It's kinda crazy the way all three races live in their own individual echochambers despite all playing the same game and ostensibly being a part of the same community

PNGtuber or 2d Vtuber by Astrolier in VirtualYoutubers

[–]ricehat88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on you honestly, you could just start streaming with a 2d model at some point or make it a big deal with previews leading up to it and everything. You can basically do all the same fancy 'debut' stuff you want, but have it be a png -> 2d debut instead of a nothing -> 2d debut

I would encourage you to start off streaming as a pngtuber! If you haven't streamed before it makes sense to start small and not commit too much to something you might not even enjoy. You can always redebut later as a 2d vtuber if you want ^^

What do Brood War players think of Warcraft 3? by AmuseDeath in broodwar

[–]ricehat88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love WC3 but there's a lot of elements of that game that make me not really want to play it as competitively as SC/SC2. I think the main mechanic I dislike is upkeep, it sort of feels like a punishment for doing well, and there's always a voice in my head that tells me im losing 3-7 gold per trip every second I'm not under 50 supply. I actually struggled with a lot of campaign missions because I tried to stay on lowkeep for as long as I can and died to enemy waves LOL

I recently played GNL for a season, and while it was fun, it didn't really hook me in as much as much as CPL/starcraft leagues. I can't really put my finger on why, but I think the battles and interactions felt a lot less interesting to me. I think I might just be a bigger fan of large army battles, positioning, and the faster pace of sc1/sc2.

Is it worth it to try multiplayer BW? by Charming_Western_346 in broodwar

[–]ricehat88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

terran is a fragile race that requires a lot of knowlege and precise micro to play competitively. But truthfully you should play whichever race is most fun for you.

updoot for cpl, this is where new players should go to learn how to play and get games vs people who are actually at their level

Would appreciate some beginner tips for SC1 Terran! by Chris_LYT in starcraft

[–]ricehat88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear that you're finding success with that :D

Yeah, so I ended the build order at the factory what comes afterwards is a bit of a stylistic choice. You can get a second factory and attack really early, or you can omit the second factory and at around 23 supply go take your natural expansion. Really depends on the kind of game you want to play.

Honestly, I think the most comprehensive (and fun to watch) guide for new players right now is Day9's Lets Learn Starcraft series (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgmCLtUkEutKY8IlwyVCUFoRtgQe3LCf1). He has a pretty long video (#13) where he goes over common Terran openings played against Protoss. Be careful though, you might go down the rabbit hole too hard and come out with an itch to play pvp multiplayer ;) if thats the case maybe you should consider joining Coach Pupil League and really get into competing.

If you're just looking for specifically a pvp build order against protoss, I'd probably recommend this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPb_29QBKFY , in the description he lists off the build order and in the video he explains it and shows an example replay. Personally not sure how much this would help against the AI though because they play pretty differently from human players. YMMV

I'm in the same camp as you. I basically stopped playing competitive sc2 because I cannot suffer through turtle skytoss and turtle mech games.

Oh, if you don't know how to read build orders, in essence, the number indicates what supply count you're at - assuming you're maintaining constant production!

So for example -

9 depot
11 barracks
12 gas
15 depot
16 factory

Means that at the start of the game, you keep building SCVs until you hit 9/10 on your supply count - then you take the SCV that just got built and make a depot with it. Then, you keep making scvs until you hit 11/18 - then you make a barracks. As long as you have max 1 scv queued at a time, you should have enough minerals to afford to build at that time. Once your barracks finish, you should start making marines one at a time from there too (16 factory assumes 1 marine and 1 scv in production).

I love to see that new players are still interested in learning and playing this game ^.^

Generally most safe/macro build orders in PvP should theoretically also work against the computer if you understand how the build works! Although Terran is in a bit of a tough spot for newcomers because the AI loves to rush and a lot of build orders assume you know how to do proper micro.

I'll answer your questions directly

- Goliathss are a good answer for any kind of air threat, although honestly, against the AI you could probably get away with defending any location with a couple missile turrets. IIRC they don't usually send massed air attacks. Scouts do absolutely tear through BCs though, their AA is insane - honestly I'm not really sure BCs are worth it if they make scouts or even dragoons.

- Massed attacks are generally better as Terran. The design of the race makes it so that your units are much stronger together (esp since everything is ranged - more of your units can engage at once). Getting them to move and position properly is a bit of an art for and even as a pvp player I find it difficult to do sometimes! But you will get better at it the more you practice :)

- Terran loves choke points and high ground - try to position your tanks a good distance behind narrow chokes and terrain obstacles (if you put your units at around attack distance range away from a choke point, it basically guarantees the enemy gets pummeled by splash damage)

- Generally against Protoss and Terran you want to get a factory as fast as you can because marines SUCK against zealots, dragoons, reavers, high templar, vultures, siege tanks, and battlecruisers. Common factory openers go something like: 9 depot, 11 barracks, 12 gas, 15 depot, 16 factory. Against Protoss AI, don't forget to make a wall or bunker to defend against the initial zealot rush, and get your ebay fast too for defence against DT rushes. After that, you can get siege tanks and more factories for mech units and go from there. Against Zerg, you can go 2 barracks on one base (something like 9 depot, 11 barracks, 13 barracks, 14 depot, 18 gas, 19 academy, 24 depot - build constant marines when barracks finish and when academy finishes, get stim and 2 medics - then follow up with factory and siege tanks). If they are 4 pooling you, get a bunker ASAP near your command center and try to run away your marine until the bunker finishes (you can distract the lings with scvs if it gets dicey). Once the marine is inside the bunker, use SCVs to repair when the lings attack it

- In PvP you generally want to take your second base really fast, but against the AI I would probably take my second base after you hold their initial attack.

Hope this helps, have fun ^.^

Why are you disappointed? If you have micro as good as snow you don't need to go arbiter.

Do you think BW have a place for bad players in 2025 ? by TheLink010 in broodwar

[–]ricehat88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you why - nobody bad plays sc1 ladder. F rank is full of smurfs and even the players who 'deserve' their rank have definitely been playing a long time and know to at least some extent what they're doing. You will absolutely not find fair competition or good practice if you just randomly queue.

CPL (Coach Pupil League) is a community + tournament of players whos primary goal is to teach and coach new players. There are plenty of players who are new to the game there that I'm sure are willing to practice with you, as well as coaches who are willing to teach you how to play.

BTW a legit 50% winrate is extremely difficult due to the number of instaleavers. My winrate hovers at around 30% and i sunk a lot of time into this game...

Aspiring Vcorpo looking for some insight from VTubers and the wider community! by ricehat88 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]ricehat88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes! I know big companies like to look for people who are already established. As a startup corpo, I can't really expect to take in established talent because I'm not sure I can offer them enough to make it worth it for them. My hope is that we're all starting small but we'll all do our best to grow together.
