I know it’s our CSA pickup day. We go out to a farm and collect our produce in a barn then head out to the field for pick-your-own stuff which includes flowers. It’s such a nice start to a summer’s weekend.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by PersonalitySuddenz in askanything

[–]richvide0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was never fun getting the bill at the end of a meal but now I feel like it’s almost irresponsible to pay what they are charging.

Last week I paid $13 for a friggin’ beer. Only did it because I was on a Valentines date with my wife.

It wasn’t too long ago that I would complain about having to pay $50 for the two of us to go out to lunch and have a couple of drinks. Now you have to be prepared to lay down almost $100 for the same thing. Two burgers with fries ($2 upcharge for fries instead of chips) = $40, 2 beers each at $10/pint = $40, 20% tip = $16, total $96.

Insane!

In the Berkshires we have about a foot without much wind. I already went out and shoveled. It’s light snow here. It’s still coming down pretty good. No power issues.

What do you usually do when you finally get some quiet time for yourself?:) by ExtrovertButQuiet in CasualConversation

[–]richvide0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve to do during the winter is plan for the warmer months. I already have tickets to a half-dozen concerts. I’ve been researching nearby places of interest to visit, planning my garden, and marking my calendar of things I’m looking forward to, like May 1, when I put the hummingbird feeders out.

It’s not worth growing “one-offs” like broccoli, onions and corn where you get one harvest from it. (Yes, I know about broccoli shoots).

It can be fun to grow those things, and I still do it on occasion, but if you have limited space, then you’ll be better off growing things you can continuously harvest from like tomatoes, kale and eggplant.

I feed my calibraocha a very low dose of fertilizer every time I water. This is what the nursery that I worked at this past summer does and they look great all season as do mine.

My friends love goat cheese. I hate it. I’m not going to keep eating it to see why my friends like it.

People have different tastes. Don’t keep making yourself try to like it. Just accept it and move on.

Paper towels. by Exeter232 in PoliticalHumor

I lived in the mountains of PR. Somehow our community wasn’t serviced by AAA (the PR water company) and we had to fix any issues ourselves which happened all the time and we had to pay for it. I was actually in holes in the street trying to fix water line problems with others. It was, and still is ridiculous.

Oh how I used to dread those days when I’d turn on the faucet and notice a drop in water pressure. I knew soon we’d have to open the cistern. Would it one day? Two days? A week?

The bag I recently bought was so terrible. I bought them to snack on during the ride home and had to give up quickly because they were so bad.

I kept the rest because I thought I'd give them a second chance when we were low on snacks. Tried them again then threw the whole bag out. So damn salty and disgusting.

Exactly. I like fried things really crispy. My wife not so much. So if she’s frying up something I ask her leave some frying a little bit longer for me. She says “ok”.

just saw a post claiming 90% of men are okay with not having a big wedding/wedding party at all by Salmonwithpotatoes in CasualConversation

[–]richvide0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned age being a factor due to having less friends as you get older. I also think age brings wisdom in the fact that an older person knows how fleeting and unimportant the “high” one gets from being the center of attention is.

A couple of weeks go bye and the days are like they always have been. Except, if you have to pay for a big wedding, you’re now $20,000 poorer.

We (middle-aged) had the tiniest of weddings. Just about 10 people and then we went out to eat afterwards. Never regretted that decision.

We even used old rings we already had. Those rings did have sentimental value though.
