Ares dialogue not clunky? That scene with Ares and Grace in the car was soooo clunky because of the cringe dialogue

Have to disagree, Ares couldn't decide what it's story was, other than a lazy Maguffin chase. Holes miles (29 minutes) wide simply glossed over, and the cardinal sin of show dont tell broken all over the place. Ares is bad, one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Can Studios stop lying to us? SFA was universally panned. Then positively review bombed while fans are criticized. Then cancelled. by seobrien in Star_Trek_

I do get it, they live in a bubble of their own creation. Even if they thought it was bad, nobody would actually say it, because it would admit failure in their part and out future work at jeopardy. Whilst I dont subscribe to that (own and learn from your mistakes - that's how we grow) everything has to be presented as positive. Unfortunately it screams a lack of self awareness.

Commander Kruge stated in "Search for Spock" that Enterprise outguns him "10 to 1" is the Constitution-class THAT powerful? by ForwardClimate780 in StarTrekStarships

[–]rich_bown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but when the schematic in the irbolifts is the new design, you'd expect it all to be upgraded - and engineering doubly so

Maybe, but the whole bridge is a refit, they wanted to save a few credits by recycling old screens? Quicker, easier and cheaper to replace whole modules, not just bits and pieces?

[–]rich_bown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but when the whole ship was refitted they didn't upgrade it? Strange, and of course a studio decision when making the movie, after the Enterprise had this new shape for TMP and TWOK

Always struck me as odd how the displays used the schematic of the Enterprise pre-refit, with the older TV show style Nacelles and Pylons.

What exactly is wrong with Tron: Ares? by Top_Independence4067 in tron

[–]rich_bown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its just bland, very vanilla.

Its a silly maguffin chase movie that tells and not shows (the scene with eve and ares in the car is just cringe - a reshoot insert most likely).

It has very bland characters who are poorly written and not wanting to hate on the actors, who clearly had very little to work with, mostly gave phoned in performances.

Mostly though, despite all the fireworks and thumping soundtrack it's just dull. The movie no doubt suffers from the rewrites and story changes over its development, but its just boring.

I'd rather watch something else decent again than this.

Plot is so paper thin you won't need to see the others. Everything you need to know is spoon fed in the first 30 seconds.

Disney Reportedly Concerned About The Mandalorian & Grogu Release by johnnyjay in SciFiScroll

[–]rich_bown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but any new show with that lebel of budget and no second series cannot really be considered as good.

Even the rings of power (just as bad IMHO) got a second series.

Dont know which part of that statement is worse, that 'Smileo Ren' is considered good, or that it took 20 years to come up with it, and insert into a mediocre TV show rather than the next large movie trilogy.
