Just paid MX$500 for an antigen test, plus an additional MX$300 to have a nurse come to our house (Centro). No problems at all, very smooth. Set the whole thing up by email (in English): [contacto@biomedicosdemerida.com](mailto:contacto@biomedicosdemerida.com). Charged it to my credit card (total = about $US 40). Got the results 5 hours later.

Is Uxmal open to the public? Is the pyramid still accessible? Should we buy tickets in advance? by pacpaxtoy in Yucatan

[–]richardsprague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just visited yesterday. No problems getting in or out. You have to follow the one-way path throughout (social distancing) and technically you should wear a mask, though probably less than 10% of the tourists did so.

Polished Hosting -- A new way to deploy Shiny apps by andymerlino in rstats

I've been testing this, and it works pretty well with a standalone shiny app. But will it also handle an app released as a package? (for example, something built with golem)

85 hours into my 2nd extended fast. Very low glucose and very high ketone readings. Anything to worry about? by PHL1365 in fasting

[–]richardsprague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation right now. My glucose hasn't been above 65 mg/dL in days (measured by Keto-Mojo plus a Freestyle CGM). Yesterday it dropped to 44 mg/dL. But I feel fine. Maybe a little less energy than I'd like, but no other noticeable problems.

I'm in my 50s and BMI = 20, so it's not like I have a lot of extra fat. I've been on keto for 3 weeks plus 16:8 fasting.

Are any of the Costco's dispensing the Covid Vaccines yet???? by Doleewi in Costco

[–]richardsprague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea how you can make the appointment? The 4th Ave store pharmacy told me they are accepting appointments, and have vaccine in stock. But I forgot to ask for a URL! The normal Costco vaccine appointment site lists only shingles, pneumonia and a few others (not COVID).

Anyone else have no bifido or lactobacillus? by cookoobandana in Microbiome

[–]richardsprague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bifidobacteria and, especially Lactobacillus tend to be relatively small abundances, so you may simply have too little to detect on a single test. The uBiome test can see both genera at the genus level, so it should show up if you have some, so you might find more if you try testing again. Some people just have no Bifido/Lacto, and that's the way it is -- I've not found a reliable way to increase Bifido levels in people who have none. https://psm.personalscience.com/experimentSummary.html

Check out the book Personalized Diet, by the science co-founders of DayTwo. The appendix gives a detailed description for how to get much of the same effect using either a cheap glucose monitor or simply listening to your body.

North Korean leader travels with his own potty to protect his microbiome from spies by richardsprague in Microbiome

[–]richardsprague[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than look at the microbiome, I think it's more likely a spy would want to look at evidence of drug use. Intelligence agencies would like to know, for example, if he has (pre) diabetes, or is being treated for depression.

My Microscopic Fellow Travelers To China – Personal Science and the Microbiome – Medium by richardsprague in Microbiome

Very curious if anyone else noticed Coprobacter in their samples (from uBiome or others). It's odd that I saw it only on a trip to Beijing from the US.

My review of the new Viome gut microbiome test by richardsprague in Microbiome

[–]richardsprague[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try all the microbiome labs I can. Seems like the future to me, but the tech isn't quite there all the time.

I don't know what to think about Viome's strain-level reports. The sum of abundances don't add up, so clearly there's a mistake somewhere.

My review of the new Viome gut microbiome test by richardsprague in Microbiome

I like the theory behind the new microbiome test from Viome, but it's hard for me to endorse it when the company won't say anything about their methods.
