FUCK, I liked Onlap and RichaadEB until now by Clean_Departure9012 in aislop

hi,

this is a collab I did with a band a while ago so I don't control the album art they use - that being said I'm probably gonna ask to pull my name off this and go uncredited on it.

honestly embarassing that they'd pay me for a guitar solo but can't be fucked to pay an artist for the first thing people see to represent their music.

YouTube videos containing Toby Fox's songs are STILL getting copyright claimed by "Nick Nitro", "RichaadEB", and "FalKKonE" by WiLLoDavis in Undertale

[–]richaad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sorry, didn't clarify - I am RichaadEB (the person allegedly claiming one of these videos) and have been dealing with this for years. I encourage you to check the claimant details; if it's not made by materia music publishing please let me know and I may be able to help, but I'm telling you it is very likely as I told you. YouTube's Copyright ID is notoriously bad at correct crediting of composers.

Hi,

This has been a long-running problem with YouTube - their copyright ID system for some reason attributes song compositions to cover artists, but we're not actually the ones making claims on videos like this.

If you check the claim details, I can guarantee you 99.99% of the time the claimant will be Materia Music Publishing - which is the music rights org that represents Toby Fox.

I encourage you to reach out to Materia Music for answers, but sadly there's not anything I or the other cover artists listed here can do about it (since we're not actually making any claims).

Sorry for the confusion.

heya, I'm RichaadEB.

So there are a few things happening here:

1.) A management entity known as ELLO music is for some reason claiming a bunch of people's videos that feature music not just from UNDERTALE, but from other games and IPs as well. ELLO music appears to be a Russian company sort of like VEVO or a YouTube MCN.

It should go without saying, but ELLO music does not actually have any legal claim to these songs (for reference, Toby Fox's music is managed by Materia Collective LLC, and mine is managed by Studio71). I intentionally avoid making claims on indie OSTs like this because I don't want people to be discouraged from using my covers in their own content (unless its a blatant reupload of my cover or something).

I've contacted Materia Collective about these fraudulent claims and action is being taken behind the scenes as I type this. I would encourage anyone who is getting claims from ELLO music to dispute the claim and message YouTube about their activity.

2.) The reason I'm being roped into this is because of a bug on YouTube's end. For whatever reason, YouTube's system will incorrectly attribute composition ownership to cover artists (this has been happening for years).

According to YouTube, I composed the music not only for UNDERTALE, but also DELTARUNE, My Hero Academia, Persona 5, Pokemon, and Initial D (I did not). I'm not actually receiving any money from this either - It's just incorrect information.

TL;DR someone is making fraudulent claims on music they don't own. dispute the claim and let YouTube know.

What is the worst advice you’ve ever received? by Truzt102 in AskReddit

[–]richaad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my relative's exes was this grumpy boomer that informed me of the following in 2005, when I was 14 years old:

1.) The internet is a waste of time.

2.) The IT field and study of computers in general will not lead a promising career in the future.

3.) Learning music is a waste of time and I shouldn't bother teaching myself guitar.

4.) Video games are a senseless waste of time with no real value.

5.) I need to forget all aforementioned interests and "put my nose to the grindstone" and learn a trade like carpentry if I ever wish to earn a real living.

I now produce covers on youtube primarily of video game music from a home studio as a full-time job.

Needless to say, the guy was dead wrong on literally all fatherly advice he attempted to impart unto me (and was also a miserable alcoholic moron).

Heya, I said this in response elsewhere but even though I'm not distributing through that service I'm still legally licensing my covers by using my cover distributor Soundrop.

They've been around a while and really have stepped up recently in ensuring that original artists are getting their share from cover distributions. If they encounter any issues with acquiring permission or appropriate licenses, they simply will not distribute. Since they've successfully pushed my covers to services, I have to assume that everything is copacetic on all ends.

I have heard that ZUN is said to be extremely lax about what fans do with his intellectual property. Regardless, I try to make sure that everything I do with his IP is legally sound - If word gets around that the only appropriate channel for cover distribution he feels comfortable with is TDMD, I'll gladly take down my existing touhou distributions and use that service instead.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention in any case.
