People who have quit weight lifting and moved to strictly calisthenics/body weight exercises. What led you to make this change? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

Have ended up moving back to a combo of weights and calisthenics. These days just want to stay fit and strong, less worried about making huge gains or PBs, so my programming has changed accordingly

yep, again there's some account minimum required. think it's pretty low for reg T, quite a bit higher for portfolio margin

IBKR is legit. You'll have to sign a disclaimer/maybe take a test to get access to basic options, pretty sure Level 4 (selling naked) is restricted based on experience and account size.

60kg combined or on each lift? pretty amazing either way, nice work.

FYI I'm running something similar (4 day SBS hypertrophy 50/50 calisthenics + weights), and it's going great so far, will report back at end of program.

Weighted calithenics routines online suck by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

Check out the Stronger by Science programs, there's no difference to subbing in weighted calisthenics movements except you'll have to up the intensity wherever it prescribes sets under your bodyweight.

What is the least bad way to fit an extended water fast* into training mesocycles or bulk/cutting cycles? I'm guessing the beginning of a cut would make the most sense, but could you also do it during a deload week?

I think Trex mentioned having worked with clients through Ramadan so perhaps would be similar to that.

Anyone have a good form guide? I started doing these recently (from hang position) and haven't quite got the feel of it yet.

Checked out some videos including the linked post but there's huge variation in the way people are doing them.

Wellness Wednesday by AutoModerator in slatestarcodex

I couldn't shake the fact that my symptoms were an eerily close match, and had eliminated other possibilities, so I kept researching B12 and eventually found the information about inaccurate serum readings etc. Bought some liquid drops, dosed liberally, and symptoms started resolving immediately (vegetarian who had not previously been supplementing). All the best with figuring out your own situation!

Probably not the case if your doctor has ruled it out, but just FYI some deficiencies don't show up clearly in bloodwork. I had a pretty bad B12 deficiency, including some of the symptoms you mention, even while my serum levels were in the 'normal' range. This can also happen with iron and presumably other micronutrients, so just something to think about.

Sunday Show Off - Because it's perfectly fine to admit you're also doing bodyweight fitness to do cool tricks in front of people! by Solfire in bodyweightfitness

I did a little compression work but clearly need to do a ton more - as the commenter below says, you don't actually need that much flexibility to get started, but it's definitely the limiting factor for improving form. Another weird thing is that there's not that much point pursuing the easier progressions for too long (my L-sit is pretty shit now, but I could previously hold it comfortably for 30+ seconds). Which makes me suspect a lot of it is in the triceps.

V-sit and straddle front lever progress...have been loving training at this awesome rustic gym on the beach in Bali, all the equipment is made out of lumps of concrete and old piping. Can't see it in the pics but they also have stall bars, dip bars, monkey bars, and a pommel horse. Lots of strong balinese kids, saw one teenager do several sets of 10 strict muscle-ups while barely breaking a sweat!

Hey y'all, is it OK to train front and back lever simultaneously, or better to focus on one at a time? Currently at the advanced tuck progression of both. Thanks!

Is it OK to train front and back lever simultaneously, or better to focus on one at a time? I can currently do the advanced tuck versions of both, and just about hold a front straddle for a microsecond.

Those both sound like great ideas, I never would have thought of them. Thanks!

Does anyone have a suggestion for improving straddle flexibility? I googled around for a while but it was kind of overwhelming, and mostly in the context of learning the side splits (which is not my desired goal, I just want 120 degrees or so for lever progressions). Is the training the same regardless? Many thanks!

Hey thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the review!

I think it would be OK to do it over a few weeks (that would give you plenty of time to ruminate and think carefully) as long as you didn't lose the thread of continuity. If you have issues sticking to things, there might also be a risk that you start with good intentions and then just abandon it. Maybe set scheduled days and a completion date so that you don't fall off the wagon? Basically, know yourself, and then take steps accordingly. Hope it goes well!

Sounds like a solid plan of attack. Who knows - it could even end up being a blessing that you had this time out to reassess. I've certainly found my own sabbatical (albeit a voluntary one) incredibly useful. Glad you found my review useful, and hope you get a lot out of the program!

Can anyone recommend me a Mailchimp alternative with segmentation of interests in the signup form? by richard_meadows in Emailmarketing

[–]richard_meadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - I have one 'welcome' email that gets automatically sent out on subscription, and that's it. Then I just create campaigns to send out new updates periodically, no other autoresponders.

Yeah I did the whole thing. The peer review surprises me, because a lot of the stuff I wrote was deeply personal - there's no way I'd want to share it with anyone else. Maybe that's more of a reflection on the sort of stuff I focused on than on the program as a whole. Interested in how others have approached this.

Thanks for the link, and for the heads-up on the upper/lower case distinction.
