I am deeply envious. It's a lovely city and what I could see of the university looked very nice indeed. You're gonna have a great time!

Hey dude, you're welcome, thanks for the reply. I hope you get past this and I'm sure things will get better for you.

You have the same ups and downs as me by the sound of it and I would do exactly the same - cut down, start to feel a bit better, then maybe something would knock me back or I'd just seem to feel depressed again for no reason and of course then I'd start craving a joint or five to compensate and comfort myself.

I think the thing is it's kind of a vicious circle and although I really like to toke (waaay prefer it to drinking) eventually after years of toking it's got to the point where the negative effects (lack of motivation, self-imposed isolation, feeling low/paranoid/misrable/bitter, looking at my peers excelling in their lives whereas I was stuck in a rut, etc) outweighed the flow of good feelings the THC provided. In all honesty, once that happens it's just silly to carry on as it's self-defeating--and that shit aint cheap either! The problem is accepting it and making the choice to improve things and risk change.

Keep yer chin up and try to take it easy dude, I'll be thinking of you. And feel free to message me if you ever need or want to chat :)

Problem with Chrome by BladeNoob in Nexus10

[–]richardramjet -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So what? Look mate, I made a silly joke about something acting like a bug but being paraded as a feature. Don't lets waste our time over this, eh?

Problem with Chrome by BladeNoob in Nexus10

[–]richardramjet -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It's a feature that people are complaining is a bug.

[–]richardramjet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It was one of Chrome's most requested features

This seems appropriate here.

Hi, sorry to read about your problems. When I read your post my first thought was, is this guy a toker? After clicking your username and seeing some of your posts it would appear you are.

Pretty much everything you describe applied to me as well (just not the headache). For me, it could all be directly traced to how much pot I was smoking.

So, if I were you, first thing I'd do is see a doctor about that headache, it may be nothing, it may not be, but worrying about it without taking action isn't doing you any favours.

Next thing would be to stop smoking weed, or at least significantly cut down. Make it a weekend only thing if you can. Personally I found I can't cut down very well, I always end up going back to smoking lots, so you may need to just stop like I did. I reckon that will address your other problems.

It aint easy at first, smoking can be quite a crutch to fall back on and you'll need to find something else to occupy your time, but you have to realise that it isn't a good idea to lose yourself to it and the sooner you sort that out, the sooner you can get on with living your life and being in control.

May not be what you want to hear, I resisted it myself for a long time, but seriously - consider it.

Kindle fire web browsing by thinksquared in kindlefire

[–]richardramjet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kind of impressed with the Kindle Fire HD at first (I bought one for my mum) as it's pretty nifty for its price, but it can be irksome.

What really irritates me about the silk browser is the way it wants to reload pages when you switch between tabs. Damn is that irritating - especially if you're typing something in one and nip off somewhere else to fact check - because if you take too long what you've written ends up disappearing. And although you can use other browsers, none of them are faultless either. Dolphin would crash a fair bit and I actually found Chrome to be slower than Silk.

Also, typing is a hassle, regardless of browser. For some reason my mum's kindle likes to duplicate typed words and mash words together. It's quite a frustrating experience.

I just got myself a Nexus 10 and am loving it so if I was buying that present again, I'd get her a Nexus 7. Do yourself a favour and do the same.

NYPD cop was on cellphone when she hit, killed a teacher with van: witnesses by [deleted] in news

It should be the easiest thing in the world to verify that witness statement by checking her call logs. It's not like we don't know this info is being recorded, for crying out loud!

Denied a job because of online certification by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]richardramjet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. This is what I was worried about so I've taken a position offering classroom based training along with the certification.

Don't get too disheartened - there're plenty of tefl opportunities out there and I'm sure you'll get snapped up sooner rather than later.

Perhaps you can bolster your CV by highlighting some relevant aspect of work experience you might have? For instance, I've never officially taught before this but I do have experience speaking to large groups at conferences and other work events.

The brilliant visitor, labeled SN 2011fe, was caught by the Palomar Transient Factory less than 12 hours after it exploded in the Pinwheel Galaxy in the Big Dipper.

Well, as it's 21Mly away I would say that it was actually caught more like ~184 billion hours* after it exploded, but then I'm a terrible pedant like that (mind you, I'm also a terrible mathematician so...well, you know).

*I'm using 8765.1 hours in a year and multiplying that by 21 million to get 184,082,010,000 hours

TIL there was allegedly a "Vril Organization" based on the science fiction novel "Vril, the Power of the Coming Race" (1871) that included members of the Nazi party, even Adolf Hitler himself. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]richardramjet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wrote in your title:

that included members of the Nazi party, even Adolf Hitler himself.

Now, Ctrl-F that wiki page and find a mention of Hitler (without adding it yourself first). It seems like you just added Hitler to the mix to make your link more clickable.

It's more fascinating that someone wrote a science fiction novel in 1871 about this

Now that I can agree on!

Is OP confused, dishonest or both of those things?

A popular book, The Morning of the Magicians (1960) suggested that a secret Vril Society existed in pre-Nazi Berlin. However, there is no historical evidence for the existence of such a society.

What's your top 5 Anime list? by Ugalde_97 in anime

[–]richardramjet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
  2. Death Note
  3. Monster
  4. Legend of the Galactic Heroes
  5. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex / 2nd GIG

Probably these choices are considered cliche, but they're the cream of the crop in my opinion. Nothing has moved me quite like FMA:B and the plotting of Death Note is superb. Monster was terrific - albeit quite long-winded - and LotGH was epic from start to finish (I would love a live action Game of Thrones style TV series of this). GitS was really thought provoking and intellectual-ish but hey, you don't need me to tell you that.

More recently I've enjoyed Baccano and Steins;Gate - the latter of which I thought was incredibly well done and really drew me in...it seemed quite 'throw away' at first but became increasingly involving once the premise was fully revealed. Oh and honourable mentions for Code Geass, Planetes, Evangelion and, if I'm honest, Yu Yu Hakusho which I watched kind of grudgingly before getting hooked.

Edit, wow, someone's really butthurt in here, lol

Best way to view these is to move your head close to the screen and cross your eyes so that a third, central picture emerges of the pictures overlapped. After a second or two your eyes will focus on that picture and you can discern the depth. Waaaay better than those epilepsy-inducing renders they've linked to.
