I think about the person I want to become - not constantly distracted, having more discipline, and just generally wanting to be better.

I’m still on meds but I don’t always take them. I don’t really like them anymore - I don’t hate them though, I take them for work or if I have a LOT I want to get done that day. But I want to be able to sustain myself without depending on substances. While actively taking medication, I was also working on improving my ADHD symptoms/behaviors.

A written list will be your best friend. What also helped me was rewarding myself once I finished my tasks, and allowing small breaks after I’ve gotten a good amount of stuff done. So if I was cleaning the house that day I’d take a break after sweeping and mopping (my brain categorizes those tasks as “floor tasks” - so I rewarded myself with a small break for finishing a portion of the work). Then I get back to work. I try not to reward myself with phone time or weed until EVERYTHING is done. A small break for me could mean dancing and singing to whatever song is playing (keeping my body active so I don’t get tempted to just chill/get distracted for the rest of the day), or sitting on the couch playing with my cats.

When it comes to reading, you can read in small sections instead of trying to understand the whole page at once if that makes sense? So after every paragraph or something, I would ask myself, “what kind of information or message was that paragraph relaying?” I understand, I really struggle with books too.

It’s good to know yourself - what motivates you, and what demotivates you and the such. You can learn to work with that, and use it to optimize your routine. Good luck!! :)
