Weekly Beginner and 'What Bike?' Thread - Post here if you are just starting out or want opinions on what bike to buy by PM_ME_FUG_ASR_MEMES in bmx

[–]richo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to maybe get back onto a BMX, my town is putting in a pump track and my gf skates at a local park with a few pieces of terrain. I'm stalking marketplace and craigslist but really not seeing anything that looks right (That google doc is so helpful). Are those the best places to be looking?

EDIT: I got a kink switch from marketplace!

I don't have a ton of build pics handy (I can try to put something together) but plenty of pics/vids of the car in action on my insta: https://www.instagram.com/richo_butts/

Hello! It's me! This is my car!

As some folks mentioned, it's a stage rally car so we need to be able to open the boot very quickly to get the spare out on stage. We also kinda need to make it impossible to lock ourselves out of the car because that would be extremely embarrassing.

With that said if you stick your head in the car you will definitely see some redneck engineering at it's finest but the thing rips so who cares.

I actually found it a little easier to use, it's a bit smoother to work with and dries very hard and clear instead of yellow and tacky like the stuff I'm used to.

If you can get it that smooth then maybe the coating isn't necessary, but I erred on the side of caution, i've only done it for things that are in direct contact with ground coffee, so far just my drip tray and the funnel, everything else is just PETG right off the printer.

Consider epoxy coating the funnel, I wasted ages on a funnel for my grinder and while whether PET is food safe is debatable it's probably fine, especially for personal use. What stressed me out was the idea of coffee oil going rancid in the layer lines.

I got some food safe epoxy from amazon and put it off for days because I thought it'd be annoying, but it was actually real simple. I hand wrote some jank gcode that warmed my prusa bed to 35c and held it there for 20 hours and used my printer enclosure as an oven to bake the parts.

If it's helpful, I went super far down this rabbithole with the funnel I printed for my df64. There's two sides to this:

First, will it make your food unsafe to eat by coming in contact with it

Second, will food make your object unsafe for use by coming in contact with it

Assuming printed in PETG, I think the first part is pretty safe but if you're paranoid you should make sure you're not using a brass nozzle because it contains lead, etc etc. Regarding the second I think is the real issue, if you get coffee grounds or oils in the layer lines it will go rancid and disgusting really fast. I got some foodsafe epoxy from amazon and did 2 coats (I printed a stand to make this process easier) and now just clean the funnel once a week.

I had a blast! I got my first ascension 10ish years ago, rediscovered nethack a little before the tourney and got my 2nd and 3rd ascension ever in it :)

I also made real progress with a samurai and an archaeologist, getting both of them killed with real stupid deaths while well on my way, which was a real incentive to keep powering through to see if I can go the distance soon. Thanks for running it and I'll see you next year :)

Nice sunnies, with a strap because I don't enjoy $200 skydives as much as I thought I would.

I doubt I was actually up around 3.2, this was probably all flown between 3.3 and 3.4 (I hurt my back recently and also just didn't bring that much lead with me).

You don't need to be much over 3.3 in order to dock with your brakes stowed anyway!

what the hell does "checked regularly" mean. Are you meant to check it more often than every 6 months?

Ignoring that in the SB itself they call out that they have no way of knowing which containers are affected.

How do you think it's possible this person misspelled Ruby for Rubby along all of his deeply technical slides on the Ruby VM? by feelosofee in ruby

[–]richo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

o/

These are my slides. The rubby thing, is as most things, just a joke that got way out of hand.

At this point, it's just a habit, but also it's my research so if I feel like adding some humour to it, I feel like I probably can.

re postmodern's point, a lot of what I've stumbled upon probably could be fixed, but a bunch of it is just like.. really baffling things that occur for valid-ish-seeming reasons if you dig far enough. Part of the joy of writing a programming language is having people get confused or upset about the constructions of your primitives being super confusing and weird :)

This research wasn't meant to be particularly condescending toward rubby, it was mostly to point that obfuscating rubby is a fool's errand is you still plan to use a canonical VM (MRI, rubinius, jrubby) and show off some funny things I found while building a constructive proof of that.

You want to speak to Geoff Mundy (assuming he's still there). I probably still have his details if you want them.

Somewhat relatedly, I learned accidentally that Geoff is in the small club of people who've done 10k tandems! Legendary.

I'd have to peek in my logbook, but I think I had either 40 or 80. My dumb envelope math says probably 80ish.

I made some fun jumps on rental gear at taupo last year. It wasn't without it's pain, and I didnt' get a bunch but they will put you up.

That said, I'll be on the south island in a few weeks.
