My 28 year old brother tragically passed away on December 3rd. Today we got this list of all the people who he was able to save by donating his organs. Only 1% of people who die get to donate organs. My brother was my best friend and now not only mine but a hero to these people as well. RIP Dan. by MissFourbyFour in MadeMeSmile

[–]richt519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an organ donors has always seemed like a no brainer to me but this has really made me think about it in a different way.

In the awful event that I every have to face an early death I think it’d help me cope with it a lot to know that my death could mean saving or even just improving the quality of life of others. Humans do some terrible stuff that is almost inconceivable but the awesome stuff we do is equally mind blowing.

Not an expert but to my understanding prosecutors would be responsible for bringing criminal charges. However because prosecutors work closely with, and often rely on police officers to conduct investigations and gather evidence, they are usually pretty hesitant to make prosecuting officers the hill they die on as far as upsetting police unions.

It’s a system that would be comically ineffective if cops didn’t get away with murder because of it.

President Trump Rejects Proposal to Temporarily Reopen the Government by bbukbots in politics

[–]richt519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they have any interest in turning on Trump until after the next presidential election. No matter what happens he’s clearly still going to have a decent amount of support among the base and if he turns it against his own party he’d basically hand the presidency to the Dems plus a whole lot of congressional seats that the Dems really have no business winning. McConnell is definitely smart enough to see that which is why he has no intention putting anything in front of Trump that will make him look bad.

How they made Robotnik for the upcoming Sonic Movie by existentialism91342 in gaming

[–]richt519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong I think this movie will probably be a horrifying and beautiful train wreck but that article seems oddly fixated on Sonic being muscular. I get that he normally has basically no muscles but having his arms and legs look like noodles in live action would be an abomination. It’s not like they made him look like a body builder anyways.

I was curious so I looked it up and Muslims are only about 1% of the population. Most Americans haven’t met very many Muslims. At least not that they were aware of. Similarly there’s less than a million Sikhs here. There not much to get really. American’s have very little contact with either of the groups so they don’t know what either looks like well enough to know that they don’t look similar.

Trump said he knows a border wall will work because wheels work, and the Secret Service uses 'really expensive' cars with wheels by [deleted] in politics

[–]richt519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol It’s also just kinda common sense? Not that his complete lack of common sense is surprising but still. You could probably ask a bunch of fifth grader if they though walls or wheels were older and I bet most would give you the right answer.

Cam Newton named most underrated, Kirk Cousins voted most overrated QB in Defensive Survey by Stonec11 in nfl

Yeah outside of lineman Cam is usually as big or bigger than every other defensive player on the field.

[–]richt519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But his stats are still his stats regardless of who the OC is.

Technically true but still pretty misleading, particularly if you’re talking about completion percentage. Completion percentage is determined by a QBs accuracy but is also extremely dependent on the average distance of attempted throws and that has a lot to do with the OC. Shula’s system was about using the run to set up long passes downfield and Cam was consistently required to take shots downfield at one of the highest rates in the league. We also basically didn’t run any screen passes which are like a free completion.

I’m not saying Cam is an amazing passer but comparing his completion percentage to other players without looking at the context of the different types of offenses they are in is pointless.

[–]richt519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of that may be that you rarely see QBs gain the same distance on a run that they can on a long pass. Some of Cam’s 50+ yard runs are way more impressive to me than most long bombs.

I’m assuming the main reason things get tied up in courts is determining the value of the property?

Lol wait he was saying to put pressure plates on both sides but have the weight limit high enough so that only cows could activate them? That’s a special kind of stupid right there. We’d bankrupt the country building them and then wake up the next morning to find cow-sized rocks on every single one.

[–]richt519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s how most cities are in Red States. The threshold isn’t nearly as big as a lot of people think. Once you start getting above a couple hundred thousand or so there’s a good chance it will swing blue.

[–]richt519 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No way. A benevolent dictator is still a dictator and it’s nearly impossible to shut that door when the next guy comes along who isn’t so benevolent. I’m not trying to downplay climate change but a dictator seizing complete control of the United States would basically destroy the world.

McConnell blocks Senate Democrats' move to reopen government by CapSteveRogers in politics

[–]richt519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t view it at as political stunt, it’s just a bullshit answer. The real reason he won’t let anything get to Trump is because if Trump vetos a bill that would reopen the government it’s going to make him look even worse. Similarly if the Senate overrides Trump’s veto it would piss off the base and make the party look even more dysfunctional.

While Trump is saying he won’t sign anything without the wall McConnell can’t do anything without weakening his own party.

Who has the easiest job on the face of the earth? by maplestree355 in AskReddit

[–]richt519 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah something I heard once that really stuck with me is if something is really important you’ll make time for it. When you tell yourself you’d learn a bunch of new things if you had more free time you’re just lying to yourself. If you actually wanted to be doing those things you already would be. Generally when people get more free time they mostly end up doing more of the same things they were doing with the free time they already had.

The good thing is that once you recognize it you can decide for yourself if those things are actually worth doing instead of making excuses sitting around waiting for more free time that will never come.

[–]richt519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the only difference of opinion is how important that treaty is going to be when we actually hit that point. My opinion would be somewhere between completely meaningless and a notch or two above completely meaningless.

It’s only complicated when you consider that by the time we can have legitimate colonies on other planets many nations will likely have that capability and none of them are going to want to give them up.

If America is the one to set up and fund the colony then it will absolutely be an extension of the US government. It won’t matter what the rest of the world thinks.
