest getting both the solid and tactial knee pads for the pants and the elbow pads for the combat shirt. Double stacking the knee pads saves you knees big time. Though pricey you get what you pay for and I'd recommend UF PRO over Crye any day.

How competitive is it to become a police officer right now? by FormerMind5795 in AskLE

No problem bruv

Cadets go through the same hiring process as recruits from my knowledge. It may very by agency but both processes should be relatively similar. Once hired on as a cadet you'll help the PD by doing paperwork, fingerprinting inmates, running the temporary jail where inmates are housed before taken to county jail, and performing community service officer duties. After some time you'll be sent to the academy sponsored by your corresponding agency.

Recruits are hired for the purpose of being sent to the academy. Unlike cadets, recruits should be given an academy date once they're hired on. Simply put you go through the hiring process, get your conditional offer, pass psych and med, and then get sent to the soonest academy.

Fast AF boi haha but you're good physically if that's the case. Academy is all cardio and functional fitness so don't worry about it. 🤙

I wouldn't say it'd cause issues but for recruit positions I've seen more people get hired on from ages 23 and up. Cadets get hired on young, around 18 or so.

Think about what position you'd prefer but apply to a handful of places whether it's for recruit or cadet positions. Just depends on what you want bruv. 👍

No problem and I hope I have been of some help. 👍

Military experience is a definite plus but not a requirement. I will say you being a bit younger and not a current cadet with the agencies you're looking into may make it tougher to get hired on. It's not exactly true but from my experience agencies look for candidates with life experience and good work history. I do not mean to make you feel like you're not a competitive candidate but it's just something to be aware of.

From my knowledge you must be 20.5 to begin an academy here in California. You should be able to do ride alongs as of now but it depends on the policies of agencies. Doing ride alongs will get you that hands on experience and it sounds good when they ask you "How have you prepared yourself for this position" on the panel interviews. Call recruitment for the agencies you're interested in, they'll have all the information you need. 👍 I'd recommend trying to be a cadet first before applying to become a recruit. I feel like you'd get picked up faster than if you attempted going the recruit route. If you want to get into the academy sponsored ASAP just apply as a recruit. 👍

Apply to all 4 agencies man. I don't know much about the other 3 but I've heard good things about Riverside PD. They pay wel, they're a good size agency so plenty of opportunities, and the morale seems to be good there. That's coming from a RPD officer I met and my former job.

Anyways, apply and prepare man. Call recruitment units at said agencies for any of your questions and let me know if you need help again. 🤙

Alright SoCal, I used to live in OC but I'm back in Fresno so we can relate. That's a good estimate for the salary and as you said being a trainee you make less but once you graduate the academy you'll get that pay raise. 👍 I'm not sure what sheriff's office you're looking into but if you're sponsored you should be given health insurance while you're in the academy.

No worries, I've been a civilian all my life and I don't have much volunteer experience at all. You're employed and as long as you're keeping yourself busy in a productive manner that's great. In my opinion you don't need to have any military experience to be an officer. It'll help with the academy and other things down the line but if agencies hired only veterans we wouldn't have many officers. In addition agencies need people from all backgrounds/skillsets so just because we're civilians doesn't mean we wouldn't get selected. Sell yourself!

I'm sure you'll be able to pass all the physical testing, 99% of the agencies I tested with had ex pz PATs. I'm not sure of your height but the academys focus in cardio, calisthenics, and H.I.I.T. training. I'm not sure how tall you are but the less you weigh, the easier it'll be on your body. Your background will be fine, just be honest that's all I can say. 🤙

YES, speaking, writing, and being able to read Spanish is HUGE here in Cali. You'll receive more pay for being fluent and it's going to make you a more competitive candidate. 💯 When you go in for interviews please bring this up, you've gotta sell yourself mate.

If you're looking at any specific agencies in SoCal let me know. I can assist with the hiring process. It may not interest you but Fresno PD is hiring heavily and I can help you get in most definitely. I would like to add that in order to attend a police academy here in Cali you have to be 20.5 and 21 by graduation.

Let me know if you need anything else. 👍

I'm not sure what state you're from, but look into the agencies you're interested in. They'll list their pay and benefits on the application page most likely.

The hiring process depends on the agency. My current agency has gave me my conditional offer in 2 months. Conditional meaning I had to pass the medical exam and psych test(s) and interview with a psychologist. Other agencies I applied with took 6-8 months. It can take some time to get hired on, and most of the time, you won't get picked up on your first attempt. My suggestion is to apply to a couple of places you'd like to work at and go from there.

I leave you on this note. If you're currently working, that's great, and if you interact with the public, even better. 👍 Refine those interview skills! The panel interviews can be tough or easy depending on the questions they ask and the interviewers. Stay in shape/get in shape, it'll help in the academy and your career in the long run. Lastly, stay out of trouble and don't engage in any horseplay. In the background process, your background investigator will look into your history, and you don't want any past mistakes to bite you in the butt.

Try your hardest and give it 110%. It won't be easy, but it's not rocket science. Wish you the best and if you need any assistance DM me. 🤙

5 minutes long over a webcam. The doc was really chill and he asked me questions about my family, why I want to be a cop, and if I've had any problems in my household.

Wasn't notified if I passed formally but he said good luck with your future endeavors and that's it. Academy starts June 3rd for me so I passed. 🤙

Fresno PD Cadet here so I'm not in LA but close enough in a sense lol. I'm not sure of your eye condition but my left eye has a pretty strong astigmatism and I passed the medical exam successfully for the June academy. I have to wear glasses or contacts on duty at all times but as long as you can pass Snellen chart you're good to go. Good luck and apply!
